read them (partly) a long time ago, and wish to re-read them but i've forgot the title & author..
think the plot goes as following :
a portal can take people from earth to another world, but its one way so they have no idea really whats on the other side or have the ability to communicate with them there..
on the other side of the portal, theres an alien race who got some kind of powerful way of mind controlling the people who comes through the portal so they becomes slaves.
(i think) theres an resistance who fights the aliens and tries to free as many of the poeple who comes through the portal..
this is what i remember of it, but its been like 12-14 years since i read most of book one, so ive forgot most of it..
if anyone got an idea about the title/auther, let me know :)

came to that conclusion as well... if i remember right the series ran for nine or more books covering the Pliocene exile and then events before and after the exile... a very good read.

4 books in the saga of the exiles, then Inervention (stand alone sortof) and the Galactic Milieu trilogy. Eight in all.
Probably the best books involing psionics, well developed and great plots. Characterisation is complex, the plots are deaply political. Still a legendary read.
As a side note when I was 14 was when I first tried to read them, gave up because it was too dry and complex. When I was 19 my girlfriend and I read them concurrently while camping for 4 weeks, we had only been together 6 months, and we discussed them extensively. In all the time we were camping, which is challenging, especially on a new/young relationship, we only had one actual argument, and it was about the motivation of one of the characters. (been together 16 years now)
I do feel the first 5 books are best and was quite disapointed with the Galactic Milieu trilogy, I suspect that my expectations were too high and I was picking them up on relase day as hardcovers.
