Hello guys.
I just got my Retriever a short while ago and I have some questions. Please help me.
1)Is is possible for me to make 6 million ISK every four hours or less while staying in high sec? As you might have guessed, I am asking this because I need to make an EASY 180mil(for TC) every month without too much effort. If my goal is NOT possible please give it to me straight.
2)I am having serious problems with ore thieves and pirates that constantly harass me and try to provoke me to a fight. I read some guides and I know not to shoot them when they steal, but how can I AVOID them altogether? I read a guide which mentioned scanning for pirates using an onboard scanner but this stuff it a little hard for me to understand at this point. I just want to be left alone while mining. ;)
4)Logistical problems... I find it extremely difficult and time consuming to haul ore to station. When I jetcan, people blow up my cans and steal. If I dont jetcan, I have to either run back to station every time my cargo is full(this can drive a man insane) or use a Giant Secure Container.
GSC still holds too little ore making me run to station every 10-20 min. Still not a good option. Besides, I find it very hard to find a place to anchor my container. Everywhere I go, I see hundreds of GSCs already anchored. Can you give me some tips for finding a good place?
Does everyone have an alt and uses an alt to haul ore? What about people like me who only have enough $$$ for one account? Is it possible for me to mine efficiently?
The way things are right now, is my Retriever is sitting at a station and I cant mine unless I find a way to solve my problems. If the pirates' goal was to prevent me from mining, and deprive me of money they definitely succeeded. :(

You would need to be mining something more valuable than empire based minerals.. Arkanor, Bistot, Crokite.
At the low skill points of a retriever pilot, you are better off getting in a battlecruiser/battleship and ratting in Providence. You can make about 20 million an hour with minimal skills, provided you can solo take-down battleship rats.
Providence is NRDS, meaning you can operate there w/o the local alliance attacking you. You can be targeted by various hooligan organizations, however. With God, All Things are Possible Probable is another matter, entirely. |

1 you can easy make 6 million just do a little research and mine the ore thats at the moment considered best
2 and 4) you really cannot avoid them the good minerals respawn friday and monday look at the map, 05 or 0.6 systems that arnt populated that much on these days and mine there
3) dunno =)
consider joinin a corp that does mining ops so you mine and another one hauls most corps buy the minerals back have maxed refiners and some sort of protection there are even some 0 tax corps out there
or get a second account max research skills for mech eng and sell the datacores will easily get you the GTC for 2 accounts , but will take a few month to get it runnin _______________________________________________ EVEpedia[Deutsch/German] add

Sounds like your main problem is that you are trying to mine in areas that are too populated. A great resource to use to find places to min is the ORE map

Look for a system with a lot of belts and no stations. These systems generally don't get that much traffic - especially if they are a dead end (there is only one gate in the system). In these types of systems you can usually mine into jetcans with no hassle.
The other option is to get another account to serve as a hauler. You just mine into the hauler and only use a can as a transfer device. The most a thief can get is one cycle of ore or a bit more while your hauler makes a run to the station to unload.
Good Luck

You're just in the wrong place. Move into a .5 system and set up camp. On average I mine for 3-4 hours and never see another soul except the occasional, easily dealt with rat spawn.

This guy has the right idea. There are plenty of low population high sec systems where you can mine without worrying about thieves. -------------------

About logistics. If you do not have a dedicated hauler, then Ore Thieves and Griefers is something you have to live with. Train for a Covetor/Hulk asap. Slap two T2 cargo expanders and cargo rigs on them. On a Hulk I believe you can get around 17k m3 with rigs and expanders.

Basicly as said above, you are mining in the wrong place, try mining where theres very few people, where i mine its gotten busyer then before but it is just a highway between 2 regions and noone stops by,no station in system makes it almost dead of miners,so move somewhere else would be my recommendation, and get into a hulk asap and get a large industrial hauler as it will speed up your hauling.

6m in 4 hours is easy enough. At current prices, Kernite > Plag > Veld > Scord > Pyrox > Omber, IIRC. Run the math yourself rather than taking my word for it, though.
Go find yourself a nice, underpopulated 0.5 system, set yourself up and start mining. The rats die easy to 5 light drones, and if you keep a small armor rep on hand you can repair afterwards.
I have very rarely had problems with ore thieves when mining in out of the way systems.
Though I did get my first non-tournament kill off of one. . .
As an aside though, L4 missions >>> empire mining for quick ISK. Cruise Raven, Sentry/Heavy Domi, Passive Drake, it all works. -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |

Get thee away from the trade hubs and starter systems....FAR away. Trade hubs and starter systems and the areas around them are very populated. Populations attracts those who seek to feed off the population.
The higher the population of the system, the less you'll want to play in it. If you can mine with a buddy/corpie, so much the better. A solo miner is easy prey. Several active miners with protection and logistics is a pain in the tail to mess with. Several Macro-miners together is back into the 'fun to mess with' category. Figure it from there. _______________________________

In my hulk, I can mine about 8 mil worth of veldspar/hour, probably more now with my T2 crystals. The Hulk has roughly twice the yield of a retriever, so you could approximate 4 mil an hour, which gives you 16 mil for that 4 hour period...more than enough. Find a system off the beaten path, and mine there, if you want a good place, contact me and I will tell you where to go (dont want everyone and their brother there...)

I agree with all the above. If you would like to find a friendly corp that in no way will constrict you but are still allway's willing to haul for you give me a message in game, we are a mining corp with a nice quiet system we are in an alliance so have few problem's with ore theif's. when i was in a retriever i made over 3.5 mill per hour even the day before respawn of belt's, so im sure you will have no problem in reaching your goal's.

I'd like to add one more voice to the "move to a less crowded system" camp. It's well worth it
