Edited by: Crumplecorn on 17/11/2007 19:45:48 I bought a new laptop so I can still dual box. My old laptop would likely not handle the new graphics well.
Edit: Just to make it clear, I didn't buy a new laptop just for EVE. I'm not that bad. -

I'm upgrading, but not just for Trinity. Unfortunately I'm suffering a few setbacks (like the stupid components I pick out being out of stock for weeks!). -------------------------------------- This character will be terminated on 17/11/2007. I'm starting over. |

I hope to upgrade in january/febuary... have no monies till then!
maybe that AMD spider stuff will be out by then, will have to wait and see what goodies there are available at the time!
as much as I want a monster powerful PC, I'd quite like it to be quiet this time too... my current one is a noisy bastard

You'd have had a lot better performance getting a single 8800GT 512mb than going 2x 8500GT... SLI is only useful for top end cards, as you will almost *always* get a larger performance increase on one powerful cards than SLI on two weak cards.

Little worried how my PC will handle it, but we'll have to wait and see. I'll consider getting a nice new graphics card for christmas if it doesn't play well :)

Lol, I can't believe someone actually bought 2x 8500GT and put them in SLI.
1x ATI Radeon 3850 would have been better.

Quotin dis for truth. It's usually cheaper to just buy 1 high performance card than to buy 2 low/medium performance cards which give the same performance as the high performance one.
I honestly don't get why people are buying quad cores right now, as it has no real benefit over a dual core as of yet. Yes, in multi-tasking you can see a difference but for games and whatsoever there is just no use for a quadcore. It's cheaper to just get an Intel Core 2 Duo and clock it to 4Ghz or so (very possible if you buy a good cpu and mobo).

Not quite. I've been after it, but every time I check: "Not in stock" or "Overdue", so I didn't order it. I think I'm gonna settle for a GTX instead, because I need a new comp soon before this one melts just running Firefox (The emergency shutoff has kicked in twice today!). -------------------------------------- This character will be terminated on 17/11/2007. I got a 42" plasma (it was going cheap at work) and am considering a new gfx card, can't seem to find one that hits the sweet spot between price and performance.
I have been eye-ing up ATI's new 3870 (sp?), but it has problems with Linux, which I'm kinda thinking about using in the future. My current 8600GTS is kinda okay, but the poor thing has problems with Crysis

Planning to upgrade anyway, but I'm not sure if it will be before Trinity is released.
Also, I hate to say it but 2x 8500 =
Especially with the rest of it being not bad at all.

AMD/ATI has made the drivers for linux opensource, so there really shouldn't be any trouble there really.

ATI has been writing drivers for Windows for years that are not worth a damn. What makes you think the ones for Linux will be any better?

if you're considering the piece of crap that is the CCC, then yes, it is crap, but the core itself is not that bad tbh. Also I've seen more problems with NV drivers than ATI. ---

I know you didn't say you was using a Windows OS but putting 4GB RAM in a Windows OS (unless it's a 64 bit OS) is a waste of time.
I bet you Windows will only see at most 3 GB of it and in some cases not more than 2GB. It gets sucked up by hardware interrupts. -- eve-guides.com Includes all about POSs, outposts, tech II production, item database and much much more. |
