I am faily new to the whole exploration concept. I think its fun but one of the things that will eventually cause storage issues will be the making of book marks. Bear with me a sec. Before the "warp to0" thing came around we had to make book marks so that we could land where we wanted to (ie the gate) or create safe spots. When we lay out our probes to find hidden site we often have to make bookmarks to fill in the gaps between the probes scan radius. These book marks will again be stored for future referance. simply because its a pain making them damn things for the probes lol. as they have to be in a location to allow for a probe to be used. Anyway a good way to prevent a simular problem with bookmarks like in the past. It would be nice to just simply activate the solar system map and place the cursor where you want the ship to warp to. Just a thought. Hope a dev group member sees it and decides to run with it :)

Arbitrary warping has been discussed in the past. The problem with being able to warp to just anywhere is that it becomes too easy to make safespots that are very difficult to find and also opens up the possibility for someone to exploit and break safespots using triangulation / whatever. The latter reason is why the dev's have shot down this idea in the past.
For now I suggest sticking to making your system bookmarks and remember that you can show them in the solar system map and warp to them that way (right click the flag, warp to bookmark).

Ho can this be used as an exploit? warping anywhere on the map would still be a chance then when it comes to finding safe spots. What are the odds of me finding or knowing where somones safe spots are at. If I accidently land on it then it was a chance thing. I would still find them with my probes anyways if I hapen to be looking for them. I still believe point and click navigation would be an awsome tool limited to co op frigs.

While I appreciate that some people would have have trouble finding safe spots over 40au out, there are probes that cover 999au and so being able to go out beyond the regular probes creates a need for specialist scouts and trackers again which has been missing since the probes changes.
Also we have been actively encouraged to use triangulation by the devs with specific limits i.e. you can't launch a probe within the scan radius of another. Personally I like the idea that people can make hard to find safe spots, it makes it all the more satisfying to catch them in them
Currently people using in system safe spots are incredably easy to find and it needs to be a bit more difficult.

Agreed, Besides I think over time CCP will have to pay attention to this idea. Simply because the database for all the bookmarks which they said caused storage issues and lag. Which is why they have made it possible for everyone to warp to zero nw. vice making hords of bookmarks that were made around 11km beyond the gates just to warp to the gate. I do not miss the days where we had to approach the stations or gates from 15km out. lol
