Been trying to make the switch to Linux since the new client came out. Finally got my dual monitors working, hooray. Still trying to get multiple clients going. Anyways, the hardest thing about switching is loosing all the windows tools I've become so dependant on. EVEMon, EFT, Ventrilo. But the worst is FRAPs, I need a Linux alternative. Is there any? --

There is a linux utility that will monitor your skills like EVEMon but not sure if it does the plans like EVEMon.
Can't find the link just now but I have seen it.
Not sure about ventrilo.

if you are on ubuntu you could try installing the package recordmydesktop. This allows you to make screencasts from a simple GUI. I don't know whether it works with accelerated stuff like EVE or how it is performance wise, but it would be a good place to start.
I know VLC, mencoder, and ffmpeg also have options to record from the screen, but I don't know the specific ways to do this (for these you'll probably have to dig around on the command line, read the man pages on the commands) |

I read that Ventrilo can be made to run on wine - but is a PITA to get right and I didn't have luck with that so far. That regards the client - server is available for Linux.
TS has an official Linux version - downside is that it still uses OSS. Next version is supposed to use ALSA but that's been in the works for ages it seems.
Skype has a Linux version.
I'm looking forward to the day when I can just use EveVoice on Linux.
Eve Timer: http://aello.beerta.net/EveTimer/
No full replacement available for EveMon AFAIK. But EveMon is done on .Net. The Linux alternative is Mono and one of these days it might have enough features to support EveMon. Mono is quite capable already - not sure what's missing for EveMon at this time. Haven't checked for a while.
Fraps alternative: http://taksi.sourceforge.net/ Haven't used that myself. Just googled it - but description looks promising.
There is an EFT alternative done in Java - don't remember the name though. Google it.

EVEMon should be platform independent soon (according to the patches commited to evemon and mono) eft - nice tool maybe check out quickfit (also has officer, deadspace modules) ventrilo - is a pain/not working on wine, check out Mumble Fraps - xvidcap or recordmydesktop

Stuff like Mumble (which is nice of course) doesn't really help as it will be some time before rest of your corp and alliance switches to that too.

As FRAPs replacement, I'd recommend Istanbul, it's in Ubuntu universe as well.

Ventrilo works on both Cedega and Wine almost perfectly for me, you just need an extra script so you can use push-to-talk key without the need of clicking the ventrilo window, you can find it on the Wine Ventrilo page. (Although it doesnt seem to work for cedega, atleast not for me )

Edited by: Shadow Lightbringer on 13/11/2007 05:35:00 EFT does run under Wine. Just make sure to turn on the, "Force high-color icons" to fix most of the scrambled icons.
Also, you will notice that when you try to right-click on a modules in your setup window, the menu will appear and disappear. You can work around this by first right-clicking in a blank white area of the setup window so you get a grayed-out menu. Then go ahead and right-click on the module you wanted to right click on and then the menu will stay open. Kind of a pain, but EFT is so worth it.
I have tried a couple times to get Yukon working with no luck at all. So for now I have not been able to make any recordings.
I can confirm that Ventrillo is a royal PITA to get to run under Wine. When I did get it to work, it would only work for a few moments and never consistently. The best I could ever get it to do was either listen or transmit only, and even then it was not reliable. I just finally gave up and decided I would just have to skip corps that use Vent. Which I don't mind, I prefer TS anyways.

I've used xvidcap to record OpenGL games on Linux without problems. It's performance at high resolutions however is pretty awful, and I had to drop things down to 800x600 to get a decent frame rate out of it.
