Getting more and more frustrated with CCP after Revelations 2.3
My windows client keeps crashing with "Lost connection" and MS C++ runtime errors after 2 minutes of doing NOTHING on 2 different machines (a home pc and a laptop). My opened Bug report states "Fixed in Kali 3". So I installed the latest Singularity build to at least check the new bells and whistles comming for Kali 3. Guess what. IT CRASHES THE SAME !!!
So after getting into problems with TQ and SG builds on Windows, I told myself let's try the Linux client. I am and old linux user, Gentoo distro etc.
1. Download the installer (freaking tgz ???) 2. Unpack 3. Run installer - nice surprise with the installer actualy 4. Find out installer downloads files into /tmp - get frustrated
I am one of the "maybe" few people that don't run the dumbed down linux installation root+swap. So my /tmp is quite small (however sufficient for my needs). Maybe I am blind, but in the installer instructions, there is NO download location for the EveOnline-linux-######.dat and EveOnline-linux- ######.dat.md5 files.
Also I went over the installer package, and the location is nowhere in the text readable files. There is no documentation how can I set up an alternate temporary directory for the downloaded files.
I'd be very gratefull if somebody could point me to the download locations OR proper installation instructions for the linux client.

Not using Cegeda so can't help. However, if it's always going after the same directory in /tmp then perhaps a quick symlink would get around the issue?
Or just vgextend whatever you've put tmp on?

the symlink will probably work if it creates the same directory ...
vgextend :-)) my install is very old, no lvm/evms

Ehrm wouldnt simply unmounting /tmp fix that problem? Then the files would land in the underlying / partition.

Can you please file a new bug report with logserver-logs and describe how it is crashing?

I did not have the nerve to endure more crashes. It seems to me it is rather connection related. However I had no problems before.
The reply from the bugreport states that it is rather a connection issue and the DEVs are looking into it. I guess it's not my ISP (few friends have the same problems but different ISPs also different HW). So I quietly wait till it gets fixed and get frustrated with Wine in the meantime.
EDIT: Bug report nr 46816. If you realy want me to make the logserver dump, reply here and I'll get to work on it.

Hi.
Try this, it may help.
Players that are suffering a lot of disconnections may be suffering that their ISP, firewall or router is disrupting traffic on port 26000 which is used to connect to the EVE server. If this is the cause of your problems you can change the port to 3724 to see if that helps.
We recommend this port only be used if you are not able to connect to port 26000. Since this is not the official EVE port, support for connection issues will be limited.
In order to use port 3724, it will be necessary to open your C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings folder if you use XP or C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\settings if you use VISTA.
/home/username/.cedega/EVE Online/c_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/settings/ under Linux /Users/username/Library/Preferences/Eve Online/Preferences/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/settings/ under Macintosh.
Edit the PREFS.INI file. Please change the networkAdvanced=0 to networkAdvanced=1. You will notice that the Eve logon screen will now have a PORT option. Please type in 3724 into the box and connect as normal.

Thanks for this info. I'll try.

Does not work. Changed the port. Logged in, changed skill. Connection lost.
Set back to 26000, logged in, opened skill window, checked that skill switch was registered by the server, connection lost.

Btw for a game that apparently is running 100% on the server (ie. the client is just a graphics layer , no brains there) eve seems to be _very_ intolerant of packet loss. If i get any packetloss the connection will drop immediately (although it might not be visible before i try to do something). At the same time many other more demanding games just get a lag spike. Feels odd since i assume eve is using TCP.
