Hi there!
Let me begin with saying YAY for a Linux client, and that you've done a great job! I have three issues that I'd love to see fixed:
1. There is no support for international characters, such as sS÷ and other language specific characters.
2. There is no support for using the numpad. Rather annoying when entering great amounts of numbers.
3. Running multiple clients is a hassle at best. The guide doesn't work straight out for Ubuntu, but I got them running nonetheless, however, it seems keyboard and mouse input is caught by the last started client no matter what one do.
If you could fix those three, or post and official workaround, I'd be a happy puppy! Way to go CCP!!

Yes, actually I did, and it still gets caught up. I can enter stuff into other programs, but keyboard and mouse input into EVE is caught by one client. :(

This is mainly, because cedega isn't supporting non-american keyboard layouts at all. Until these guys decide to integrate other layouts, you'll have to be fine with that :\

no numpad = pain in the ass fixed keyboard layout = pain in the ass¦ no copy & paste = not good for killmails and stuff
imho the linux client is pretty much for masochists atm. but it's a good step! i hope all the issues will be solved on some way. i'm no real geek, i want things working and don't care about the "how" - so ubuntu is my destribution of choice for several versions now. i started windows partion on my comp just for some games. the "official" eve-client will reduce this list of few games by one more - but not right now. i think i will try out the linux client from time to time, but atm it's to limited for daily use (i need my umlauts, i need my numpad, i need copy&paste).
enginewise it seems to work pretty good. ---

We are aware of the unicode support issue and are working with Transgaming on a fix.
This may take a while as it require a major change to a large amount of the code base, but it is being done.

Good news!
Will there be a fix for copy&paste too? Or is this a result of platform specific problems? ---

Clipboard works fine with Wine so it's a Cedega problem.

I'm using KDE and start my client with e.g. LC_ALL="de_DE.ISO-8859-15@euro" in front of the executable e.g. /usr/bin/eve which let me use german layout characters like ÷SnT ingame. |

Edited by: riru on 10/11/2007 18:35:25 You can fix 1 and 2, just make a new file in /usr/bin (f.x. Mine is 'iseve') and put this into it:
Quote: #!/bin/sh #Set the keypad to the original keys. xmodmap -e "keycode 87 = KP_1" xmodmap -e "keycode 90 = KP_0" xmodmap -e "keycode 88 = KP_2" xmodmap -e "keycode 89 = KP_3" xmodmap -e "keycode 83 = KP_4" xmodmap -e "keycode 84 = KP_5" xmodmap -e "keycode 85 = KP_6" xmodmap -e "keycode 79 = KP_7" xmodmap -e "keycode 80 = KP_8" xmodmap -e "keycode 81 = KP_9" LANG=is_IS.ISO-8859-2 eve
And change the last line to your language, then chmod a+x the file. (You need to do this as root ofc.) Then you can use numpad and write international characters.

There's an official manual for multiple clients here. you have to have a seperate installation for each char.
Also, instead of moving .cedega to .cedega2 and then installing a second time like the manual sugguests, you can just copy .cedega

Edited by: Kadesh Priestess on 10/11/2007 21:28:01 Cedega supports international characters. But arials coming with package are really bogus. Download these fonts (link is not permanent) and place them into ~/.cedega/EVE Online/c_drive/windows/EveFonts/. (edit: i'm not sure if plain arial include non-english && non-russian glyphs, so you can take it from any friend of yours) That can't help with special character input though. You have to launch cedega using special LC_ALL and LANG variables (for russian we use "LC_ALL=ru_RU.KOI8-R LANG=ru_RU.[yourlocale] eve"). Also you may change cedega's launch script (/usr/bin/eve), adding 2 strings: export LC_ALL=ru_RU.KOI8-R export LANG=ru_RU.[yourlocale] In the middle of the file outside logical blocks. And launch just typing 'eve' w/o any additional forced variables. And multiple clients - dunno, never used more than 1. ------- EVE Online + GNU/Linux |

Most of the issues (copy paste, international keyboard etc) don't happen with wine. Go to winehq.org and search for Eve Online in app database. Follow the instructions. I have been playing Eve on that for > 6 months. Check if the speed is ok for you and you can scratch 1 game from your windows list right now (my list is down to 0 - didn't boot into my windows partition in months).

there is no Japanese support. when I start eve like blow, cedega says my locale is not supported.
$ export LANG=ja_JP.utf8 $ eve -debugmsg +warn
---snip---- fixme:string:GetLocaleInfoA 'IDEFAULTMACCODEPAGE' is not defined for your language (0411). Please define it in dlls/kernel/nls/YourLanguage.nls and submit patch for inclusion into the next Wine release. ---snip----
and game closes after splash.
if I set LANG=C eve starts but cannot input japanese characters. maybe XIM is not supported or cause of locale defination.
please support XIM and locale. it is very important for inputing multibyte characters.
BTW with 3 trcik, japanese character can be shown in eve
$ cd ~/.cedega/EVE Online/c_drive/windows/EveFonts/ $ mv Arialuni.ttf Arialuni.ttf.bak $ cp /usr/share/fonts/trutype/kochi/kochi-mincho.ttf ./Arialuni.ttf
maybe this trick can be use for another language. replace Arialuni.ttf to your language font.

You finaly got 2 clients running? with the mouse and kb not stuck in the lastly open client?
I have the same behaviour, and im still looking for a solution for this. The cp .cedega dont work to fix that.

are you shure you start the second client in the copy? just copying the folders isn't inoff, you have to build shortcuts that point to the different folders, like the manual explains
