i am frustrated. not because our corp lost 2 carriers today. they are there to be wasted.
no i am frustrated because a former friend i know for maybe 3 years jumped in a cap fleet on top of our 2 carriers to kill us. he was in a domi, a corp mate shot on him and i told in ts and local dont shoot him, he stoped asap, another corp mate repped his domi with his carrier and told him in local that he reps him. the "friend" said hello in local and i did too. i was happy to meet him again after a long time. i always get a smile on my face when i meet old peeps i know for a long time. my next sentence would have been good to see ya how have you been....but...then he popped a cyno and out come a fleet of maybe 4-7 cap ships. ok he wasnt blue but he wasnt red also. he just did what i would do also to anybody. anybody ? no old friends i flew with i wouldnt. i cant. i would feel bad. same bad feeling as if i would be in his position and kill him while he remote repairs me.
the answer in local was like: hey its a game. yes its a game but there are things i just dont do. i dont trick ppl to get a kill or i dont kill friends. if they remote rep. me, hell i couldnt do it.
take away my cash, take away my ships, burn down anything i have. it doesnt matter to me. i waste so many ships it doesnt matter its fun. but if i cant count on ppl i thought i can trust i get frustrated. i want to congratulate you again for the 2 carrier kills noobjuice.
if you think i write this to flame around you are wrong. its just what i feel right now and i hate to realize that honor and friendship gets lost more and more. you might say now wake up toppo you are dreaming and you are a silly idiot - but i dont care - i will do the same again cause there are still ppl out there that play my way of the game and dont think a kill is more worth than a relationship.

It IS just a game though. If you and I were really good friend IRL, I would still kill you in a split second in EVE without remorse, second thought or guilt if I was told to, or if I needed to - It is just how the game works.
Are you saying you wouldn't shoot your friend if you were playing Counterstrike? Seems a little daft to me.
If you quit your friendship over this, then honestly you aren't a very good friend, or for that matter a friend at all.

EvE is not counterstrike. Comparing the two is akin to comparing apples and oranges. Death means nothing in counterstrike as you respawn instantly with no penalty. EvE is very different. It's more like sabotaging a friend's career because it gets you ahead.

Is this in-game friend or RL friend? If it's a RL friend, yeah, it's just a game.
If you mean someone you knew in-game and ran into again on different sides, that I could understand. -

na dont get me wrong. there was never a situation where we shot us. this happend in low sec. and you will agree if you meet a person you flew with and know for long and there is nothing between you that would justify an attack you wouldnt attack him. if the person reomote reps you you truely can see he is friendly. so why shoot then ? only to get the carrier kills. or why say hello toppo in local ? what i dont like at this is that i was there telling my ppl not to shoot him and to rep him cause he was a friend to me and the return is to get attacked. its not about 2 partys at war or in 0.0. Asking me is a bad idea, because even if you gave me all sorts of kindness and we got along well ingame, I'd still kill you without a second thought if I was told to do so, or for some reason needed to.

Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 22/11/2007 23:22:59 Oh my. The age old "But you're my friend!" problem of online gaming.
A story.
My cousin(MY OWN COUSIN!!) and i, played Battlefield, same team, everything was "rocking" as we found superb spots, secret hideouts, tactics.
Then all changed, he switched sides(nooo!) and ofcourse, we were at war. All those tactics we had, suddenly becamse our worst flaws. We hated eachother! We loathed eachother! We shot eachother in the head and stabbed eachother in the back!! And then went to MacD and a movie.
That's, even if it's only battlefield(not EVE), is how you should differentiate games and real life. When it's all said and done, the dust settles, the guns stop blazing and the ships stop burning, be friends, be nice, be human.
It's only data on the internetz
Yes i'm bringing the shades back!
(Also we've taken potshots and accidently blown up/killed eachother with my brother and cousin in various games, including EVE and that type MMOs, all in good evil fun)

oh come on...dont compare cs or bf with eve...you kill anybody in a shooter its a fun game only regarldess on which side.
eve is more. its depth gets ppl together like in no other game. relationships are worth tons or if you are a bad boy you loose everything and can delete your char straight away.

Isnt this exactly what Eve is about? Backstabbing your friends, scams and stealing things, its all part of the game isnt it? You've known him for three years but that cant stop him from wanting to play the game the way he does.

EVE is still a game. No matter how harsh it sounds. The moment you start losing real life things over EVE, be the issue even EVE related, is the moment i bet even CCP sayes "Hey, take a break, honestly."

as an aside
i dont tend to shoot people i know in eve unless im really bored (sorry kessah). this has always worked for me.
even when i pirate i tend to give people their stuff back and give them setup help if their setup sucks.
But.. it is a game and dont take it personally. if their not blue treat as hostile. shoot them first tbh.

Edited by: Paulo Damarr on 22/11/2007 23:41:19 I have a friend in EVE who's been a gaming mate for 3-4 years we have played on many different games and been on opposing sides and clans a few times and even in enemy corps on EVE once.
But it doesn't affect our friendship because we never "talk shop" and we wind each other up good naturedly when it comes to fighting, I guess it comes down to the depth of the friendship.
Hell I would rather be pwned by a mate than someone else. Cloaks!! |

you are mostly all right. you can shoot your friends and get killed and have ****loads of fun.
but maybe you should read closer then you maybe understand what ****es me off so much. you treat somebody kind (remote rep even damn it) not expecting him to attack you and the return is the exact opposite. there was no threat or anything. you just see a good ole ingame friend at a gate you flew with often and you even start a chat..well after a few seconds i stopped typing :)...you think why the hell did he do that. then you think why the hell you ordered remote rep and stated out in local dont shoot him - cause he lands a cap fleet on you. get the point leave the basic how to play eve out :) we all know what neutral means :) Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed filesize of 24000 bytes -Sahwoolo Etoophie ([email protected]) Fury Website |

Many moons ago a player called Istavaan joined a corp. He befriended it's player and rose up through the ranks. He become close friends with the CEO Miriel (iirc) and escorted her prized BS through space.
And then, a fleet jumped in. Istavaan turned upon his CEO, and her incredibley valuable ship (for the day) was destroyed. As that was happening the corporations wallet, and hangars were ransacked of anything of value.
Istavaan and the GHSC Corp had planned this for well over a YEAR. It even made the pages of some popular magazines like PC Gamer.
And thus the harsh harsh universe of Eve was born. You're not the first - you wont be the last.

Im with you on this toppo, i have ex-corp mates that have moved to 0.0 corps, and i'd expect to be fired upon by them if i meet them in 0.0, its fun and part of the game... but a trojan horse which ends in the distruction of expensive caps... not for war but just for the killmails... is a clever tactic, but also a cheap move.

Wouldn't it be just slightly boring if everyone would be honourable? Some people care about their reputation, others don't. While I would generally agree that this kind of act is despicable, the fact that not everybody agrees makes things a little bit more interesting and certainly more complicated, doesn't it? :)

If you are going to kill someone, and then you warp in and you see some guy you know and he tells the others to stop shooting and start repairing your ship, what the hell are you supposed to do, you don't just abandon the plan and go like "nah guys, we couldn't get the carrier kills.. I didn't wanna drop the cyno because there was this guy that I knew from mycousin who had a sisters friends mothers daughters dogs best friend that was there and his mates were nice to me, stopped shooting, repaired me and stuff ok?"
And he didn't trick you, it's not his fault that you tricked yourself, he knew his intentions, he just couldn't tell you and spoil it all..

cheers LH
