So chatting with someone today, he told me that he had invested some ISK into a trader named Wieting Foyu. His bio reads as such:
------------------------------------------------- Just a humble trader trying to make an honest ISK in the universe, Of course there is more money to be made in the "not-so-honest" ways. If you need something delivered anything at all, just call and I will be Wieting Foyu. Check the link for services and pricing. Or if you are looking for that hard to find item I can find and get anything let me know what it is I will give you the quote on how much it will take for me to get it for ya. Or if you are too busy fighting pirates or mining and just want to invest, I know the best trade routes with the greatest Return On Investment. Remeber to contact me first before sending ISk, as RL might get in the way and I may have to turn you down for a couple days.
Invest in 24 hours = 15% Return On Investment Invest in 7 Days = 50% ROI Long term investments avail upon request.
http://www.aztecatransportationunlimited.com/index.htm ----------------------------------------------------
Now, my first thought was this: He's in Azteca Transportation Unlimited. The name sounded familiar, and I did a quick check. Fenian, one of the wealthiest and probably more successful scammers in Eve is in Aztec Industries. Vegeta and Paddyman (at least two other of Fenian's alts) are both in Omnicient Order; no relation to Weiting Foyu.
The corp similarities alarm me. As does the investment opportunity; it sounds like the pyramid / whatever schemes that an old trader whose name slips my mind got famous for and wrote a big blog about.
Now, I'm not casting judgement on Weiting Foyu; I'm just putting out whatever I know and think.
It wouldn't serve any purpose for me to invest 100m into it to see if its a scam; that's sort of pointless from my perspective. I haven't been able to get him to answer a convo request to find out exactly how he'd plan on making 50% return in a week. But by and large, I'm skeptical, wishing I could be hopeful.
What do you guys think?

He is at least a trader. From talking to him in the poker room, he knows more about trading than somebody might know from just reading this forum. I don't know exactly how he earns his money, but I seem to remember (perhaps erroniously) that some comes from full-region buy orders.
When I first saw his rates I was immediately suspicious, but I have never spoken to him about it. The most striking thing is the gigantic ROI. Most "risky" IPOs and bonds in this forum offer rates of up to 15% and rarely 20% per MONTH, and it is only that high to offset the risk of investing in a person who has been partially, but not fully vetted here.
The second, less obvious feature about his investment scheme that I noticed is the complete lack of maximum investable ISK. i.e., there is no magic way in EVE to invest an unlimited amount of money. The ways of investing 1bil ISK do NOT scale up to 100bil. Perhaps he tells people in a convo not to if they are trying to invest to much, but lacking this, and in combination with insane rates, I simply cannot trust an investment in this person. It does not seem believable to me. I am certainly not an "expert", so hopefully some others will be along shortly to post in addition to Shadarle above.
As for his character, he comes off as a little rude. He took offense to my all-in style for the day or two that I was going crazy with it, which is perfectly fine. However, with the way he carries himself in channel with the other members and how he now decides to act towards me, I am less inclined to invest than before, and I already had enough above to make up my mind.

Are you thinking of Morbor? I invested 3mil in him (more than half my ISK at the time when it was relatively hard for me to come by), with expectations of receiving much, much more back. When he posted on the forums about the "sudden loss of his financial backer", I couldn't believe it and convoed him amidst all the other dozens of people also trying to get their ISK back. The scammer took pity on me and sent me my hard-earned cash back with only a minimal amount of whining required from me. :)
Even for the early days of EVE, he pulled off an INCREDIBLY slick operation. I'm still impressed with it today (but not enough to emulate :P).

Eh, he does the same thing in every thread that I write.
He entered by Battleship event; brought a dominix + smartbombs. Killed his own drones. Then lost. Tried to blackmail me for 1 billion, then 3 billion then 8 billion ISK or he would "Unleash the power of the decepticons" on me. Really.
Apparently, that power would be his forum flaming. *shrugs* To each their own.

Curzon of all the good investment opportunities, you choose what looks like pyramid scheme instead as a potential investment. Look around these forums, there are far better alternatives. Sure they may not pay quite as much (because they are usually legit) but a 10-15% per month return is a little better than nothing.

I've been looking around these forums and I don't really see any investment opportunities. :(
Just a bunch of "Well, here's a statement" or "here's a report" or "You can now deposit up to 250m ISK and earn 2% interest on it!"
Oh wait, that's you. =p

I wasn't talking about myself. EBANK isn't considered an investment opportunity and doesn't try to be. If you want high returns with limited access to your isk over time you go to one of the many IPO's and bond offerings out there. If you want access to your isk, the ability to monitor precisely what you have available, and basically just somewhere to put idle isk to generate a few extra bucks, that's what EBANK is for.
But again, I didn't post with my EBANK char as it wasn't related to EBANK in the slightest. Sorry if you don't know the difference.

Dude, if you or anyone fell for that, that is just sad.
The real interesting question is how much isk do you think he has scammed already? Makes me think about making an alt just for scamming, lots of good scams out there other than the basic pyramid scheme.

Ok first of all this Fenian isnt in ATU anymore ( kicked out for scaming ) and secound Foyu isnt a scammer, he wouldnt be in ATU if he was. He is honest and he dose repay you with the intrest on it. the only reason he dosnt tell you how he gets his money is becuase he wants you to need him cuz he makes cash out of it too. Foyu is trusting and ATU dosnt execept scamers so dont think he is one

While i might not be the most reliable of sources (since i'm in ATU myself), but i can attest to Wietings honesty when it comes to investing. i invested 100m ISK in him for his 7 day plan, and he had the money a day early.
ATU has as far as i am aware no connections to Aztec Industries and we pride ourselves as a corp on the reliability of what we do. (we transport goods mainly) Had Wieting been scamming he would have been out of the corp faster than you could say "Pyramid Scheme."

I know Wieting, and I invested in him already a few times and never got disappointed so far. He always paid the agreed amount punctually on the agreed day without even having to remind him or something like that.
I never heard anything bad about him and I know also other people who invested in him and are very, very satisfied.
From my side, I sincerely can only recommend investing in him.

Scam or not nice of you to post this and defame my character BEFORE asking. But oh well the ones that have invested are happy and they will continue. Kicking me out of poker just means you won't make any profit off my profit. I am not going to make an alt or take off my bio just for your poker channel. As I told you in private I don't make alts I have one character and that is all I plan on using. Any more would take the fun out of the game (at least for me) Just because I have been here for only a couple months doesn't mean anything. I only know trading. I don't mine and if I was in a pvp I would be the first to pop. The main reason I am on eve is the realism in the market to real life. All based on players supply and demand. Just because someone can't offer the same return doesn't mean its a scam. that just means they want to be greedy and keep more profit for themselves.

To the last three posters:
I'm not sure how what you wrote has anything to do with anything. You invested a piddly amount of ISK into someone, and they returned it with the promised interest. Every ponzi scheme starts from the ground and works its way upward. First, you have to get the people to trust you with small amounts of ISK, then you have to get people to invest larger and larger amounts, etc. until you reach a threshold where its worth cashing out.
From the chat earlier that I posted above, that appears to be 20 billion. =p
In my OP, I noted that its pointless to invest 100m into something like this - its meaningless. Exactly for that reason. 100m is wasted time on my part, and Wieting Foyu isn't interested in cleaning up your chump change.
Then again - he could be honest, and that discussion could have been a VERY BADLY TIMED JOKE.
I really don't know.

Curson, in fact, anything has to do with anything since you asked what ppl think about WF and that's what ppl told you.
However, if you should want a guarantee for getting your ROI, of course, noone can give you that.
Of course, there is risk. Of course, he might take the ISK and run. Of course, I can't look into his mind to ensure he has only good intentions.
Sure, if I don't get my investment back, I won't be very pleased, but hence I only invest what I can afford to lose. Anything else would be dumb,of course.
So far, as said, I didn't make any negative experience, being aware that that MIGHT change in future - of course.
So at the end of the day it's nothing but taking this risk or leave it.
Anyways, whatever you do in EVE, there's risk attached to, guess I don't need to tell you.
And: even if you'd invest 20 Bil or just "meaningless" 100 mil into someone in RL, do you think you can REALLY be 100% sure to see them again?
Don't think so...
@Ezoran: yes, of course
