Many of the people that regularly log on Sisi may have noticed frequent questions like:
"Is the overview bugged? I can‘t resize it!" "Why are locked targets under the overview?" "Why do all info windows use the same window?" "Why can‘t I move all the overview windows together?"
This post is an effort to bring everyone up to speed on the new UI features and provide feedback to the designers.
Shift is your friend The shift button works wonders in the new UI, you can shift+drag, shift+click or even drag, hold then hit shift to snap the windows into the same formation. Shift+click on the pin/unpin makes all the windows in that stack be affected by that one click, shift+drag on the border of an unpinned or unlocked stack of windows does the same. Shift+drag or drag, hold+shift can be used to move stacks of windows together or move one and then snap all the other ones into place in the same spots an they were before in relation to the one that was moved.
CTRL isn‘t bad either If you only want to modify the windows grouped below the one you are resizing or moving you can use CTRL in the same way as SHIFT. All windows below the one you are modifying will be affected instead of the whole stack. If you lose a window outside your screen area you should be able to bring it back using CTRL+TAB to select it, it will then pop back into view. If that doesn‘t work then there is always the „Reset to default window positions“ in the ESC menu.
When in doubt, right click There are new options for some windows in the new UI, some of them are for the new Eve Voice fleet integration and some are for the new drone settings. The most important one is undoubtedly the new target lineup icon which can be right clicked to lock it in place and to choose how many targets you want in each line, I engourage everyone to try this out. The little target lineup icon can be found right next to your first locked target.
Remembering the good things All window positions and settings are now saved through relog and session changes, even switching between resolutions on the fly should never result in unexpected window positions. In the previous version of the UI TAB would refresh the overview by minimizing it, in the new UI the TAB key minimizes all open windows (not modal windows) and maximizes them again unless one of them has changed states in between. This allows you to quickly switch between different view modes, minimize everything, double click select windows that you want to keep an eye on.
If at first you don‘t succed... If the option you are looking for is not available through right clicking then try the General Settings menu. Some options previously available there have been moved to right clicking and some have been moved to there, an example is „show time stamp in chat“ which is now a right click option while „lock windows when pinned“ is in the Esc menu. If something unexpected happens you can always reset your windows to their default settings through the „Reset settings“ tab there as well.
Feel free to post your own ideas and thoughts on the new UI, I‘ll be reading this thread every day to keep everyone up to date on whatever changes that are made.

All I really care about UI-wise: Is there now a button to reload all weapons with the selected ammo in one action?
There is no 'n' in turret There is no 'r' in faction There is no 'a' in Scorpion There is no 'e' in Caldari There is no makeup in rogue drones |

So CCP... How about you just release the improvements and new content this patch and forget all the horrid nerfs? We would all love you and Eve would be a place full of joy and ganking.

Making the UI more customizable: win. Good job, guys.
(and yeah, that "reload all weapons with ammo <X>" would be a very nice addition :)

Edited by: Imhothar Xarodit on 02/11/2007 17:33:50 Very nice work so far, and I have 1 additional proposal or call it wish:
If CTRL-cliking the "pin" button on a window, its position gets locked without going transparent. It is cool that there is a dark background now (especially on chat) but the option to have it locked without going transparent would be handy (individually by window, ot a global option for all)
Pretty please?

If you stack 2 containers together, then pin them and close them the next time you open either of them the stack is not pinned anymore. Please fix that. Apart from that I'm loving the new UI.

One more slightly off topic UI request:
The thing that got added to the skill display in the character window, where it closes the other drop down sections and only leaves the section you're looking at open, that's awesome.
Can we add it to the market also?
And, importantly, make it an option, so that people don't have to have it that way if they don't want.
I'm gonna sneak in another one here, too. It would be really, really nice if there was a "synch to contents" type option on the market, so that when I right click an item in a hangar or something, and "view market details", I can then click "synch to market contents" on the market window and have it open up the category and sub-categories of the item I'm viewing the details on (if I'm viewing the details of a Vagabond, clicking "synch" sets the left hand window to have "Ships/HACs/Minmatar" open for me.

New hud is awesome. Only one thing; up until now ctrl tab has removed all gaming related stuff from the screen and only left us with the beautiful galaxy to look at. Perfect for video-makers. Will there be a new button for this?

well, i've just checked it out, the option is still there. You can Ctrl+Tab, or, alternatively, use Ctrl+F9 to hide/show hud

i love the new ui, good work! Although I havnt submitted the bugs I have found the only annoying one is the one that when you paste a link or anything from clipboard, you have to type something for it to show up. (i usually just hit spacebar but don't think of this as a "hotfix")

have played a bit with the new ui but need to play a bit more before comments, looks like some good changes though.
on-screen targeting of drones one thing i've noticed is that on-screen targeting of drones has gotten harder. sometimes not being targetable at all, even when they are stationary. it's as if the target activation area of the drones has been decreased.

Same applies to tracking disrupted and jammed.
One 'little' thing I would really love to see is the bottom half of a module's outer ring being used as an activation timer.
Some modules have activation times of up to 10 minutes (siege/triage/cyno gen), so having the bottom half go red at the start of the cycle and slowly turn green (just like a damage indicator) would be a nice addition. Maybe even a popup if you move your move over it to show the exact time remaining.
BTW, the session timer popup doesn't automatically update unless you move your mouse about on top of it. -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V2 http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

How can I move windows outside the game windows?
Ex:want to move my cargo window so it's half inside the game window and outside the game window?
picture: Linkage
half my cargo window is outside the game window. It is not possible to do in sisi atm.

I agree that a module activation timer would be nice. But I'd rather have it as a clock like timer, with a color not used before, like orange, yellow, blue etc.

new UI is much better than the old one!
CTRL is ur friend? yes ... but not allways :) if u could use shift and ctrl to select multiple objects on the overview/in_space and then tag(fleet option) more than one at once would make this feature much more useable (at least for me) A shortcut for ur most used tag-letter/number would also be cool.
ctrl-doubleclick problem: if u use ctrl- leftclick to lock a target, miss it with ur crsor and click again too fast, ur ship will start moving this direction -> please disable doubleclick-navigation when holding down ctrl.
Solarsystem map : !! A rightclick option to focus ur camera on an object would be great. Now(on sisi & tq) ur camera focuses only when u r in space, and then only when u (left)click a belt. (if u click a planet, moon or bookmark nothing happens) And please remove the camera distance reset on focus change.
Reduce the need of 3rd party-tools: -> more power to the map better tactical overlay on solarsystem map: it is 2d but space isnt. a tool to draw spheres, like the weapon-range-spheres, but with custom radius, and from a custom object, would be a huge help for planning probe-deployment and other things.
Star Map: The custom spheres (see above) would also be very cool here for capital jump planning. only the distance from systems to ur curernt location can be displayed and only via capital navigation window -> please make right-click (or any other option) to meashure distances.
When docked, colours of solar systems r not as bright as they r when activating the map in space ... intended or bug?
Overview: Symbols for player-frigs, cruisers, battleships look nearly the same. maybe new symbols would be useful, or customizeable highlighting of objects that machtes a customizeable filter.
On sisi my <star map | solarsystem map | close>-window was moveable, but with the latest patch it isnt. .... intended or bug?
Station: u can select: "merge items AND ships into station panel" maybe 2 seperate checkboxes for ships and items would be better.
sorry for my english ;-)

As I'm currently unable to log into SiSi to see this proposed new UI, I wish to pose the following questions:
Can preferences for chat windows be set globally? For example in chat windows I have the smallest text size, no thumbnails, no player list. All I want to see is text. Every time a private chat opens up, I need to adjust that window to fit my preferences. Preferences need global settings.
Can preferences for cans/wrecks be set globally? When opening a can, it defaults to the thumbnail display. I do not need to see the picture to know what item is present. I prefer the 'list' view with just text. I set it for a can, and the very next can goes right back to the thumbnail view. Annoying as hell.
Can log text be truncated to varying preferences? I do not need to see the timestamp for every hit, nor do I need to see the excessively verbose descriptions on how my 425mm Prototype Gauss Gun lightly scratched a Gist War General. That is TOO LONG. All I need to see is "I hit a Gist War General for X damage." Speaking of combat damage, why does the default display sort by time descending when the window won't autoscroll to keep the pertinent information in the window? You have to manually change the sort every time. Ridiculous.

Funny thing: Open your ship's cargo and glue it to the top of the default local channel position. Next, open your items. glue that one to the right of your two windows and resize that one to the whole height of both the chat and the cargo... Now, close items, close cargo. Next, undock.
Okay, so far so easy, now comes the part where the new UI is just inferior to the TQ one: Dock again, open your ship's cargo open items. The Items window now has the correct width, but something is wrong with the height. It's either glued to the chat or to the cargo and has the height of the window it was glued to. The height you originally had is all forgotten.
Repair that, please... -- The future begins now - in EVE we live it, in real life we create it!

I haven't seen the new UI stuff on SISI with my own eyes, but I have to comment that not being able to drag windows partially off screen is going to suck a lot.
I rarely say anything in LOCAL, and even rarer want to see what others are saying, so I drag it half way off screen so I only see the names and color icon (friend or foe). this saves me a lot of space as the text area and names only get so small in width as is.
Please restore the ability to move windows and interface panels beyond the borders of the visible screen.
Thanks.

Edited by: Sky Marshal on 06/11/2007 19:01:20 Personaly, I would appreciate a way to make modules on top of the overview like it is on TQ, because the overview make them unusable if they are behind and I dislike use keyboard shortcuts or reduce overview size (not practical in fight).
Hopefully I am a shield tanker so I have enough space to move hidden buttons to a better place.
