The longest that you can use a research slot for is 30 days or 1 cycle which ever is longer.
There are some BPO's that have a research time that is several years long with the intent that nobody would research them. Problem is that someone has submitted one of those BPO's for research.
You can try submitting a petition to get that job cleared out so that queue will return to a reasonable length.

The BPOs that take years to research a single level....well, when someone puts one of those in, it's petitionable. Normal folks going about their business is entirely different. Capital BPOs can take 2 months for a single run, and are legitamate jobs. Let's not waste GM time crying for an open research slot, eh?
Now if you're willing to risk a bit, prepare as you see fit, and browse the low-sec stations. The wait times out there can be down to less than 2 weeks, and the hourly rate is usually *much* less than the backlogged high-sec labs. _______________________________

Risk..this is my main, i don't want to risk it. but the slot i was talking about is 8300 days. Shortest reseach time that's patitionable, i take it as 30*6=180days? As we are at it, what standing do i need to get 100% effecient refining rate at NPC station? both the faction standing and the corp standing please. assume i maximised my skills.
Edit: got it
Originally by: Helen Hunts Refine taxes are determined with your standings with the NPC corp that runs a particular station. Jita has a few stations to choose from. Which corp runs the station you want to refine at?
To get 0% tax on refine, you'll need to build up 6.67 standings with that corp. (it's going to take a while)

I just checked 3 regions, wanted to research a BPO to make ammo, standard missles. Lowest que time I found was 18 days. It's just silly to even try with as a new player.

If your new 18 days is not that long there should be plenty of other stuff for you to do in the mean time. If you have been playing for sometime there are a couple of options open to you.
1) your own POS in high sec.(can be expensive) 2) Join a research alliance with an alt theres plenty about.(relatively cheap)
Just to reiterate 18 days is not along time, if your going to get into manufacturing you will have to get used waiting. The old cliche "Good things come to those who wait" i.e have a bit of patients applys here. This is what I like about EVE-Online it pays to think, have patients and have a strategy rather than just 'slash hack slash' "woot I got an uber drop I win generic MMO" although there is an element of that in this game it has been curtailed quite abit.
Check the forums in the sell orders section or try eve search and joining a research alliance may be your best bet. Good Luck.
