I had no problems with the eve install, I used the multi-user option. Everything downloaded fine, no hiccups at all. "Eve" and "Eve config" menu items showed up properly on my games menu. However eve doesn't run. Here is the output from my command line:
$ eve Multi-user install... CEDEGA_PATH is /usr/local/games/eve This is the update checker... Running /usr/local/games/eve/.updater/cedega_updater.py /usr/local/games/eve/.updater/gddb.py:26: RuntimeWarning: Python C API version mismatch for module gddb_parser: This Python has API version 1013, module gddb_parser has version 1012. import gddb_parser Running... /usr/local/games/eve/.ui/runGUI /usr/local/games/eve/.ui/gddb.py:24: RuntimeWarning: Python C API version mismatch for module gddb_parser: This Python has API version 1013, module gddb_parser has version 1012. import gddb_parser Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/games/eve/.ui/Point2Play_gui.py", line 2761, in <module> rcObj.merge_dictionary_values_into_rcfile(system_info) File "/usr/lib/eve/cedegarc.py", line 537, in merge_dictionary_values_into_rcfile self.write() File "/usr/lib/eve/cedegarc.py", line 322, in write fp = file( filename, "w+" ) # Overwrite IOError: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted: '/usr/local/games/eve/.cedegarc'
The output is the same if I run "eve" or "eve -config". I can't tell what is wrong here - my user is in the "cedega" group and here are the permissions for the .cedegarc file:
-rw-rwsr-- 1 root cedega 790 2007-11-08 03:11 /usr/local/games/eve/.cedegarc
I tried making .cedegarc world writable but got the same error. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? |

Strange.
Ubuntu 7.10 (gutsy) here - I installed with the .deb package - no problem during installation.
Only problem I have is that I loose keyboard input to eve after I alt-tab away to another app and then back (doesn't happen with wine).
Re Windows - to each his own. Glad it works for you. I switched away a year ago and now I'm constantly annoyed when I have to use windows at work.

This probably arises on Gentoo too. the problem is your game folder needs to be group writable (to save configs, etc).
Easiest fix would be chmod g+rw /usr/local/games/eve/

Eh.. Why don't you stop being a sore arse and stop trolling? That won't fix anything.
FWIW, guys, I'm attempting to get EVE on Gutsy Gibbon here as well (Xubuntu variety). Will post if i notice problems.

It's already group writable by group cedega. That's why it's a mystery to me. I'm going to try the single user method when I get a chance.

it might be owned by cedega, however eve runs as your own user. So if it's writeable by the cedega user/group your own user cant write to that file. I'd venture a guess and say copy the .cedega file to your home directory and see if eve uses that, otherwise you could make it world writeable( or do a single user install)

I did a quick hack and used "chown -R myuser /usr/local/games/eve". That worked, the game runs fine now. Not the way it should be, but I'm pretty damn happy eve works in linux. So it's hard to complain.
