I haven't bothered reading through this forum beyond the first page, so I apologize if this has been covered.
I know that CCP has always talked about making Planetary environments interactive, Well, I have one thing that right now would make it more interesting with out too much development time, (I figure, what do I know?).
Make Planets, Moons, Stars, realistic in size.
I think it was in FAT-GP, in CATCH, if you un-docked from the station in that system, and then hit the throttle with out changing course, eventually you run in to the planet model that its "in orbit" around. This always made me laugh. The humor isn't that you don't crash and burn through the atmosphere, its that the planet is so obviously small, and you just kinda bounce against it.
I don't think you could do much at this point to prevent the funny "bounce" effect, but by making the planets and moons, and especially the STARS realistic in size you would be doing a lot to effect the realistic impression that "space" has in the game. Theres a lot of things that I understand you can't realistically recreate every aspect of space, such as the damage subjected by the sun if you warp to 0km... or burning up in the atmosphere of a planet, but by making the planets more realistic in size, along with the moons, it might take you farther towards that goal.
Right now, as background objects, that don't do too much besides sit there and look pretty in the background.
I guess this is as much of a request, as it is a question about how CCP plans on using planetary bodies in the future.

Sounds like planets are all small as earth... The fact is they can be much bigger. I didn't check the distance from the warp point to the planet itself, but maybe it is too far, thus the planets look small. Wall, if I have much time to loose, I'll grab an inty and fly straight to the center of a planet to see the real radius (but I remember that we are... far far away!). -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

Honestly I would live with the annoyance of longer warp alignment times if it meant I didn't warp straight through a planet so often. It's like a giant sign that says "none of this is real, you are playing a game!"
having planets kill people the same way suns do would also be a good idea. And some descriptions on some of the planets would be nice.

FAT-GP is the example I have, cause I lived there for a while (Huzzah!... *sigh*).
I'm sure it happens elsewhere as well.
Warp to zero at a moon, or to a POS, you're probably only 5000km away from it according to the GUI, get a nice fast interceptor, and you can close that distance in no time. "bounce"

Eve is a cold, harsh galaxy. The laws of physics within it should not coddle us. If you run your ship into a planet, you should die. It's as simple as that.

Frontier Elite2 allowed you to land on planets and they were realistic sized, it was actually kind of scary trying to planet fall in a ship, sometimes you just couldn't get a good angle and bang. (1993)
