NASA seems to have its head up its ass for human space flight, Russia has a good, reliable and relatively cheap system with Soyuz. and of course SpaceX (a private space company) is well on its way to be able to launch people into LEO.
I believe NASA is rarin' to go.
They have just been de-funded over the years to the point of irrelevancy, thanks to a Congress that rapidly does not believe in education or science at all. Yeah thats true, I forget about their shoestring budget.
I'd love to see what NASA could do with even a fraction of the Defense budget. Hell I bet they could come up with a spaceplane in the next 20 years. The Air Force currently has a small reusable shuttle like craft that no one really knows much about. I guess thats where some of the talent and money went. People, who talk, don't know. Absolutely, just the byzantine red tape requires government backing. And governments currently have their collective panties in a bunch over the whole thing.
Look what happened when they defunded a bunch of NASA programs 2 years ago, their labs shut down and all their techs headed west with the private ventures or the ESA resulting in a loss of tax revenue for that state. Cant remember the state, my mind keeps saying Kentucky but that cant be right.
You'd be surprised how much red tape has been holding back space exploration. When it came to the Americas it was either with full government backing for the Spanish / Portuguese or "gtfo" for the British. "I think you should buy a new Mayan calendar. Mine has muscle cars on it." --áKenneth O'Hara

Allot of people (Buzz Aldrin) for the privatization of the space program, Just look at this quote from him.
"I believe that space travel will one day become as common as airline travel is today. I'm convinced, however, that the true future of space travel does not lie with government agencies -- NASA is still obsessed with the idea that the primary purpose of the space program is science -- but real progress will come from private companies competing to provide the ultimate adventure ride, and NASA will receive the trickle-down benefits." BUZZ ALDRIN, Magnificent Desolation
He is over all pretty critical of the whole NASA space program that quote is just one of many. But I think until the tech becomes more main stream NASA and other government agencies are the way to go. I have found this Petition sight with the goal of having the US Government raise NASA's budjet to one penny for every tax dollar (hence the name) http://www.penny4nasa.org |

In the past I've been forced into not having access to this game as well. However, it wasn't due to not being able to pay for the sub, it was due to not being able to pay the ISP. Out of my +5 years in this game, I've got about 9 months total of being off line with 4 months being the longest period of time.

That usually ends in a spectacular and fiery crash.
The number one killer for me in helicopters is the transition to "in ground effect" where the downwash bounces of the ground and effects the helicopters lift. Lots of pedal, cyclic and collective adjustment is needed. You are always fighting the torque from the rotor, especially when flying slow where there is lack of aerodynamics on the airframe.
Vortex Ring State is not fun to get into.

Haha, now I've never actually piloted a helicopter before. But I have rode in quite a few. Its quite unsettling if you're not used to it. Especially in rapid descents on the verge of VRS and the whole thing starts to shake.
