Edited by: Legatus Augustine on 16/11/2007 23:32:12 I have been playing for one week as Minmatar soldier. I now have 900K skill points, 10 mil ISK, and am happily flying a around in my Thrasher flying level 1 quality 18 npc missions. just learning. I know there is more out there but....
My question to anyone ( i would love to hear from everyone ) is this.....
Where were you all at after one week in the game? What about one month? And six months?
I WANT to hear from different people what their strategies and goals were for themselves at different times in the game (1,000,000 skill points or 3 months into the game etc.) I'm looking for BIG picture answers..were you trying to join a corporation or were you just happy soloing...or is it all about PVP?
What were you doing and flying and focusing skill points in to make YOUR game good from 1 week to 6 months?
thanks....

on my very first char (got delteted ) on my second week after lapying i heard all the best ore was in 0.0
so i packed up my hauler and vigil and wondered of to curse space as that was the nearest. so i set up shop in the belts dumping secure cans in variuos belts so i could run away from rats in one belt and mine in another, picking up the ore was tricky but managable.
so after about 7 days of mining i get a frig turn up and ask me what i was doing. which ofc i replyed to by saying i was mining, with in about a hour at least 30 ships had turned up at this point to watch my antics. possible becuase i was told i was insane
i had ofc no idea what they were on about, i was a 3 week old noob at that point so finally they decided to blow my ship up and told me to leave town (thank you ua industrys)
apprently i would of most likly gone unnotticed cept for the fact i was selling the ore in there main base :¦
well a quick podding and a few mill, it was worth it
just rememeber noobs can do the silliest things cause we simply dont know better, oh this was about 3-3.5 years ago.

chainsaw, miro....thanks.
definately a steep learning curve. lots to learn in this game i can see. from reading other posts it seems a good three months is needed to get going real good.
it just seems Sooo long.
DOES ANYONE belive that Newbies should try and progress as quickly as possible through the ship tree...i.e. advance to the NEXT ship as quickly as possible in their race?
probably...

Edited by: Commander Prishe on 17/11/2007 03:12:46 First few weeks was an information overload, took time to learn the game, was learning new things constantly at the same time was not understanding a lot of stuff. Hardest thing was understanding how agents worked and how to find them. A little tip dont look at the ingame map of the universe in your first few days of playing, this made my head explode.
I think I picked the game up pretty fast, had 4 million isk on the second day due to getting lucky and looting a nice module on some level 2 mission, was flying caracal on day 3, I was ready for my drake on day 12 so had to buy subscription, was doing level 3s in the second week, joined a corp after 1 month, was flying the raven and doing level 4s a week after that.

Personally I feel that you should get out into low sec and 0.0 as soon as possible to learn about the game mechanics. High sec is like ******, at first it feels good, safe, warming to your blood, you get relaxed, all in all a good time.
However; it slowly starts to drain away at your soul, you become paranoid, you don't want to take risk and lose your precious pod. Of course there is your attachment to ships and implants, can't lose those...next thing you know you are a full blown ****** addict, I mean high sec carebear, who is limiting themselves to less than 1/3 of the game.
Join one of the player run corps that accepts new pod pilots. Fly in gangs in low sec, become a tackler, learn the ropes a bit. I promise you that 95% of corps will either fully replace or offer you discounted ships and modules if you are flying with corpmates and get blown up. The more experienced pilots will guide you towards which skills you need and which skills are nice to have.
Remember, this is a great big sandbox the developers have created for us to "play" in. There used to be a great U.S. Army recruitment quote that went a little something like this:
Quote: Join the army. Travel to exotic, distant lands. Meet exciting, unusual people. And kill them
It's all up to you where you end up. I went down both paths, I was lucky back when I started they had the Power of 2 so I have one pod who is purely focused on mining and industry, which is boring as hell and I hate every minute in game, then there is my free spirited flying in gangs having a blast pod, who happens to enjoy a bit of PvP and some missions for flavor when my friends aren't around.
Either way, take your time, make some friends and set goals like I want to be a really great frigate pilot in the next 3 months or I want to carebear my arse off flying a Caldari Drake running the same missions over and over again, up to you! -
Quote: ôJust because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after youö

1 week - had learnt to mine and had about 500k in my wallet (In May 2003 making isk in Eve was not quite the simple process it is today)
1 month - Met and joined up with my first corp (these guys are still some of my very closest friends in eve). Everytime I found a piece of loot I checked the skills it needed, if I did not have the skill on my sheet I bought it.
6 months - had just about made enough isk to buy a BS through working with friends, joined an alliance, started buying low end tech 1 bpos and becoming a trader of rare items.
1 year - owned 37 tech 2 BPOs which I started buying from lucky lottery winners, many of my friends were taking breaks from game.
Today (IE 4.5 years) - I own 147 tech 2 BPOs (145 of them purchased) and I am as big a noob as ever . I enjoy trading, manufacturing, invention, missions, low sec ratting, mining (occasionally), large scale PVP - ie BIG fleet battles, small scale roaming PVP etc. My strategy on skills has meant there is little I cannot do in the game which opens up every possibility.
You currently have 325 skills and 74,306,258 skill points 0 skills at level 0 0 skills at level 1 26 skills at level 2 101 skills at level 3 103 skills at level 4 95 skills at level 5

One Week - I was still learning many parts of the game, and portions of the interface still confused me. Since I was too weak to fight NPCs, I just mined veldspar in my Bantam.
One Month - I had a Kestrel, a Retriever, a Badger Mk.II, and I could use five tech-1 light scout drones by then. I had enough gaming experience to be the one answering more questions in the Help channels and Noob corp channels than I was asking. I moved to Amarr space to enjoy the less crowded asteroid belts, and whenever I wasn't mining kernite I was doing a handful of level 1 missions in the Kestrel.

At one week I was flying a frigate doing an odd mission here and there in empire. Was working on my learning skills. It was at the time when you had to have level 5's on basic learning skills to plug in advanced learning skills (we also did not start with 800K sp but much less). So I was working towards improving my learning skills, slowly making ISK, and trying to make sense of EVE.
At one month I was flying a destroyer in low sec - 0.2/0.3 - ratting. I was done training almost all of my basic learning skills to level 5 and plugged in a few advanced learning ones (low sec ratting paid well so i had no trouble affording them). I flew my dessie for a few weeks, didn't like it, and switched to a cruiser and started training up combat skills for my cruiser which I totally lacked because over 70% of my sp were in learning. My first encounters with low sec rats in a cruiser weren't much better than in a destroyer, but as I gained sp i got better at it. I was already in a corp by that time. We hanged around low sec a lot and our main preoccupation at the time was low sec piwate griefers who didn't let us mine and rat in peace.
At six months I could pilot assault frigs and interceptors, and was working on battleship skills along with some skills needed for tech II equipment. I was already hanging out in 0.0 for several months, member of a corp that was in alliance. Skill-wise I was focusing on making myself better at killing the 0.0 spawns. I could not fly a battleship, didn't consider them very interesting, so i had to make do with the ships I could fly. By six months though i was rather good at 0.0 ratting, and finally decided I'd train for a bs so that I could fly one for alliance ops. I usually came to fleet ops as tackler or e-war support so I also trained up to have decent e-war skills. In a few months I was envisioning myself training for recon and dictors, but there were always these unexpected support skills I had to train cropping up and it took a while to get to these ships.

1 week: ratting in lowsec with my shiny new (and horribly fitted) Moa. Goal: not to lose my Moa again (did on my second day)
1 month: ratting and some PvP in lowsec with my shiny new Ferox, some Lvl 2 missions, created a Corp along with a handful of RL friends. Did my learning skills & the Basics (engineering, electronics and all that). Goal: getting all my corpmates to lowsec as well.
6 month: Still lowsec and now and then some highsec missions with my shiny new Raven. Got my ass handed to me by Zazzmatazz. Learned how to friggin fit my ships. Missile skills and shield tanking skills. Goal: jumpclones and monies. Lots of monies!
1 year: No idea really... somewhere lowsec or 0.0 with whatever toy I fancied at that time... I think it was the Drake. Probably started training for HACs and Command ships by then, also crosstrained to Gallente and Minmatar, started gunnery and armor tanking skills. Also started collecting faction toys. Looked for fun in 0.0 and only found blobs, headed back to lowsec. Goal: I abandoned all goals by that time and just started doing whatever the heck I wanted to do.
Now (close to 2 years): Still in lowsec with whatever toy I fancy at the time :)

After one week I had nearly fifty thousand SPs, I'd lost six ships and I had a wallet balance of about 200k.
After one month I joined my first player corp, I'd made more than fifteen million ISK and given a good chunk of that to friends who weren't doing so well and I'd just got into my first cruiser. I'd lost eleven ships IIRC.
After six months I'd lost close to twenty ships and two pods. I was ratting in Catch in a Thorax when the nasty pirates would let me, I was flying frigates almost exclusively plus mining barges and haulers (though I hadn't been in empire for a little while and I was living out of the corp POS). --

1 Week I was happily hauling Giant Secure Containers from Yulai to Tourier (more profite then mining) and trying to get a clue about how eve works (totally overwhelmed by information, guess that is even worse nowadays)
1 Month I happily jumped into my first Caracal and realized in Missions that it was crap! (btw still a noob)
6 Month I jumped into my Raven (either it took longer back then or i just have been a noob (i bet on a mixture out of both)
1 Year I have joined the Corp I was always intending to join (been in their "acadamy" Corp before) and with that I joined Xetic
2 Years My Wallet looks pretty good 1 b cash and 1 T2 BPO (bought! not from an Agent)
2,5 Years my Corps System changes to a Communistic System (btw still the same Corp) I'm already in a pretty high position in the Corp so there is a lot to do on a Side note we left Xetic (no clue when it was exactly) ran around Empire for 3 or 4 month got bored and joined -V-
Now my Corp got pretty rich we own a lot of T2 BPOs now (around 40 and no crap, all that we have is for self supply in PvP) we had our own Alliance for a short Time it has happend a lot. Changes in Allys, changes in Ideas and changes by the almighty CCP. And btw i stopped feeling like a noob when i hit 40 m SP all specialized in PvP (didn't have to do anything with the ammount of SP it was just the time i realized i can fly pretty much anything with Caldari)
And just for your Info you will never stop learning in EVE. Even if you have playe 4 years there a still new things to be found at each day.

ugh where to start...
First week: i was in a thorax..which conincidently was a sheild boosted thorax ( o.O ) i didnt no what skills where.. i just seen big ships and thought.. i want them. i had this theory that bigger was better.. soon found out it wasnt. joined a corp and started level 1 missions and it evenually led to level 2.
first month: battle cruiser... bit better, but i lost 3 of them (brutix) before i learned my lesson in level 3 missions. by this time i had no backbone skills. mechanic/electronics/engineering. it was mostly in drones/spaceship command.
6 months: i now had the backbone skills to 5, hull upgrades to 5 also (great skill to have) doing level 4 missions solo in a domi/mega.
present: hmm right now im about 10-11 monthes old. i have battleship level 5. good gunnery skills to get me by. some nice drone skills (what i consider nice others consider..wtf)
i have gallente dread level 1. and i have around 10mil SP. so im moving up slowly but surely. isk in my wallet at the moment is 800mil and some change. i PVP alot cause.. its good obviously :D and to eb honest best thing a new person could do is really get into a good starting corp and ask questions to everything. dont do certain missions without asking.. what is resistances, what do these guys do here?
you will get there evenually though :) just have to stick at it really lol..its a long lengthy process trying to build up your capital and trying to make a name for yourself :)

after my first week I was still flying a frigate and had next to no isk left
After my first month I was flying a destroyer with no isk left
after my first 6 months I was still flying a destroyer because I liked it better than cruisers and battlecruisers were too expensive, but I had my cheetah (still broke)
after my first year: Occasionally popped into a cruiser or battlecruiser but destroyer was still my second home, made a whole lot of isk scouting in my cheetah for privateer gatecamps
1.5: Battlecruisers were the norm for running level 3's
2: I could fly most t2 frigates (all races)
now: I can fly all t2 frigates, and all minmatar t2 cruisers my hangars have multiple battleships and I have a hard time deciding which ship to fly for what

Lets see....
1 week... I was still doing n00b missions, might have been in a cormorant.
1 month... think I was in lvl 3s, barely. and in a Ferox.
6 months... got picked up by a carebear mining corp at about 3 months and proceeded to waste the next year or so training mining/indy skills. Wasn't until about 8-9 months that I realized I needed to focus in on training. "You don't have a soul, you are a soul. You have a body." C.S. Lewis. |

1 week. Well, I did some missions, but a lot of the time I was looking through low and no sec for rat and player drops other people had ignored, some might call it stealing their loot, but since they didn't want it I figured it was up for grabs. Got lucky and found a snake implant or something like that, don't remember for sure. Sold it for 50 mil or so, and that got me some implants, advanced learning skillbooks and a cruiser of two.
2-3 months. Got bored as well as disheartened by dev scandals as well as all the evil in this game, griefers and whatnot, despite not having direct contact with either issue. Didn't log in for 1,5-2 months, despite having paid 6 months in advance for two accounts.
6 months. Doing some manufacturing, some trading and L4's. Obsessing about ship setup efficiency for missions, and mission time & dps per training time and isk.

I read a post on a forum somewhere that explained how to get involved in pvp right out of the gate. I got my ****ty Incursus fit up and headed out to low sec to kill folks.
Lost a lot of Incursus but had a good time. Made me want to keep playing eve.
I think I had about 3million isk in the wallet when I made my first trip into 0.0. Went to h-pa29 in an Incursus and had a good time trying to get through MM controlled space.
Got blown up within a week of making it to h-pa.
Tried that one more time before looking for a 0.0 pvp corp to join.

1 Week: I learned that you can't kill people with bounties in high sec.
1 Month: I learned that you can't salvage your gang member's wrecks in high sec (unless they're in your corp).
6 Months: I learned that I can run level 4s but can't fit a BS for $#!%.
Basically, I've been having absolute fun with the sink or swim method ever since I started. And it doesn't stop "taking off" in terms of unlocking new things to do for quite some time. I love this game.

1 month in - made about 4 Billion in ETC trades, bought a character with learning completed and started using him as the main. Realised PVP was no were near as much fun with no risk, gave up trading ETCs and blew the lot on ships/mods etc. Was asked to leave the corp with my new main by my RL mate who was CEO (as suicide ganking was geting him alot of nasty eve-mails), joined PRIVS
3 Months in was using "Sorted" and was director in Privateer Allaince.
6 Months in was still yaring it up in empire with some 100-250 weekly empire wars (90% of eve was a little red star, LOVED IT)
12 Months-current, after the Allaince P nerf joined another RL mate who was in IAC. Left shortly before FAT fell to join some old allaince P buddies in low sec and enjoying Eve again....
EDIT: theres about 12+ people I know in RL who play, the majority of us move around the same corps together, so there was always familiar faces to pew pew with.

1 - 1st day. Completed the tutorial and was hooked. Joined Player owned corporation with other online friends that started playing a few days before. No-one had a clue.
2 - 1st week. Knew learning skills were a good thing. Knew Pirates werent. Decided that eve and beer doesnt mix.
3 - 1st month. Loved mining, trading and ratting and pvp. In a battleship and decided that battleships were the only way. I had decided that i would never Pirate.
4 - 6 months. Found myself in a 0.0 Alliance and that was great fun. Decided that beer and eve does mix
5 - 1 year. 1st year will be completed in 6 days time. Found a new direction. Headed that way.

My time is much shorter, so far, but here goes:
1 Day - Already been playing a week on my other character. Rerolled and finished my tutorial. I found a corp quickly, as I didn't want to have to move loads of ships later.
Couple Days - First corp donated a good million to my first practice PvP in a frigate with them, and to get my career rolling. I'm now mining omber in a Bantam with 2 Miner IIs and making some good ISK. Made my first million in there somewhere. Every time the rats come I have to rush back to station and grab my Kestrel, though.
Week and a Half - I'm mining in an Osprey now, following Halada's guide. I don't have to jump back to station every time rats appear in system any more. However, I want to spread out and I hear there's good money in Kernite, so I track some down... Discovering this corp isn't exactly for me. I browse through the offices in the system that has kernite I've been mining for a little bit. Found a new one.
So I've gone from newbie Caldari space to Gallente, settled in Amarr now.
1 Month - Mining out the kernite in my Retriever, but the kernite disappears quickly, and there's the ore thieves/can flippers to worry about. Besides, I want to raise my standings, eventually get a jump clone. So more and more I leave off mining and take my Caracal into some Lvl 2 missions. I've been reading the forums, so it's decently fitted and I never lost a Caracal in PvE.
2 Month - I'm now around my two month mark. Been training for exploration for the past couple weeks, pew pewing Lvl 3s in my Drake in the mean time. Finally got standings for a jump clone, weeee! I only went over my 100 Mil mark when I lost my Drake in the last of a 10 part storyline mission and got insurance. Been buying up stuff like crazy, particularly probe BPOs for my exploration. Can't wait to start doing Magnetometric sites tomorrow. Woohoo!

1 week: i had something alike 250-300k SP, there was not much i could do, i had a bantam and was slowly gearing to destroyers, wondering where could i possibly find 2mil ISK (i had no more than 500k). i was just trying to learn the very basics of gunnery and spaceship command.
1 month: i was starting to develop my character in more ways, mining, industry, science. i was enjoying my first mil SP, with some useful skills at lev 4. i stored my cormorant and armed a BB for ratting (lol). i sticked with lvl2 missions improving my standings and making a bit of money.
6 months: after 3 months i joined my first corporation, and i was starting to learn the most advanced things about industry, market, fighting. I jumped onto a ferox, my first "big ship" (i sticked with BCs, and am actually, with 20mil SP, a decent mid-ship pilot, fielding t2 cruisers and t1 BCs, never cared about BSes, just took the skill for logistics purpose).
1 year: i started behaving quite as a mature player. i was in a harsh environment, fighting a war on the losing side. i've lost some good ships, so i become fully aware of the risks involving pvp and life in 0.0. i was almost ready even as a pvp player. then, Karishal's Defiance fell, and UNITY followed soon. we lost the war and retreated all the way back to empire.

Edited by: Dragon Lord on 20/11/2007 00:33:56 1 week, think i was in a kessi by then, running lvl1 missions stayed in that till i found out the merlin had a better tank.
1 month, joined my first corp, was attempting lvl2s by then, and getting pwned badly in my merlin.
6 Months was in a raven grinding lvl3 agents like mad to get a CNR.
1 Year finally got my CNR and fitted a full set of +5s
Today, ive maxed my learning hav just under 30m sp and my trader alt means my bank balance is "Heathly"
Aiming for a golem when they come out, i have all the pre reqs now, after that become as good as its possible to be flying caldari combat ships. Well im not going to do things like cruise missile spec 5, at least not until i get my skills up for gunnery and other races first.
Eventual aim, to get to a point when i dont care how long a skill takes to train, so i can just go pvping all the time.

First character I made Week 1: Mining in 0.8, making money for a mining frig and then mining cruiser Month 1: Stopped mining and started import/export of goods using gallente industrials. After a year: Quit the character, remade Caldari mission runners, then quit EVE altogether for about a year again.
Current month (nov. 2007) - Remade an Amarr with soldier template and training to focus on PvP'ing/fleet with Armageddon.
Future plans - probably make an industry/builder alt when I have enough isk again to waste on BPC's and BPO's.

After 1 Week i was still outside stations watching huge ships and painting a constant "omg wtf" on my face.
After 2 Weeks i was still mining veldspar, and since i hate quests in other mmorpgs i had not really something else todo beside getting isk and skills.
I spend more and more time in the eve help channels til i started to help other new players also.
My first goal was to train for a Ferox not because of its bonuses but because i liked the design of the ship :) After 3 Months i joined a G near Corporation and moved into 0.0 to learn pvp and stuff around this (i guess they recruted me as fragmeat *g*).
Since this time i only go back to empire to buy stuff i cant get in 0.0, AND every damn time i fligh into the first low-sec system it feels strange, my 0.0 feels much much safer then empire :)
Assuming i had to make a new char now my 6 month goal would be to get very good with one ship class like cruisers + t2 weapons. ... Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed filesize of 24000 bytes -Sahwoolo Etoophie ([email protected]) |

Let's see now...
1 week - Doing L1's in my possibly horrible Rifter.
1 month - Joined a player corp, doing L2's in a slightly better Rupture.
Present (about 3 1/2 months) - Dumped my Hurricane for a Maelstrom and doing L3's until i get enough rep for L4's.
1.8 mil skillpoints (i can't play very often, so training time is gimped), about 15mil isk. Currently working on training up all the low skills i got during my happy noob days and didn't get more than rank 2.
That said, take your time. I've been disheartened a lot of times by people on the forums going on about high-end skills and T2 mods, but i have neither (working on them though) and i gotta say i've been good so far. ---------------------------------------- Mandatory crazy forum guy. Joy! |

Edited by: Pavachek Secundus on 20/11/2007 14:36:48 First Character - Pavachek (now deceased) - Born 12/03
1st Week - Spent seven nearly sleepless nights learning everything there was to know about Eve because it was fresh and exciting. Did alot of low-sec ratting in a Kestrel armed with heavy missiles.
2nd Week - I was recruited by my first corp while heading to Min high-sec from the Amamake area (yes, that area was nearly empty and relatively safe at one time.) Within 2 days, I was their "Human Resources Manager" but the title could have easily been "Noob Shepherd". It was a less-than-ideal way to spend my game time but it gave me something to do.
6th Month - By then I had formed my own corp and we had settled down in the Lonetrek region. At around this time, the first huge trit buy order for 1.0per appeared so we were most likely trying to mine every piece of Veld in sight to fill it.
This Character - Pavachek Secundus(not an alt) - born 02/07
1st and 2nd Weeks - After a long break I spent the first weeks familiarizing myself with any new game mechanics and making as much isk as I could. By the end of the second week I was piloting a Drake, had a respectable wallet balance, and felt I was ready to start my own corp again.
6th Month - I was becoming a bit restless as a solo pilot. Although I had built up quite a pile of personal/corp assets, I wasn't really very focused. Mining, missioning, low sec ratting, exploring, manufacturing....I had enough SPs spread around that I didn't have to do the same thing everyday. Even so, I couldn't help but feel a little bit bored everytime I logged in. I stayed solo for another month and a half and then went looking for a corp to join.

Of course by this point I was happily rich having found a few nice things in low sec. I was looking for a corp to join. I was flying an Incursus (later on joined Eve Uni) Six Months: I was running my own corp. Pulling hair out ftl. I was flying Cruisers, Recons, Cov Ops. One Year: My corp has folded and now I'm in Star Fraction... Oh the Pew Pew I am happier now I'm not runnign a corp and I'm flying... well alot.

6th month:I finally had my first Barge.Made loads of ISK.Bought a heap of stuff that caught my eye.I was invited into my first corp.
11th month:I mine in a Hulk.I have the ship I was aiming for from the very first day of playing, had it awhile now.I hate running missions, despise it really.I can fly all Exhumers, all Barges, all Caldari BS's,Assault Ships,Covert Ops,all other races frigs, destroyers, industrials, cruisers,BC's and I have most of them.I now collect ships as a hobby.Still with my first corp's CEO.
I have no intentions to move on to any Capital Ships and I will never touch that stupid ORE Rorqual.I have no inclination towards POS,or anything of that nature.Been to 0.0 sec had fun, made money safer in Empire.I'm seriously bored up here.

1st Week Decided I wanted tougher rats. Flew my rifter into low sec to kill tougher rats. Died. Several times. Got a Destroyer. Decided to try. Died several more times. Never flew a Destroyer again for combat.
3rd Week Got a cruiser. Decided to try for tougher rats again. Went to Egglehande. Mistake. (Didnt lose my ship though) Decided maybe missions are a better idea for making isk.
6 Months: Finished solo mining my first battleship with an Scythe. Decided I hated mining.
12 Months: Had switched corps a bit. Running L4s for isk and flying some low sec for fun. Decided to join a low sec anti-pirate group. Specialized a bit in tackling. Jaguar pilot mostly..with Battleship reserved for missions.

1 week - running L1 missions for random agents in the Todaki area in my ibis, just whoever would accept me. Absolutely no idea what I was doing.
1 month - by now I had found the rest of my RL friends who had joined around the same time. I had a merlin for NPC hunting, a bantam for mining and a badger for hauling. My first osprey wasn't too far away.
3 months - much had happened by now. I knew how scanners worked and how to make instas, and I had found a relatively quiet spot in 0.0 in which I could either ninja-mine with the osprey, or ninja-rat with a caracal. I had decided that NPCing was the way I wanted to make my money, but the hassles of ammo was a pain, so around this time I started cross-training into Amarr.
6 months - my corp had merged with another in a 0.0 alliance, and I was getting regular PvP action, even leading my own gangs once or twice. At this point in the game (end of 2004), the gankgeddon and jammer scorp were my two fave ships, while I had trained a hauler alt to be able to fly a cloaking vigil for some cheap covert ops.
9 months - I was living the mercenary life for a while, mainly flying jammer scorps until the EW changes kicked in. Pulse lasers were also nerfed in that same patch, and so in my desperation to find a ship that didn't suck all of a sudden, I started cross-training into Gallente.
12 months - finally I was interceptor capable (was never really in a hurry to get into ships I couldn't insure), and about to return to 0.0 alliance life once again. The plan from here skillwise was pretty much just about consolidating everything I'd started across the 3 different races.
EDIT: 3.5 years and 54mil SP later, I'm still consolidating.

Day 1: Did the tutorial. Overspent on skills and had to mine veldspar to buy some learning skills. Decided mining sucks and tried to avoid it at all costs in the future.
1st week: Running courier missions in a frigate while doing some reading. I bought a few new books for myself and between playing EVE and reading them during my free time it was a difficult choice. So I decided to combine these activities.
2nd week: Joined a newbie corp. Decided hanging out with other newbies was more to my liking. I enjoy figuring things on my own and it was cool hanging with people who were on the same stage in game with me and had much in common with me. Moved out to low security space with them and ratted in my frigate. We ratted and mined in three low sec systems which were mainly anti-pirate. Occasionally some pirates wandered in and someone would lose a frig or a cruiser. We entered gang of anti-pirates to try and hunt them back in revenge.
4th week: Buy myself a Vexor and continue ratting in low sec. I already lost a few frigs to pirates and so I knew how to keep my Vex safe and how to use ship scanner. Got more engaged in corp management and recruitment. Notice some weird recruits hanging out in recruitment channel asking weird questions in private convos. Eventually figured out they were fishing for newbie corps like ours to wardec them. Avoided these and dodged a few scamming attempts. Tried mining again and it sucked again.
Month 2: Low sec rats become too easy to kill now. Our noob corp starts looking for alliance to see some more action. Eventually we find an alliance and due to our leadership being unable to play much, myself included, merge into one of their corps. I go on a rat killing spree in 0.0 - sometimes rats killed me back though. Focus on improving my setups and pvp skills to stop losing ships.
Month 6: 0.0 rats are no longer a challenge. I used my income from them to start up some trading between high sec and 0.0 where I lived. Made my first billion ISK by this time. Started getting more into alliance politics not feeling like a complete noob. Figured this alliance sucks and has nothing to offer to me, plus leadership is mostly composed of not my kind of people.
Month 8: Joined a pirate corp and went back to empire. Started experimenting with scamming at the same time. Grew moderately rich combining scamming and trading between empire and 0.0. Meanwhile I was having fun pirating in low sec and 0.0, ninja ratting to raise sec status, and ganking miners in high sec. Did some corp management stuff in addition. I could fly assault frigates, inties, battleships, cov ops, and was training up to hacs at that time.
Month 10: Discovered a new way to trade. Combined it with my scamming and grew disgustingly filthy rich to the point where i had no idea what to do with all this money. Was still pirating around with same group of people, focusing more on 0.0. We were all pvp noobs in this corp so there was much to learn about pvp.
Month 12: Left corp and stopped playing EVE due to lack of time. Logged on a few hours each week to continue trading and do some scamming for fun. Will come back for more pvp whenever I have more free time. Gonna use money to buy a character and try out flying ships different races for variety. With the rest, i don't now, may be help build an outpost or something? :)

a few days old: i started to regret the choices i made in character creation, but decided it was too late to reroll, as that would reduce game immersion for me. i regret that choice now.
i started out carebearing in hi sec empire, with the occasional visit to low sec. i enjoyed the freedom of being a solo player in noob corp. did some trading until i had all the isk i needed at the time. spent most of my time grinding missions (in a Tristan, later on a Thorax, finally a Myrmidon) and doing exploration in hi sec.
11 months old: i still couldn't fly a BS, couldn't even use repair mods/drones or warp scramblers... but, i felt like getting into 0.0 ratting and exploration, so i decided to join a corp after all. after a lot of thought, i decided the thing i wanted most from a corp, was a chance to help the Coalition against BoB. IAC is the alliance for me (because of our attitude, NRDS policy, location, international composition, my strategic considerations regarding the war etc. etc.), so i joined Firing Squad and moved to FAT. (after a while FISQ left IAC, and i switched to Umbra Congregatio: my present home :) )
i went straight to the frontline upon arrival, feeling like a total noob again :) many fleet ops later, the Greater BoB Community and MC drove us out of my new home station, and IAC went NBSI in Catch. exciting times...
in retrospect, i'm glad i joined IAC, i should have done so much much earlier :)
hints for new players: - get those Learning skills done, and use attribute implants. reroll if your char's attributes don't suit your needs. - get a feel for what it is you like best in Eve (trade, missions, mining, piracy, PVP, fleet warfare, hauling, exploration, manufacturing, invention, ratting, teamwork, scamming/griefing...) - keep in mind that some corps are dedicated to training noobs.

Second Month, Trained Minmatar Ships. Flew a hurricane and started ratting in 0.0 space. I lost like 5 canes in a week. There went my 120 mil from that spawn :/
Third Month, My current Month. I am flying a maelstrom with some t2 fittings running l4 missions. Got around 250mil in my pocket right now. Pvp every now and again in cruisers and frigs.

First Month : Died alot (as noobs do)roaming around systems and getting inspired on what i wanted to become, joined an empire corp on the second week and became a Miner and started to learn the exploration skills, trained up to become an ore barge pilot.
Third Month: Had a difference of opinion with my empire corp CEO so i left and created my own corp, was headhunted by a 0.0 corp director and left my own corp to join theirs. started to train for a freighter and a BS.
Sixth Month: Continued to mine and defend our 0.0 alliance space from invader's in my first alliance war, i also started to learn manufacturing and refining skills.
Currently: decided that i want to learn invention so have learned all the skills and have started my first few steps to becoming a T2/T3 (trinity patch) dealer/manufacturer. i also enjoy mission running, exploration and took part in my first corp/gang/fleet PvP Op the other day. i think i will continue to be a miner/manufacturer/inventer (Carebear) but when needed i think i will also like getting out the guns and go blow ppl into little tiny pieces.

1 week - overwhelmed by the game and all the options. Trying to figure out what I want to do and what I want to work at. Thanks to a generous gift from the buddy that got me into the game I was super excited to upgrade from my little frigate to a Cormorant and buy a full set of +3 implants.
After that...well, technically my full 1 week of playing the game doesn't even come for another day so thats all I have to post!

First Day + Week: Mining in a Tormentor, got popped when I shot at a can thief. Decided that a Harbi would pwn him. Spent all week (literally 12+ hours a day) mining in a frigate. I also was training every skill I could buy to level 1 thinking that was very beneficial.
First Month: After losing previously mined Harbi by taking it into low sec to pwn blinky reds, I settled into the carebear life. I started mission whoring like mad.
4 Months: After a short sting in 0.0 with a terrible alliance, and a chance war, I decided to get into the pvp life. Created a merc corp and started building it. A few months later, I know understand pvp, and can survive fights. I am currently running a fairly successful merc corp and having a blast in high sec blowing people up ^^

Week 1: Started with really low skills think it was at 8k so did not realy know what to do trained for frig used to get podded all the time in egghellend.
6 months : In between going away with work and getting the wife to change the skills that took some time, i tried my hand at a bit of mining and it bored me to death but i was running around in a dom and soloing lvl 3 aswell.
present day : I decided that it would be fun to pvp for a bit so of i set to the big bad low sec where i scored some hits and some deaths as is all fair in love and war, tired of all this pirating decided to get my sec up again so i am currently doing missions to get sec back up but will prob go out and pirate again plus i have difficultys getting sec up when flying around ratting in low sec to get standing up i have a bad habbit of killing people just need to sit on my hands i guess

first week got approached by a few corps and and was deciding which one to join as well as learning the interface trading mining doing some missions.
week 3 was givin acess to corp hangers and started recuiting and helping the newer members.
a month: took that small corp of 10 when i started to over 30 in a week or few organising mining ops group missioning etc. Its fun doing level 3 missions with 20 frigs.
2 months: was pushing level 3 missions in the ferox working up the cash for a raven.
3 months: was able to do level 4 missions and had the skills to tank level 4 missions but not enough cash when i was close to buying one i would lose my ferox and be back down making isk again. turns out an older member i knew well was leaving and gave his raven to me. I stepped up to lv 4 missions and never looked back.
3months-6months: level 4 missions making heaps and taining some newer guys and helping them out isk wise. moved to the actualy corp shortly after and polished off my coveter skills and moved to 0.0 which i havent really returned to empire from yet. started to train up my backbone skills as well. 8 months got promoted and started roganizing moon probing and corp logistics.
9 months was promoted to full director of "big corp", recutied more helped train new guys and keep teh CEO from pulling his hair out at ppls.
10 months started building and filling corp orders as well as keeping hangers stocked.
since then i maintain POS's moon mining, capital production, recutiment, PVP ops FC, corp hanger levels, mining manager, new venture thinker and over all go to person for help in our corp. It can be grueling fun but the reward is great and ppl hate when i go on holidays hehe. You know when u have done a good job when u get back and ppl say "omg dont do that again" and "how do u get time for all that".
I trade as well as ratting/missions and just about any other way of making money i have grown bored of. Working toward some T2 cruisers and command atm only 5 days to both of em woo hoo. -------------------------------------------------- It is not what u are underneath, but what you do that defines you |

Edited by: Draeca on 04/12/2007 16:19:11 1 week: ratting in a shieldtanked Tristan 1 week and few days: started a new char before the trial ended, this was also gallente but soldier specced instead of spec ops.
About 1-2 weeks with the new char: got my first Vexor. Lost it after I dueled my friend and somehow got tagged as a criminal. Concordokkend on the next gate I jumped to.
~1 month. Realised that ratting sucked and static plexes /w salvaging skill were nice source of isk. Did those in my new vexor until I got enough ISKies to buy a brutix
~2 months. Missionrunning in my brutix. Changed it for a myrmi after a while, and ripped through lvl3 missions with it. I also got some pvp-experience by doing one-man suicide raids to lowsec with my incursus.
~3-4 months. Got enough skills and iskies to buy a Domi, and start soloing lvl4 missions with it. More pvp-experience from FNA (gallente newbcorp) fleetops.
~5-6 months. Got rich by doing those lvl4's. My life consisted of idling, doing missions and occasional lowsec roaming with a Thorax
~7 months. Got skills for interceptors. Lots of lowsec roaming, sec status lowered to -2. Joined my current corp, which was born from those FNA fleet ops some months ago. Also experienced my first war when some corp got upset when we killed their Drake in "their" territory. We only fought one fight against the wardeccer corp, and we managed to kill their Deimos while losing 3 T1 cruisers and one frig.
Now, ~8 months. few hundred k away from 10mil SP, over 800mil in wallet. Flying my domi in missions, which have gotten really boring and my life consists of idling, idling and more idling right now, and almost fully T2 fitted (only midslots are T1) Brutix in pvp. Corp is moving to a new area in lowsec and close proximity to 0.0 to operate with our friend-corps and get more action, and hopefully we will merge at some point.

Day 1 : Thought I wanted to be an industrial/miner. That character went byebye!
Day 3 : Created Verital with the word "Spartan" in mind. Gunnery/Ship command skills all the way from the start. Flying a destroyer for a while, ratting in lowsec for income. That came to an end when a Deimos pilot tried to ransom it for 5M. I didn't have it, not that I would have paid anyway
1 Month : Was flying a horrifically bad Harbringer setup (2 WC stabs, beam lasers with radio crystals) and missioning in .2 space. Never lost that puppy though! Saved money for BS.
2 Month : Was doing lvl 3 missions in an Armageddon (Much better fit this time!)
Now (4 months) : Joined the corp in 0.0. I now have a collection of battleships that I use to make money with. Lost one already (insurance FTW!), but in all Ive made more in 0.0 than I ever did in empire. Although Im sure some players would call me crazy for flying something that expensive with only 2.8M sp, Id rather be a noob in a BS than be a noob in a cruiser

Back in the day the ship route was much easier.. Frig --> Cruiser --> BS and the side option was frig --> Inty --> Cov-Op. Also had Indy but that was it! So:
1 week: Flying about in a Rifter, met my 1st corp & was shown the ropes
1 month: Got the mins to buy a Ruppy.. Discovered low sec was a brown trouser region.. Discovered Missions. Discovered CA & Moo and what they did if you tried to fly into their space!
6 months: Eventually had the isk to buy my 1st BS.. a phoon.. which I then took on a lvl 3 mission (which were bloody hard back then) and lost it!! spent the following month mining and doing missions to afford a replacement! Also worked out that I hated mining and have since always steered well clear of it!!
Back then, no advanced learning, no warp to zero, space was much bigger and to travel 16 jumps took an eternity

For my original character:
1 week: Learnings/Rifter skills, Nub mining/L1 missions 1 month: Learnings/Basics, Mining in scythe 3 months: Training for Apoc (for better mining LOL as well as 8 turrets), Formed empire corp, mining to help corp members 6 months: Training long skills, running empire missions and getting bored with the game
Everyone has different interests and follows a different path. If you want to know what to do - do whatever you want. If you are getting bored, then it's time for a change of activities. It was a lot more fun once I joined a 0.0 corp, but I wouldn't have wanted to start out there. Personally I enjoy variety - I couldn't just do one thing, not even 0.0 PvP. A lot of the fun I had was unique stuff I invented on my own...

1 week: nervously headed into lowsec in my Slasher after recieving in invite from a player corp 1 week + 5 minutes: realized rats in 0.4 will eat a slasher with civilian autocannons in about 11 seconds. 2 weeks: mining/running from rats in 0.5 in a burst. Killing rats with a thrasher. 3 weeks: mining in a scythe with 3 miner IIs to buy a better cruiser. Missile launchers in the extra slots meant I didn't need to run from the rats anymore! 1 month: flying a rupture, running level 1 missions and ratting in 0.3. 2 months: A battleship full of t2 components attacked my hauler in 0.5 space. The salvage after he got concorded bought me a hurricane!! Thanks!!! 2.5 months: L3 missions and 0.3 ratting in a hurricane, mining in a retriever (drones to keep the rats off), getting ready to move to 0.0.

Edited by: Mox Kaleb on 18/12/2007 13:24:30 May 2003 - 1 week - In a Bantam, mining my heart out in Umokka, just to get to 300,000 ISK and buy Caldari Indy skill book. As a previous poster has mentioned, ISK was nothing like as easy to obtain, and had to be earned through hard graft in the first weeks of the game. Not much came for free, or with ease.
1 month - In my first Badger II, meant mining was easier. Started ratting in a Kessie, but lost two of them in a day due to missile splash. Very deflated. No ISK left. Badger II got popped by Tank CEO at the Aurohunen jump in point (no jumping in at gates in those days). Utterly distraught. Kept going though.
6 months - Trading 'Robotics' in an Iteron III, and reached 50 million ISK. Couldn't believe it. Bought a Dominix from a guy called Terell, but was so desperate to get it that I transferred the 45 mil to him directly. Fatal error. He logged, and proceeded to laugh at me for weeks in the Trade channel. Worked hard in the following week to get the ISK back with more Robotics trading. Bought a Domi from a kindly chap who flew it all the way up through Stain past gate camps to get it to me.
12 months - Needed a change - Joined foremost anti-pirate pvper corp at the time. Opened up a whole new world, and spent a joyous year bashing Curse Alliance and nasty pirates all over the place.
2 years - Left Eve due to partner threatening to leave me. A year later she left anyway!
Mid 2006 - Rejoin Eve with new character - train skills for nearly a year without playing.
Mid 2007 - Borrow ISK from former corp mate, buy freighter.
Present - Still solo player. Make billions instead of millions.
Eve - what a ride.

At one week I had gotten into a good corp by hosting their teamspeak server. Here I was mining with them in my pitiful little bantam while all I could see around me were a bunch of Hulks.
At six months we got wardecced several times in a row, decided to leave corp and find a new one.
At 1 year my old CEO from my first corp evemailed me and said he needed help starting an Alliance.
At 1.5 years I had founded a corp called Morning Star Syndicate with about 30 members. We had opened up a POS in lowsec Tash-Murkon region, until my account was hacked and our Charon taken (CCP refused to help, as it appeared to them to be account sharing). Could no longer profit from shuttling Rokhs from Caldari to Minnie space, scuttled POS)
Today, I'm the 2IC of an alliance with shy of 300 members.

3 Months- Had trained all the way up to BattleCruisers, and I think had just come back down to Assault Frigs. One of the best moves I ever did, in retrospect. Was training support/fitting skills.
6 Months- Just passed this recently. More fitting skills, can do mostly T2 fits on Assault Frigs. Out in true 0.0 pushing my experience as far as I can.

Day 1: after much curiosity i set out in my shiny velator. dazzled by the "uniqueness" of gallente as i was i proceeded to get popped by the station guns for trying my civvy gun on it
week1: got my first thorax after a lot of swearing at roids. joined a couple of pirates and helped pop a dominix's drones while they ransomed.
Week2: lost mentioned thorax by the hands of said gangmates
mont3: was having a blast in 0.0 until my corp got camped in for 2 weeks straight , undocked anyway and got popped and podded and promptly lost 25% of my skillpoints.
Quit eve.
15 months rejoined eve and was a missionrunner / lowsec pirate solo until joining a new 0.0 corp.
quit eve again after 6 months.
Present day rejoined 2 weeks ago and am busy with building my wallet up from scratch again in 0.0

Day 2- Podjumped to Syndicate to get the hell out of empire for good. Joined goonfleet.
Week 1- did some learning skills/tackling skills. Got blown up almost daily. Was happy the first time I actually returned from an op without being podded.
Month 1- Got a little better at fighting, was in my first war against D2 in BKG area. Learned how to be self sufficient.
Month 6- Returned from failed attempt at taking our first non-Npc space (Cloud Ring) vs. D2 again, to get camped in and crapped on by Bob/LV/V/ASCN/MC/rest of 0.0 that was bored at the time. Learned about mission running.
Year 1- Began killing off all the people/alliances who were present in syndicate back then. Got into some of my first T2 ships, and invested in some production skills/bpos.
Year 2- Finishing off the list from way back when. Just getting into capital ships, finally starting to really rake in the dough. Have done alot better in the PVP part of the game than I thought I would after the rough start I had, lol.

1 week: did the tutorial and started running level 1 mission in my trusty Punisher
1-5 month: missioning and attending some Eve University classes and events. Trying to decide what I want to do in EVE.
6 month: moved into 0.0 joining LV which was attacked couple weeks later by Goons/RA/allies fought them with rest of LV in my t1 ships mostly frigs/cruiser with the occasional bc. Was really poor at this point but, at least had realized that PvP is by far the most fun thing in EVE for me. Felt that couple first weeks in 0.0 thought me more than first 5 months in empire. Also started my first alt to hopefully help with my acute lack of isk.
12 month: still in 0.0 in the North though, after very brief stint in the drone regions, I was now living out of the npc stations of Venal. Met Triumvirate alliance and eventually joined one of the member corps. Alt that I trained to manufacture things had been very successful venture. Made my first billion, second, third...
18 month: back in empire after our corp left Tri to move into the merc business. Still PvP:ing mostly in 0.0 though with the added bonus of empire wars to allow us to shoot our target no matter where we encounter them. PvP is good and I¦m relatively wealthy allowing me to fit my ships without having to worry about going bankrupt.

Week 1: Joined a corp, mined and did L1 missions. Month 1: Corp at war, ending after a few weeks. Month 2: Corp at war, ended after about 2 weeks. Month 4: Corp at war - still going on.
First war I avoided, second I lost a rax and a frigate. Third I'm pew pewing with the rest of em. Usually fly a cruiser, and fly it well! They're cheap and if properly skilled and fitted are pretty leathal.
Inbetween wars, did L4 missions with the corp. L2 or 3 solo, bit of mining.
Learned most of the learning skills to L4/5 and am now ripping through gunnery, backbone, drones, mechanic, engineering and electronics.

1 week- Wander around training learning skills, decide to go into industry
1 month- in industrial corp producing ships
3 months (present day) after almost going insane hauling loads of minerals to stations I snap, go to low sec to attempt piracy.
3 mil total I have 1.1 mil in learning 500k in industry 1.4 mil scattered around everything else
Inspiration for piracy:
Quote: However; it slowly starts to drain away at your soul, you become paranoid, you don't want to take risk and lose your precious pod. Of course there is your attachment to ships and implants, can't lose those...next thing you know you are a full blown ****** addict, I mean high sec carebear, who is limiting themselves to less than 1/3 of the game.
I looked at myself after reading that and said "holy crap thats beginning to sound like me!"

1st week - Did tutorials, stupidly used reward implants instead of selling them. Worked on skills and read Halada's Miner's Guide as well as ship fittings forums. Probably read more hours than played.
2nd week - started helping noobs on rookie chat, mining with Navitas and Itty I in highsec while saving for a Vexor. Discovered that rookie chat was repetitive and boring.
3rd week - got my shiny new Vexor and started mining with it. Not too exciting, easy money, but I thought I was sumpin with the new ship. Joined a corp and jumped 25 gates away to Amarr space, where I promptly quit the corp b/c it wasn't right for me. Discovered salvaging pays far more than mining. I'm still in Amarr space because I hate moving around.
Now I run Level 1 missions (too easy in a Vex) and salvage all the wrecks while I save for my Dominix. Eventually want to get into high level missions and pvp in 0.0 - still a noob, still don't know what I'm going to do but ISK is not hard to come by. Going back and training all the learning skills. I will probably NEVER mine again, as missions are too lucrative if you have salvaging.

My thoughts exactly.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

Having a blast
Originally by: Legatus Augustine What about one month?
Getting podded in lowsec before I knew what lowsec was. The severe dropoff from 0.5 and 0.4 was not made very clear back then.
Originally by: Legatus Augustine And six months?
Playing more newbie-friendly games after quitting, uninstalling and canceling my subscription immediately after the 1-month incident.
Originally by: Legatus Augustine I WANT to hear from different people what their strategies and goals were for themselves at different times in the game (1,000,000 skill points or 3 months into the game etc.) I'm looking for BIG picture answers..were you trying to join a corporation or were you just happy soloing...or is it all about PVP?
My goals have changed so frequently it'd be a long, long boring story. -- Support fixing the EVE UI | Suggest Jita fixes

1st day - Did tutorials and went and did some level one missions. After finding them **** easy, went to try level 2 missions and bye bye riftor. Then tried mining... so boring and level 1 missions gave better ISK per hour and more fun.
2nd day - Moved to low sec (heild) and got podded while i was giving ratting a go. Was so ****ed as i had just got a new rifter, but the pirate who podded me gave me tons of advice (eg. never use auto pilot in lowsec, Warp too 0). I can see now it was probable the best thing that could have happened to me.
1st week - Moved up to a BC, Cyclone ftw :) and started doing level 2 missions (still in lowsec) going through gates got my adrenaline going and i loved trash talking with the pirates who tryed to jump me.
2nd week - Got invite to a player corp and discovered the joys of trading
Right now I am still working on learning skills and currently spending most my time docked in jita/rens making BILLIONS*. The one thing i find great is that there is so much to do in eve and how i get the impression that i have barley even done 1% of the stuff that is on offer.
PS - anyone know when avatarÆs will start showing on the forum.
*(ok, mabye just millions)
