simple solution:
1) only 1 additional skill may be queued 2) queued skills only start training if account is active
the problem with dual/multiple training is that you could set two 25+ day skills and then deactivate the account - and basically get that extra skill trained for free. so in that case, i would recommend that when the account is not active only the shortest skill would keep training. so is there any reason not to set up to 10 skills to simultaneously train, as long as the account remains active?
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
It gets worse: if we let people buy metal cutlery they could use them to kill children! Soon the human race would be extinct!
</strawman> <--- see how that works? Let skills continue training until they hit level 5. No skill queue as such, and no use to the mythical character farmer as it only increases maximum offline time by 25%. Would that really be so bad?
Please if you dont understand the definition of a term dont use it. It makes you look like an idiot especially when you are attempting to smack someone. A queue system would allow people to progress characters WITHOUT paying CCP. How many people would pay for an alt account if they could train it up for free
Actually he spotted Fairins argument correctly as a strawman. But used a slippery slope argument as an example to counter it. Which was a bit amiss, perhaps.
The point stands though. And you put up another straw man. There is nothing in the suggestion of a skill queue alone that means that people can train without paying.
You would have to go into the specifics of an implementation of it to come to that. And none of the suggestions here have implied that it should be possible to do so without paying.
That CCP allow for that to go on atm, is no real argument against an addition of a queue system, because such a system might very well mean the the removal of that talking place.
So there might be many arguments against a queue system. But that aint one.
I would take a skill queue over any one of the following features: Heat Ambulation a linux client EVE Voice
Originally by: Iton Shebb There is opposition because it's not that hard to plan your skills. There are plenty of third party skill planners and reminder apps that will send you and email or SMS or something when you need to switch skills. Or simply don't plan a skill that will finish seconds after the servers should be back up.
You'll still be able to plan skills. It's not like it hurts you. Why the adversity?
I don't care about downtime specifically. I care about times when I can't log in to change skills. Work, sleep, gym, social time, and downtime are just a few examples. -- Support fixing the EVE UI | Suggest Jita fixes
I'm in full agreement with you there ... coding a skill que is gonna take a 1/2 decent programmer what a week at most (Including testing) ?
How many man hours did heat take to implement I wonder ?
It's wonderful that you two are so self centered. Way to go.
The heat aspect of the game makes play more realistic. The Linux client allows players to stop being tethered to Windows. Ambulation opens up a new dimension of game play that a lot of people want to be able to enjoy. And EVE voice allows for better accessibility for in-game communication.
What would a skill queue do? It would let people be lazy.
And if you really think that it would take one person one week to implement, than you know nothing about game dev.
I'll concede that having an emergency skill for those occasional, unplanned downtimes would be nice (but it shouldn't turn into a skill queue).
I think the official policy should be 5,000 SP per hour -rounded up- that the server is unexpectedly down. Those would go to everyone, even those who were training normally. Why give SP to those that didn't loose any? For one thing eventually everyone gets caught between skills by a server crash and ultimately it all averages out. Plus, this way doesn't involve a ****load of database queries and calculations, it's quick, easy and simple. Most importantly, it takes a ****ty event that ****es everyone off and adds a little something positive to it. The server might have gone down but at least you got a nice chunk of SP out of it.
It's compensation that doesn't hurt CCP's bottom line, doesn't screw with the economy and doesn't take any real effort for the devs or the database. It seems like an easy and elegant way to sweeten server crashes.
I wouldn't mind a skill que in SiSi only but if we get one in TQ too then all the better.
