Another space race would be great on so many levels you wouldnt believe. It would give the world the same boost the New World gave to Europe.
The amount of data we have crunched on this is insane. The money is certainly there and so is the interest. Its just a hell of a lot harder than jumping on a ship and going west.

Yeah. It reminds me of the original teaser for "Avatar" that didn't have any footage from the actual film (and had a release date that was changed to 7 months later). *Sigh* Stupid Christmas
Just crunched the numbers and for only the second time in my eve career I am going to have to let my sub laps (the fist time was by mistake )
With all the commercialization around this time of year and having limited financial resources...which is compounded by the fact I am not getting anywhere close to the amount of hours compared to other years. I dont see any foreseeable way that I can come up with the $40 USD for my 3 month sub which is due up in 7 days
Now just to be clear I am not looking for handouts or to take advantage of anyone's generosity because I know a few of you are probity thinking that is why I am telling you.
The reason is I just wanted LAGL to know what is up if I just vanished in 7 days and stopped posting suddenly. |

Finished watching a short series on Netflix called "Prophets of Science Fiction". It's only 8 episodes but is quite thorough. It's produced by and occasionally narrated by Ridley Scott.
The episodes are: Mary Shelley, Philip K. D**k, HG Wells, Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Jules Verne, Robert Heinlein, and George Lucas.
The final one with Lucas I don't agree with as far as inclusion. For the intentions of the series and it's theme, Gene Roddenberry is way more of an appropriate choice than Lucas.
I was just really impressed with it, especially since someone so rarely does this kind of thing for SF. "He has mounted his hind-legs, and blown crass vapidities through the bowel of his neck."-á - Ambrose Bierce on Oscar Wilde's Lecture in San Francisco 1882 |

Would it not just be better to let private companies take care of human spaceflight at least?
NASA seems to have its head up its ass for human space flight, Russia has a good, reliable and relatively cheap system with Soyuz. and of course SpaceX (a private space company) is well on its way to be able to launch people into LEO. People, who talk, don't know. People, who know, don't talk. |
