Incase anyone else runs into this. I installed Eve on OpenSuse 10.3 and it would display the Revelations 2 splash screen for a bit then, nothing would happen.
After turning off Desktop Effects in the Control Center, the game launched fine.

Edited by: jinchuriki on 08/11/2007 16:02:12 Wait, you're in Gnome, right? So are you referring to the Compiz effects? I still haven't figured out what's causing the splash n'crash in KDE. Will try disabling all options.
Note: Current Eve client works in Crossover Office with the "audio=0 audiodriver=0 voiceenabled=0" fix, even if compiz is active.

Yeah, I'm using Gnome. I've never heard Compiz before, I had just assumed it was using beryl, but I don't really know.

Curious... What graphics driver are you running?
Unless you installed Beryl specifically, the "Desktop Effects" stuff in Gnome is now all accomplished by Compiz-fusion in OpenSuSE 10.3, which is a combination of the old codebase of beryl and compiz.
That said, it should be the same issue in KDE, and disabling compiz-fusion (i.e getting rid of fusion-icon, etc.) should stop the splash and crash. However, on my system it doesn't seem to, even though I have full direct rendering and a working install in Crossover Office.
When run with '/usr/bin/eve --debugmsg' I get a lot of output, ending with this:
fixme:win32:PE_CreateModule Load Configuration directory ignored fixme:win32:PE_CreateModule Load Configuration directory ignored err:fixup:PE_fixup_imports No implementation for KERNEL32.dll.315(GetConsoleWindow) imported from C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\bin\vivoxsdk.dll, setting to 0xdeadbeef err:dosfs:DOSFS_FindNextEx_OpenDir Unable to open the dir err:dosfs:DOSFS_FindNextEx_OpenDir Unable to open the dir err:dosfs:DOSFS_FindNextEx_OpenDir Unable to open the dir fixme:win32:PE_CreateModule Load Configuration directory ignored err:dosfs:DOSFS_FindNextEx_OpenDir Unable to open the dir fixme:win32:PE_CreateModule Load Configuration directory ignored err:dosfs:DOSFS_FindNextEx_OpenDir Unable to open the dir err:dosfs:DOSFS_FindNextEx_OpenDir Unable to open the dir fixme:win32:PE_CreateModule Load Configuration directory ignored fixme:d3dx9:D3DXCheckVersion stub err:x11drv:X11DRV_GLX_MakeTarget failed to create offscreen render target - expect failure fixme:xrender:X11DRV_XRender_Finalize Free cached glyphsets
---------------------------
So I'm assuming this is a driver problem, as in my graphics driver doesn't want to work with Cedega but with Crossover?

I'm using the x11-video-nvidiaG01 and nvidia-gfxG01-kmp-default packages for drivers. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS.
Do you have an ATI card or something? Must be something Crossover Office does that Cedega doesn't...

Yeah, sadly I do. But I've seen other people running with similar cards, ... and I've also seen people saying that Wine and Crossover will run Eve when Cedega won't... *sigh*
However, I think this is related to something else, similar to the splash n' crashes shown in another forum. They actually give the same errors too. I think there might be hope, but it'd be in this thread: Graphics card not active in Linux?
