Originally by: Saya Hime Actually Shattered Crystal, Trust Who and Markee Dragon all belong to the same guy. It costs nothing to him. He probably even makes money from this. As he makes money from selling accounts and items from several MMORPG for real money, which is strictly forbidden by most of those games publishers. Talk about a total swindler...
Take a look at his 'partners'. That's a bloody list of gold sellers isn't it? Check by yourself some of them resells isks and eve items.
So from one side he's a ccp trusted GTC dealer, and from the other side he encourages and promotes isk selling. What's CCP position towards this? Others GTC sellers seem to respect the eula and laws. Should Markee dragon stay on your official list?
OK now we're getting to the meat of things.
Here in happy happy EVE la la land you all may believe that ISK for GTC's isn't RMT, isn't ISK selling because "no new ISK is created, CCP get their slice from it, so it's OK" but as you can see from this the links between GTC's and "illegal" (I use the word as it relates to EVE EULA & T&C's, hence the quotes) ISK selling go deep.
The fact is that game time is a real world commodity, i.e. worth real currency, and paying for it with ISK facilitates RMT, i.e. the ISK-selling, ISK-farming, macro-using, sweat-shop running that so so so many of you rant and rave about all the time.
I buy GTC's for my accounts, using shatteredcrystal because it's cheaper than paying for EVE directly. You could argue that makes me a hypocrite given my staunch opposition to RMT and now that I know about shatteredcrystal's links to ISK-selling I'll reconsider my source for GTC's. But I don't buy or sell GTC's for ISK.
IMO buying gametime should be CHEAPER if you buy it directly from CCP with real currency. Pretty much anything else is supporting the very activities that most players hate and think is damaging the game.

I buy stuff online specifically to avoid the irritation of having to interact with Real People, getting a phone call about an order would be worse than just going to the store and shoving a wad of paper money in some cashierdrone's face.

I don't care what the justification is, there is no way on earth any intelligent person would send a scan of their photo ID over the internet by email! Plus it proves nothing, photoshop anyone?
Going through Battle clinic, need to allow 24hr with their first order, but hopefully this will go better.

WTF? Turn off EVE now and please turn back into a human being capable of talking to fellow people comfortably, easily, and effectively! (You may return once you've had a conversation with five random people)

Originally by: Loewe I bought my last ones with from the CCP shop itself. This time I thought it'd be better to get it instantly, so since I'd heard good things about ShatteredCrystal, I ordered through them.
I can't say I have anything good to say about Shattered Crystal. I got a phone call 10 mins after I placed the order. This was to ask some security questions. Then they said I'd receive an email, which I assumed would be my timecode, but instead I received one from TrustWho.com saying that they needed ID. A Government ID style and a Utility Bill to prove address. Sent via Email!
On Friday afternoon (UK), like a fool because I really wanted it, I sent them both (a utility statement and my driving license). I spent Friday evening trying to hear from them, chased again on Saturday morning, to be told that only Managers can view the ID's and they aren't in over the weekend. By this time I'm starting to worry and the realisation that I've sent my ID over the interneet which would be an identity theif's wet dream!
So Monday (today) comes around, I waited till 17:00 UK time so the managers would've had time in USA to get into the office. Then I chased them up. To be told:
Originally by: Shattered Crystal
My apologies, I had emailed you about your ID you sent in but you must not have received it. We require some form of photo identification. Unfortunately your driving permit does not have one. If you could send in a government issued Photo ID then we can continue verification.
Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience,
Nathan Emerson Manager
TrustWho LLC www.TrustWho.com USA: (503) 252-1169 Canada: (604) 628-2277 United Kingdom: +0442079934727
Now is it me, or wtf does a company need my photo ID for? It's not like I'm there in person so they can check the picture. I would've thought my UK Driving license (non-picture) would've been enough!
So hence my concerns, what a terrible company to deal with.
Shattered Crystal is awesome. I've made probably a half dozen purchases from them with no problems what-so-ever.
On your very first purchase they call you to verify who you say you are. The ask questions based on the billing address of your card. They ask you things like, "what's your nearest cross street," and, "what is the closest hospital to where you live," etc.
My guess is that your answers were somehow deficient. Perhaps you forgot your nearest cross street, or forgot what neighborhood you live in.
So to continue with your purchase they wanted to be damn sure you were who you say you are by asking for that ID and a utility statement. They might not be able to check the photo, but if you have both a drivers license and a utility bill with a name matching the credit card you tried to use, then its likely that you are who you say you are.
Now, I understand, you just want Shattered Crystal to instantly give you the time codes you've paid for. Fair enough. However, the hoops you are jumping through are for your protection, rather than them being "identity" thieves.
Think things through before you accuse someone of that kind of activity. In reality its slanderous.

I always used Shatteredcrystal since i started playing eve.. (bout a year now i think) never had any problems whatsoever, first time order had the secruity phone call.. then code came 5mins later.. everytime used paypal BTW..
oh and if you don't like getting sercurity questions and asked for more proof then use paypal and not a credit card... its the only reason for the extra ID checks..

Precisely. And the more information about yourself you send over the net to *anyone*, the more you will be at a risk.
They require the ID protect *themselves* because in case of a stolen CC number, they will be the ones who lose money, not you. In doing so, they put you at a risk - now if somehow your data is intercepted or stolen from their servers and used for bad things, guess who will have trouble justifying why he sent all this personal info over the net?

I work in a company that process card transfers. On occasion we ask for utility bills but I've never seen ID asked for. HOWEVER, seeing as the majority of users have no issues with them I wouldn't be concerned by the request as identity theft but more a case of slightly poor customer services that the matter wasn't resolved quickly..

Shattered Crystal is an official ETC retailer, all of which are listed here. But as they are retailers we don't offer support for them, they have their own support.
I've ordered 3 codes from evetimecode.com and each time I'd get an invalid/used code, which suggests that they where probably getting most of their codes the old unsecured method because the people they bought them from where either 1) using the codes they sold, or 2) selling the codes to other people as well.

I can personally vouch for Shattered Crystal: First time I ordered a GTC, I got a phone call, wich was very correct and recieved the GTC after we ended the phone call.
Correct and nice guy!

Edited by: Damon Ra on 06/11/2007 18:31:12 1) Shattered Crystal owns/runs TrustWho.
2) TrustWho is incompetent. They can't even resolve the concept that a business might wish to buy 2-3 GTCs for their employees once per year as holiday gifts (for instance), and will treat any commercial transactions as FRAUD out of hand, even when the payer has a 5+year business PayPal history and had previously purchased GTCs from SC.
3) Anyone who is willing to divulge detailed personal information to an incompetent 3rd party organization over the phone that doesn't even list its street address in a WHOIS lookup, deserves whatever happens to them when their data gets stolen by a competent hacker.
Battleclinic is your friend, and they know how to properly conduct *business* plesantly, professionally, and unobtrusively.

Granted I was never asked for any sort of photo ID, but they did call my phone and ask to verify who I was by identifying local landmarks that only people who live in my area would be able to answer without hesitation.
Ditto I have ised Shattered Crystal and have no Issues Solid Service. I use a Credit/Identity monitoring service to ensure theres no hanky panky going on and I've nver had an issue.

This used to be 100% true, but they are now also part of TrustWho so you have to go through the same verification nonsense, even if you already purchased from them before, before they used TrustWho.

tbh id get in touch with Shatteredcrystal and ask them if they know the other entity. IF they do, its probably clean, if they dont, then get on the horn to credit card companies.
I used the Sinclair-software retailer from the "approved" list before, i had a call from a german guy with bad english, saying will be 24 hours for code. I got billed, but no card.
ShatteredCrystal did call me when i used them, asking for the name of the main road at the end of my road, and the name of the two cul de sacs coming off my road. Its nothing you couldnt pull off google-earth (thats probably what they used) however obviously if the guy thinks your taking you time (looking it up) then he can ask further questions. Not a perfect way by any means, however i can imagine it being pretty effective

Quite right, and I'm no fan of capitalism, but it works out that they are protecting potential consumers as well as themselves by checking for fraud.

shatteredcrystal does not require you to even register to purchase GTC (pay via non-registered paypal method) as long as its one GTC at a time.
shatteredcrystal does require you to register to purchase multiple GTC at once.
Shatteredcrystal tries to make sure of the buyer's identity when selling multiple GTC due to possible financial implications of credit card company reversing transaction as part of identity theft. The method is thorough enough to require a phone call and picture proof, but they can be lenient. The picture proof was waved for someone I know due to assurance of validity. As a matter of fact, shatteredcrystal sent him a card for christmas.
Some reason, I do not believe a company described above would treat someone as you stated. Either you are getting stuck with new employees or do not know how to handle customer service workers well (can imagine scam accusation over the phone to an employee ).

i remember the call i got from shattered crystal purely because it was so funny. I got a call in the middle of the night, from a guy with a strong american accent.
He asked me what state i was in, so i said we dont have states in this country. He asked what my ZIP code was, so i said we dont have those either.
He then skipped all the questions and said "good afternoon sir" and put the phone down. I immediatly got an email with my code, and went back to bed.
odd. but anyhow, they've been great since, so i'm happy.

Mine was similar, it sounded like a very tired American ringing me at 11am UK time, (5am US?) asking what the main road near my house was called, so I said what it was, and he said "no it isn't" I said "I live here, not you" "The name of the road is shorter than that" "How short?" "One Letter and One Numeral" "M1?" "That's it" "Mate, that's 4 miles and a 25 minute drive away, it runs several hundred miles, it is 'Near My House' in the same way that sunshine or trees is" "chuckle" "Do I win a prize?" "I'll send the code" "Cool!" -- Awwwww Diddums! Did I wardec your highsec alt recently or something? |

I hate to break it to you, dude, but we Americans don't have accents. Well, alright, some of us do, but those of us who say... live in California don't. We sound like the people in all the movies sound.
