$136.40. Great. That works out at ú66.
Go into the subscription tool and it wants me to pay in EUR and wants EUR131.40 Hmm... that's about ú95.
Even with a 17.5% vat etc that doesn't work out well...

It's because the USD gets more worthless by the minute. For some of the more expensive stuff, it's actually cheaper for people here (Denmark) to fly half way across the world to the US and buy it there than it is here.
Low USD value = comparatively lower prices as their prices don't go up much. Sucks for all corporations trading in USD, though.

What a silly thing to say. It doesn't cost CCP any more to serve a customer in the US than it does one in the UK.
What would you say if you went to the bar in Barcelona and they charged you more BECAUSE you were from London?
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

Its pretty simple tbh, I fyou live in Europe you have to pay Eur and pay VAT , CCP doesnt have a choice its European law, if they didnt do it they would not allowed to operate within the EU.
its not CCP's fault its the EU.

they have employees in many countries. those employed people receives a salary. they are probably working in a office which cost a rent too... and i am not sure where the eve server cluster is actually based, but they most probably have several different servers (even if just secondary) spread over the world, which require hosting service. THEN, they have to deal with every countries taxes and a large ETC. we players might not see, but are still there.
so, your counter argument is clearly flawed.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.
CCP are ripping off their their European customers. They should make the pre-tax price of their product the same regardless of whether it is priced in Euros or the once mighty dollar.
CCP have to decide whether they will increase the dollar price and so have the yanks moaning like little babies. Or reducing the Euro price and take a revenue hit. Or a bit of both so taking a revenue hit and having whining yanks.

it's mainly the weak US dollar - they get it cheap becuase of it's exchange rate - also they don't pay VAT either.
now - you can buy ETC from shattered crystal if you want and then don't moan.

Another one of these posts because there is a new blog? And the new blog doesn't have "comments" like the rest of them do.
Originally by: Moni Toimikone Go buy 90d gtc's with USD from shatteredcrystal or some other store.
I do this; I haven't paid for a subscription for a year or so now... but my last 90 days is about up and this "offer" pops up... shame it's so poor.
Originally by: Tzun Su Its pretty simple tbh, I fyou live in Europe you have to pay Eur and pay VAT
And in my original post I said "even with VAT"; for the UK that's 17.5% but the difference between the cash amounts is approximately 30% and since CCP set both the EUR price and the US$ price they are adding a chunk on.
Originally by: Kayna Eelai they have employees in many countries. those employed people receives a salary. they are probably working in a office which cost a rent too... and i am not sure where the eve server cluster is actually based, but they most probably have several different servers (even if just secondary) spread over the world, which require hosting service.
Do they? I'm only aware of the London cluster, the folks working at WhiteWolf in the US (who were already there doing WhiteWolf stuff) and Iceland. Which other countries are things done in? I imagine they pay the London folks in GBP. So allow us to fund in GBP and we'd be paying they directly - I'm sure me paying in Euros means there are extra currency conversion costs that CCP are having to bear (into Iceland Krona - ISK)
Originally by: RaTTuS now - you can buy ETC from shattered crystal if you want and then don't moan.
I do. But IIRC technically Shattered Crystal should be charging us for VAT as well since they are supplying goods to a European resident.
Even if they did charge the extra it still doesn't reflect the uplift between EUR and US$ that is in the CCP charge. It's not like America isn't affluent... biggest economy in the world and all that... so why do they get a discount?

If you buy ANYTHING in the EU, you can expect to pay more than if you buy elsewhere, even exchange rates aside.
And it's not the USA that's 'getting a discount' It's non-EU countries, which is by far the majority of the world. When the game was released the Euro was only slightly more valuable than the USD, now since the USD has crashed, it's not as if anyone in the EU has all of a sudden been paid alot less, or anyone in the USA has earnt alot more. The only people anywhere that have gained benefit are people not in the USA but paying with USD, which strangely includes alot of Euro players, and people in poorer countries.

This. It's cheap here too and I ain't in the US. Sounds like the UK's getting a tad ripped off by a combination of factors along with CCP not really caring.

UK seems to pay a premium on a lot of tech goods and entertainment products. Compare the price of an Xbox 360 or a PS3 in Britain and in the rest of Europe?
They might have equalised now, but when the PS3 launched it was ú100 or so more expensive in Britain. _______________________________________ Comfortably Numb |

Not only that, but because iceland is part of the European Economic Area (even though Iceland is not in europe) you cannot dodge the vat in the same way you could by buying and activating GTC's in the US. /CCP fix for Amarr is in EVE Trinity - The Trinity of training either Caldari, Gallente or Minmatar! |
