I am getting half the FPS in linux that I get in windows, will this ever improve? Is it the engine or cedega or some setting? I followed the performance improving guide for configuring the ccp provided cedega client (in addition to things known in windows, for instance, turning off sound, occulated by sun, damage messages, etc) and still my FPS are half that of windows.
Will this ever been optimized?

Personally on my system, my performance at 1900x1200 fullscreen is sometimes = to or BETTER than it was under XP. (this could be, of course that the driver set is more optimized than in my XP days.)
Now, ALL of that said, if you are using an NVIDIA 8xxx card, AND you are only on the 100.14.19 and lower drivers, you are DEFINITELY going to have problems with frame rate as there are serious KNOWN issues with the 8x series cards and those drivers. NVIDIA has released the 100.23 drivers to fix some of these issues, and has also released the new 169.04 BETA which fixes a ton of problems with the newer geforce cards.
If you are using an older cpu (single core 32 bit) then you are definitely NOT going to have 'native' performance.
Trinity with its newer "engine" (not gfx) should also alleviate a lot of the performance issues on the nix/mac side as well. This is all depending upon hardware/video of course, but my wine tests have shown much better FPS with the new engine.

Using Wine my framerate is pretty much the same as Eve under Windows.
With Cedega it was, as you pointed out, about half that.
Something to consider.

Do you use the wine implemented dll's, or do you load the native window dll's?

Edited by: Lira Reib on 29/11/2007 12:43:08 Well that was neat. I (8600 GT) installed the 169.04 beta drivers and my frame rate increased by about 60%.
If I can actually run the Trinity shinies at any point, I will never want anything ever again.

Is there a guide that someone can link on installing the beta drivers for Ubuntu? Currently running kubuntu 7.10 w/ the Nvidia 100.xx drivers using a 8xxx series card. The frame rate leaves something to be desired.

Careful with the betas. I'm on an 8800gts and I (yesterday) had to back down to the 100.23 drivers due to some serious ****age with the betas.
That said, here is the guide you need to install them: Fiesty instructions. choose method 2 for manual installation.
Though this is the "fiesty" install, it (method #2) works with gutsy as well.
