Great models, bad colors.
The Exequror is a huge disapointment in that horrible pastel blue. Galente colors have always been based on a nice shiny green!

Where has gone my gold and white steel vexor? Where is my shiny thorax?
The bad parts are : 1/ Bad blue (look again at the old catalyst, there's a color to take here, this stronger blue was not so bad) 2/ No more unique T1 ships (they're all the same textures)
I understand you had deadlines and mostly focused on the models adding millions of polygons, just tell us if you lacked time for coloring and it will be improved later and you did not choose this strange blue! -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

Here are some more pics taken late last night. Frankly, the Thanatos looks lame next to the Moros or Nyx. It has too much of the lighter gray/silver hull, not enough of the darker color. The Moros can get away with the blue to some degree due to the higher percentage of dark/black hull, as can the Nyx according to the CCP-published screens, but the Thanatos doesn't have enough dark hull to pull it off.
In fact, I think the biggest problem with many of the Gallente T1s is too much of the light-colored hull, and not enough dark. Some of them can handle the blue in moderation if there's enough dark hull. Those with too much light hull only accentuate the pansy blue.
Note the fighter bay greenish glow from the Thanatos. It is a bit less blue, and seems to work better, especially when seen against a dark background.
Oh, and take a close look at the Navitas. It looks much cooler now than I ever remembered the old ship being. I can almost even stomach the blue on it.

I think everything looks fantastic in space -- less so in stations, for some reason.
Whatever the case, I think the overall look would be improved by making the cyan areas less like paint and more like another type of metal. No ship that I can recall has ever looked painted before, and in my opinion with good reason. Paint is just out of place. I think stained metal is as close as we should come. __________________________________________________ 'The illiterate of this century are not those who cannot read and write; but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.' |

No race should have to put up with pastel colors!
The models are very nice though.

Good point there. I wonder how much of their appearance is due to the flat lighting found in stations.
Hopefully, Gallente ships will take on more character in space because in station the matte blue/green is just well... bleh..

Personally, I like the Astarte gold much better than the greens and that awful T1 blue. I also don't care for the green in the Navy Vexor and Deimos camo prints, but I guess they decided only Caldari faction/T2 can have a gold/desert camo pattern.

Edited by: Hyakuchan on 29/11/2007 17:44:28 If CCP wants to force a standard color scheme on Gallente, they should use the OLD CreoDron scheme of silver and green. Or just leave it silver/chrome for all the T1s, like the bare gunmetal of the Caldari. Or the copper green of the Comet.
At least then people would agree that the colors look good and can just argue about whether or not it takes away from the flashiness of the T2s.

Edited by: Natalie Jax on 29/11/2007 18:01:06 Honestly, I kinda like the fact that they're of a consistent color scheme (I just hate the color). However, even the T1 ships could use a little color variation consistent with their stated source-company (CreoDon, etc.).
Another specific ship comment. The Imicus. I always thought the Imicus and Exequror were kinda the black-sheep of the Gallente ship, with their bizzare appendages and unusual shape. While the new Exequror now looks awesome (still unique but in an interesting way), the Imicus still looks like whoever designed it was very, very drunk. I always feel the need to tilt my head a little whenever I fly/see the Imicus.

anyways please change before it hits tq..strip the textures..throw them in photoshop and play with the rgb.sliders a bit till you get a bit more buffy colour, then slap them back on and let us (the masses) approve it ___________

I wonder how long it takes for a Dev to alter the colors. Certainly it doesn't take more than 1 hour to do all this work and put it up for download.

Not all of the Gallente ships got raped by the new skins and models. Below are the tech II ones that are damn sexy.
Ares Deimos Enyo Nemesis Phobos
The Eris may look okay as well once they skin the search light.
Unfortunately the Arazu, Lachesis, Ishkur, Ishtar, Taranis, Astarte and Eos all look like crap. Also disliking the new model they stuck in for the Rook and Falcon.

All the server has to do for a ship is pass several sets of 3 ints to each player to describe each player's ship on the grid. It's your pc that figures out how to draw them.
Ok, so say we have two player ships on a grid.
In EVE as it is now, each player's pc gets the identity of the other ship type and consults the hard drive to find out the color scheme. In the proposed way, that color scheme copy would have an alpha channel that allows the server to tell the client what color to draw in that location. So, it's like the server tells me:
"The alpha channel for this player's ship should be blue." And my pc says, "Ok, I'll draw it as blue."
If there's only one player adjustable color, that means, theoretically, only 24 bits need to be sent to define that ship's color. In computing that's next to nothing.
The server does many times the work just telling your computer the NAMES of the players you can see in space.
If there were 22,000 color options... you don't even need 24 bits. You can send that information in 15 bits (2^15 is 32768), so having an index of colors to choose from would make it even cheaper.
Each player in space would simply have a "color" variable that gets sent along with their name and such.

I don't mind the model, they are all great.
I also don't mind the color.... individually. The lack of highlight is fine, no light is fine, changes are all fine. It is up to the taste of person
But as a whole they are terrible!
Vexor - used to be silvery, now pastel blue Dominix - used to be brown, now pastel blue Megathron - used to be organic brown, pastel blue as well Thorax - Black and blue, now pastel blue Exequour - dark green-ish, now also pastel blue All the frigates - used to be all different color, now all pastel blue
the list goes on...
... and the problem isn't that they have changed color, the problem is that they are all exactly the same color now!
I used to use color to tell the different of the ships, but I guess we can't do that anymore!

This concern about color to identify ships is dead on. It's like how you can see the little bit of red trim on an Absolution in the little overview picture. Knowing whether you're attacking a prophecy or an absolution is kind of an important detail, as one sucks and the other will reach down your throat and pull out your soul.

I wanna add my 2 cents.
On the models : Fcking great work guys!
On the colours : WTF have you guys been smoking ?
Megathron -> looks great , but the baby blue is getting old really fast ( and i mean REALLY in less then a day i got sick of the colour)\ Dominix -> way to make a bad looking ship look even worse Hyperion -> not much change here , and again blue Vexor -> Why in gods name would you get rid of that great bronze/gold look and make it baby blue ?
And to keep the whine going a lil more , why in gods name are the mining barges and exhumers squared up like that ?
On the whole it really looks great but for the love of god get rid of the baby blue!!!

Yes, part of the greatness of flying gallent ships is they all were different colors and had different looks to them. That has been taken away!
Not only that but the Astarte barely looks different than a Brutix. I want to look at my screen and know I took the time to learn to fly one!

Edited by: Kokkoro on 02/12/2007 03:21:59 So after looking at a few ships the Vindicator is the only one that looks any better. The Astarte and Deimos now look like vomit with better models. New models - Thumbs up, new colors - WTF? CCP please pick some different colors, I know you aren't blind, look at the damn ships, do you think we really want Gallente: Pastel Space Bunnies Online?
EDIT: OMG I just looked at the Dominix... I'm just going to cancel my 3 accounts lol. Yes the colors are that bad.
