This thread is where the Disciples of Ston will post their musings and ponderings involved in their work and mission in this Cluster. As the Founder and CEO of the Corporation, Disciples of Ston, I have been asked to take the administrative duty of opening this thread here on the new forumn. While I am not a Disciple myself, I will from time to time report here as well. The current Disciples are Ston Momaki, Manwe Todako, and Dawn Aranu.
How did I come to be the founder and CEO of this corporation? I began my career as a champion of the minmatar cause and was eagerly running missions for Minmatar corporations and groups. Then I became disillusioned at the lack of integrity in the agents I served. They asked me to engage in senseless and meaningless acts of violence that violated my conscience. I quit my last mission before completing it.
I began to wander in Caldari space, not really knowing what I wanted to do. I ran across this pilot in Piekura name Ston Momaki. He was doing the strangest things; stealing little things then talking to the pilots he stole from about such things as greed, possession, and violence. At first, I thought, "who is this "space Buddha?" Then I got to thinking about the pressure in this cluster on capsuleers to do certain things certain ways. I thought about the "expectation of violence and accumulation." I struck up a friendship with Ston. I asked him if he was interested in organizing his work via a corporation. I always wanted to start a Corp but never had and idea of what it would do until then.
Since Ston could not start a corp himself, I said that I would do it for him and help finance his work within limits. He could set the rules for membership as long as he understood that I wasn't cut out for his degree of non-violence and non-accumulation. He agreed. I also insisted on picking the name of the Corp. Since he always seemed to invite harassment from others, I thought I would help him along by naming the Corp "Disciples of Ston." The name itself gives him a whole set of issues to deal with in relating to other pilots. That has been fun to watch.
We have one office, our HQ located in the House of Records in Korama. Located there is also the Clone body return service. Ston can tell you about that. Manwe has worked primarily in Minmatar space but has also been involved in stellar core research. He can give details. We operate on very little ISK; just what we need to pay the rent, train the Disciples and marginally equip them. We have receive donations, for which we are grateful and I provide ISK from time to time from my own pocket.

Dear Captain Khross, Thank you for your sincere sentiment. I most heartily agree. Our most productive relationships are found in the atmosphere of disagreement with civility. As it is said, "as iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." much peace to you Captain Khross.
P.S. The company you are helping in your new corp has always shown the Disciples the most courteous hospitality. We began with our HQ in their Peace Corp Assembly plant in Piekura. They were a most cordial people. May your efforts help bring peace and security to this Cluster. |

So this is where I am to report now? OK. Today was spent in learning and attempting to map the Frarn stellar core. This system is very difficult do to the placement of navigation points, however my time in New Eden has shown me a peculiar way to improvise and get a nice nap while you are at it. You know when you fall asleep in your egg and the emergency nav fail safes take over warping you out of the nav lanes into dead space? That process often gives you a transecting line between nav points and celestial bodies. It was how ai was able to map the New Eden Stellar core and it got me within 17,000 KM of the Frarn core today. I am going to "take another nap" tomorrow to see if I can get even closer.
Edaine says that I have to tell how I came to be a Disciple of Ston. Do I have to? Alright, but not right now, I'm tired. |

WOULD THAT ALL WARS BE AS THIS ONE
Rosie's Chub Club Retracts War Against Disciples of Ston From: CONCORD Sent: 2011.09.07 02:33
The war between Rosie's Chub Club and Disciples of Ston is coming to an end. Rosie's Chub Club has retracted the war against Disciples of Ston. The war will be declared as being over after approximately 24 hours.
I want to thank Ms. Goodman for doing more than perhaps she realized. Your declaration of war and our meeting in the stellar core of Piekura was more than just a part of a unique encounter between people, but a lesson to the whole capsuleer community.
This was a "war" where no shot was fired and the sides enjoyed conversation not killing. Would that all wars be like this war. Would that the declaration of war be simply an invitation to conversation and a dare of one party to be trusted by the other. Imagine if wars were to take this form.
Imagine a society so at peace and so adverse to violence, that even its wars were peaceful.

While I agree with you Ston that all wars should be with words rather than guns, we all know its an impossible dream. There are many reasons why we can cite for this, but most notably one that you know all too well...
Even in an idelic world, people will always have disagreements. People are simply going to want the same things, or believe in different things, whatever the reason, conflict will emerge. While true, words could solve most conflicts, humanity has a habit of not properly considering the other side. Either by dismissing their arguments, ignoring their feelings, or simply not caring, this is a trap most people can fall prey to.
When dealing with two sides that will not and cannot move in the issue, violence becomes the only option for either to have their way... Perhaps to make the point clear let us consider the following story. Like any parable, you must consider that the confines of the story are in fact true, there is no easier way to solve the differences.
There are two men who live on a small island together. Both of which lived in harmony for quite some time, sharing food and resources and both being quite happy. One day a massive storm strikes the island and destroys most of the plants and animals whom support the two men, leaving just enough resources for only one to live (although barely). If they where to share they would certainly both die. What can they do?
Their options are limited: Both die, They could die together by basically commiting suicide together. One could die for the other, by commiting suicide. Fight to the death, there is no other way.
For those concerned the options boil down to I die I die I live.
What option would life itself pick? |

Ms. Goldcore,
I appreciate that your parable represents one of those most difficult quandaries we find ourselves in as humans. However, I also know that you are a woman of faith and that your faith is probably the single greatest asset you have in overcoming fear, even the fear of death.
You and I have differences that to those without faith might see as sufficient for war or violence. But I believe in hope that both of us would be willing to give our lives for each other in spite of those differences. Greater love has no one than this, that he give his life for a friend, but even greater love is shown that while yet enemies, one would give his life for another.
I think the greatest power we wield as a culture is not our theology of war, but our theology of peace.
I like your parable, because it affords the reader an opportunity to place him or herself within it as one of the characters. What do you think Thgil Goldcore and Ston Momaki would do if they were the characters in your parable?

however...
Put us both on the island, starving and seeing the end come... then ask the question, answers may be a bit different.
Also, in real life one isn't fighting just for themselves, but fighting for their love ones. It becomes alot more of a gray area in which case its abandon your friends or fight the stranger. |

Your question raises a topic of the deepest grief and joy that still resides in my heart even after these many long ages. I will tell the full story at some time on these pages, but for now I will share that I have long been bereft of my family. My dear one T'Pring and our progeny long ago faded into the eons of time. We were pioneers of space travel and exploration even before the changing of all things. Even longer has been the time when I enjoyed a mentoring, loving, wise father and mother. I am the last of my family line. Who they were is a big part of who I am.
I have family yet that is not blood but brothers and sisters by adoption, if you will. My faith identifies even an enemy as a brother or a sister if not actually, then potentially. This present family brings both the joys and the sorrows that any family relationship might bring.
You too, I consider a member of my human family; a sister of potential becoming, Ms. Goldcore. |

I almost hate to post here. I feel like I am interrupting a conversation. I do need to keep up the discipline of this log though, boring though it may be. Today I was struck by the sheer length of commitment that may training involves. I need to be prepared to pilot a swift and invisible ship with the ability to move relatively unseen, yet unarmed through hostile space. There are many skills that need to be fully trained to get to where I need to be. This is going to take a long time. I am managing to close the gap to the Frarn stellar core. I am feeling no particular hurry since I have a lot of time on my hands while I train. I passed on a contact to Ston today, that I hope will be significant in our ongoing mission as Disciples of Ston. Hopefully the opportunity pans out. Time will tell and so will we when we more information to share. In the next few days, I will also be revealing the name of the new ship we will be using in low, null, sub null space in time. |

SECOND CEREMONIAL CREMATION
Today I performed our second ceremonial cremation in the beautiful bright blue star of Jita. It was a tranquil experience in a system that can be anything but tranquil. Just moments after the ceremony was concluded, I was heading back to Jita 4-4 when at the exit bay, there was another clone body, spinning and tumbling among the exiting traffic. What a sad and undignified way to see this remnant of humanity. I collected the body. It will remain in quiet repose until its final disposition is decided. We are glad to say that every pilot whose body we have recovered and who permits communication has been contacted. Some pilots do not permit us to send a message. These pilots have been listed in our log from time to time.
I am currently waiting to be contacted by the pilot Manwe mentioned above. He is not currently available, but I will wait here many days before moving on. This is a potential opportunity unprecedented if it works out.

A SEMINAL DAY
The happenings of the last couple days, culminating with the opening of the Emancipation and Matriculation center have opened the door for our organization to make practical strides in fulfilling our ideals and values.
We have recently heard reports of slaves being jettisoned in containers on the borders of free and Empire space. These slaves are left to die or to be picked up by unscrupulous traders or... they are rescued by pilots brave enough to care for these unfortunates until they can be matriculated into free society.
415 former slaves who entered our center today were well cared for by the pilot who brought them. He had fed them well, clothed them well, and taken care of their medical needs. There are people of deep values in this cluster. We met one today.
Our hope is that others will follow in his steps. We also hope that free sovreignties will provide the mechanics needed for organizations such as our to liberate rescued slaves and legally change their status so that we can transport them without being considered slave traders by customs officials.
The Gallentean and Minmatar governments need to put actions to words on this sooner rather than later.

RELIABLE INTELLIGENCE
We have been pleased to receive reliable intelligence that has led to the rescue of five slaves from certain death. Reports came to us that slave running pilots were setting their slaves adrift in flimsy jet cans on the borders of Caldari and Amarr space. THese slave have just two hours to live in such conditions if not rescued. We were able to rescue five such slaves recently.
When I brought them aboard my ship, they were fearful that, as a Caldari I might be intent on selling them. When I told them of our Emancipation and Matriculation program and that they were soon to join a community of freed slaves is they so wished, their countenance changed and hope lit in their eyes.
I do not have the name of the pilot responsible for setting these slaves adrift, but I do have the name of the corporation. I do not know if this corporation would approve of pilot doing such a thing. So, let us leave any discipline in the hands of the "Sum Ting Wong" Corporation. I would hope that corporation policy would not smile upon such activity.

We have opened a Emancipation and Matriculation center in a second location and have enrolled ten former slaves there. We anticipate steady growth in the number of residents in this center. In spite of these challenges, all of the slaves we have freed are just glad to be alive at this point.

TWO PLACES AT ONCE
We need more disciples; that, or I need to be at two places at once. There was a time when The Disciples of Ston just kind of did what we wanted; talked to people, got shot at, etc, etc. Now, we are feeling responsibility, the kind that goes with taking our values seriously.
I have two cremations that I need to perform back in the Jita area, but I also need to attend to rescue operations elsewhere. I cannot do both at once. The cremations can wait for a while, but I need to honor the requests of the pilots involved. One of these pilots gave a substantial sum in support of our work. For this we are grateful. In fact, I will be performing a second cremation on a second clone body from this same pilot.
Have you ever been to a birthday party for a 7 year old girl? Girls that age have a pitch to their voice that can crack your jaw, albeit squeals of delight. I attended such a party today at one of our centers. Yesterday, this girl almost didn't make it to 7 years old. Today, she is looking at many years of positive potential. We have just begun a process that may take years of commitment and service to these former slaves. It is worth the effort even to see this one little girl see her seventh birthday and beyond.

CHILDREN, PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS, ALL OF THEM BRAVE
Today, we rescued 38 slaves from a single jettisoned can. I was flying only a frigate and had room for only 23 passengers on my first run. The structural integrity of the container was unknown. I had to decide who would go and be brought to safety and who would stay until I could return. What happened next was amazing. All 38 immediately volunteered to stay. This included children. It was a moving sight. Three generations were represented in this group as well as a group of single male slaves. The problem was solved when the Elders of the group, the grandparents, pulled rank and said, GÇ£The Elders and the single men shall stay behind.GÇ¥ 23 were delivered to our center in an adjacent system. Thankfully, the container held together and I was able to return for the 15 that had stayed behind. We now have a total of 48 at our second location.

My planetary operation managers have surveyed a beautiful temperate planet. The weather patterns are unusually calm and predictable. The resources are plentiful. We are beginning the process of shutting down operations in Piekura and will be preparing to move all three planet side operations to this new region. In fact, the same system has several planets that we will be surveying in the coming weeks. I will keep the Disciples updated as to the progress. We will not say where at this time. It appears that the Emancipation and Matriculation centers are growing rapidly enough that by the time we are ready it will be a good time to establish a planetary base.

SHOCKED WHEN I SHOULDN'T BE
Since my original post that I had labored on disappeared into cyberspace, I decided to treat it as practice and start over on the events of the last few days. It started when we rescued another group of slaves. This time, when I looked up the registry of the container, it belonged to a Vherokior. I was shocked, so I contacted the pilot and asked why he had jettisoned 38 humans into space to die. He responded with two messages, one daring me to cross the border with those slaves and the other threatening to stick a weapon up a certain area of my body. Why was I shocked that a Minmatar would be engaged in the slave trade? Perhaps it is because I have known Vherokior who I would describe as noble, honest, brave, principled, and faithful. Perhaps I would assume no Vherokior would trade in slaves, much less kill them like they are bugs under foot. What a wrong assumption.
SURPRISE WHEN I SHOULDN'T BE
That leads to some other wrong assumptions. One of the slaves we rescued was a young man named Tobias. He will be in my memory as long as I live. Long story short, he expressed the desire to be given to a benevolent Holder so that he could further his enlightenment in the faith. He was sure of his conviction and he asked for my help. I thought immediately of Ms. Goldcore and her family. Arrangements were made and Tobias has become a servant in their household. Ms. Goldcore was gracious to give me a choice to tour any of their facilities on their home planet. This I did. I am confident that Tobias will freely live the life he wishes to live. I would not be surprised to here that the Goldcore family may one day offer him his freedom; a freedom he would say he already has; a freedom to serve and pursue faith. Not all holders are the same. While most understand this, we need to say it now and them. Prejudice comes in many forms.
I wish to thank Tobias for bringing and abolitionist and a Holder together in a shared purpose, to honor the wellbeing and life wishes of a slave rescued from death in space. It is quite humbling.
Lesson: Let us hold our opinions just a little lighter than we think we should. And, beware lest our convictions lead us to prejudice and false judgment. Surely I have been guilty of that.
My gratitude to the Goldcore family. Your hospitality was open and cordial. I believe you to be honest people. |

Ston, Don't go native on me.
What I mean is this...
Apply the principles you are learning with as complete an evenness as you can. Just as not all Vherokior are like me or like the slave trader you met, not all Holders are like the Goldcore family. Not all slaves are like Tobias. Let the testimony of the slaves you rescue temper your interactions with Ms. Goldcore. I am glad for families like her's but don't be naive about the whole of the Amarr institution of slavery.
One instance of either a positive or negative should never be used to generalize the whole. Use the the broadest possible testimony. Careful, lest you become enamored by any one representative.
For example, just as the slave trader does not represent the Vherokior as a whole, neither do I. Many Vherokior are pagans; I am not. I am a monotheist. I do not subscribe to Amarr monotheism; nevertheless I am a monotheist. I am not a typical escaped slave. I am not a typical Vherokior. None should generalize from my example.
Nor should you generalize from Ms. Goldcore's example. Does the Goldcore family represent a typical Holder? I am not here to make that judgement, nor should you, Ston. My Holders were nothing like the Goldcores but that doesn't mean that I should generalize my experience across the board. Accept her for her own sake and not in the stead of anyone else. That is what I mean by not "going native."
Yes, grow in experience, but keep your philosophical head about you. You still need to be able to evaluate slavery as a whole while acknowledging that some Hodlers are benevolent and kind people. Can you do that? I'll see you in a bit. |

Manwe, a good place to search would be the border systems between the Amarr Empire and other regions of space, where slavery is illegal: it seems likely that pilots would jettison contraband substances of all sorts, including slaves, there.

I would imagine that many slaves may be left on the field of battle, along with many other survivors, in minmatar space where capsuleer's conduct missions for agents. Since picking up the slaves would result in a crime, and most capsuleers don't take the time to sort out survivors.

I appreciate Manwe picking up the rescue work. I do hope that you have success in expanding your search, but don't get too far away from where successful rescues have already occurred.
