Good man.
My personal favourite tale is the story i heard from 04/05 of a taliban attack down the side of a hill which had been times JUST as a howitzer battery was testing their guns.

My clock currently says it's about 11:03pm. I am still at work. I have been here twelve hours. I think it's about time that I go home and probably pass out.
Tomorrow, I'm going to try to withdraw money I don't have from the bank so I don't starve for the next two weeks. That should be fun. |

On a normal week, yes. This week, since I missed two days due to BS with the car.. no. I'll likely be pulling OT over the weekend, though. |

Kyseth wrote:Those are some pretty axes. My first was a B.C. Rich Mockingbird (love that one so much). I know what you mean about not being able to play one you love. I can't even play the Mockingbird now due to a crappy bridge problem, but it's not going anywhere because it was my first guitar. The ones I have up are my black Fender DG-60 and my Black Cherry ESP LTD M-100FM. They aren't the highest dollar axes but they've suited me just fine.
I had thought about using them to get me through this patch, then maybe switch to a bass later when I have things under control again.
I think I still have a couple days to figure something out.. Thanks. I hope everything works out for you.
BC Rich Mockingbird's are good guitars, great sound and style without needing a bunch of bells and whistles. Old guitars in excellent condition are worth big bucks. I'm talking about the face, neck and body. Fret boards, Hardware (Bridge) and electronics are easily replaceable.
Back when I had the Rich Bich 10 String I'd jam with a guy who had a white Mockingbird. I'd play my rhythm's and he'd play lead. A friend of his was a drummer in a punk rock band (played drums like Neil Pert of Rush) who loved to jam with us on the side. He said the music allowed him a lot of versatility for playing lead drums.
Fender has always made good acoustic guitars but they're like Timex watches, they take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. As such there's a lot of them around which doesn't bode well for resale. But like I said before, old guitars in excellent condition are worth big bucks.
The LTD series is somewhat of a newer line for the ESP company. Basically good production line guitars. I got the F-200 series as a test model when it was still a prototype, about 6 months before it went into mass production. I like ESP guitars, they are comfortable, lightweight, good sound and above all else, affordable. I bet the Black Cherry looks excellent.
With today's economy even the high quality guitars aren't selling for what they're worth. The market wants pristine condition tagged as vintage but priced like second hand equipment. Believe me, only sell the music equipment as a last resort.
Hell, if need be, take the acoustic downtown, open up the case in front of you and start playing music. People passing by will toss money into it with no questions asked.

That last statement brings back some sweet memories I have as a young guitar player. Sorry for the wall of text.
Back in the early 80's I went to the Hospital with my girlfriend to visit her female friend. While walking down the hall to her room, all of the doors were closed except for one. Inside was a guy with his leg in a cast, watching TV and strumming a guitar. My girlfriend's friend had a room further down the hall which was a non smoking room. After a while I decided to go have a smoke which was allowed down the hall in a small waiting area, back past the room with the guy and guitar.
Needless to say I stopped by the guy's door, said hello and asked if I could enter since I saw him playing the guitar earlier when passing by. He said yes, told me I could smoke in his room, picked up his guitar and started playing it again, very basic beginner stuff. After a while I asked if I could play it which he said yes. I started jamming away and when he asked if I could sing, I said 'No I can't sing and play'. His reply was 'What, you can't chew gum and walk at the same time?' His reply inspired me to work at being able to sing and play guitar at the same time. Anyway, a little later two guys and a girl showed up at his door, the friends he was waiting for. I started to give the guitar back when they all insisted I keep playing. They had heard the music down the hall and liked what they heard.
After a few more songs I see my girlfriend at the door looking surprised and smiling. After she was invited in and introduced, I said thanks to the guy for letting me play his guitar and then him and his friends all thanked me for playing it. My girlfriend told me after a while she started wondering what happened to me since I had been gone for a long time. When she opened the room door to go find me, she heard my music down the hall and knew I was playing the guys guitar. She didn't expect to see other people inside enjoying my music.
A couple of weeks later was in a Shopping Mall with my girlfriend who wanted to go into a Women's Apparel store. I decided to go have a smoke in the Mall Center (smoking was allowed back then in the early 80's). While I was smoking, a guy walked up with a beat up guitar case and asked for a cig. I asked about the guitar inside the case which he took out and started playing, very basic beginner stuff. After asking if I could play it, he handed me the guitar and I started jamming on it. After a couple of songs he asked if he could make up words and sing along which I said sure. Next thing we know people are gathering around us, enjoying the music and tossing spare change into the open guitar case. After a few more songs I see my girlfriend making her way through the crowd towards me. I finished playing the song, thanked the guy for letting me play his guitar who then thanked me for the cig and the sing along.
My girlfriend said she came out of the store, looked around for me but couldn't see me anywhere. Then she heard my music and knew I had found a guitar to play. She just followed the sound and was surprised as hell at the crowd of people all gathered around me, applauding and enjoying the music.
There was a few more situations like that but I think you get the idea. Basically I'd go somewhere with my girlfriend, a guitar makes it presence known, I'd play for a crowd of people, girlfriend hears my music while looking for me, later I thank the people and leave with my girlfriend who is both surprised and pleased. She never got mad at me, would just smile and say no matter where we went, I always seemed to find a guitar to play. I would just smile back and say no, the guitars find me to play.
