Caldari are missile and shield specialists so you want to train those skills. The best way to see what you need is to check the skill requirements for the modules you need, the EveMON application is great for planning out your skill 'tree'. Im not a caldari pilo but off the top of my head..
Shield Management Shield Operation Tactical Shield Management Shield Compensation Skills Missile Launchers
Id also train to use a Afterburner. Dont forget your 'learning' skills - these take a while but will increase your attributes and so reduce your skill training times in the longer term.
Engineering skills will help you maximise your powergrid and cpu for fitting modules.
Eve Fitting Tool lets you fit your ship, and you can see what skills you need for a particular set up.

Yeah, go to the ships and modules forum, read about cruiser and battlecruiser setups there, train to use those mods. Train any skill that makes you ship have more hit points, be faster, have more cap, grid, weapons do more damage etc. Train them to 3d level first, then 4th eventually. Also visit the skills forum.

Edited by: Disco Flint on 02/12/2007 13:18:46 For the Caracal you'll want:
- Caldari Cruiser
- Afterburner
- Standard Missiles (for level 2 missions use Assault Launchers) - Heavy Missiles (for anything but level 2 missions :) ) - Rapid Launch (faster firing) - Warhead Upgrades (more dmg for all launchers) - Missile Projection (missiles fly faster -> longer range) - Missile Bombardement (missiles fly longer -> longer range) - Weapon Upgrades (to fit Ballistic Control Systems & reduce cpu need of weapons)
- Shield Management (to use shield boost amplifiers and bolster shield HP) - Shield Operation (to use shield boosters and decrease shield recharge time) - Tactical Shield Management (to use shield hardeners)
And then of course the basics like - Engineering (increases powergrid) - Electronics (increases CPU) - Energy Management (increases Capacitor) - Energy Systems Operation (decreases Capacitor recharge time) - Navigation (fly faster) - Evasive Maneuvering (turn faster) - Spaceship Command (turn .. more.. faster.. )
That's about it. With level 2-3 in each of those you'll have the skills for a really decent fitting already. Then bring your basics to 5 and some of the shorter skills (Rapid Launch, not Warhead Upgrades e.g.) to 4. Voila. Oh yeah, and throw in a few learning skills for good measure when you're comfortable with your ship & your skills for a few days.
