When Ambulation is released some time in the far future, we will be forced to change our avatars as they will be introducing a new way of doing it that is not compatible with the current one. They also decided that the amount of work it would take to code something that would convert current avatars into the new format wouldn't be worth the effort when the players are much better at doing it anyway.

The Avatar is pretty good as it is.
Its DDD might do the worst dmg type, but the ship and its bonuses are above average.
No changes are needed. |

I'm confused. Are we talking about the Avatar ship, your personal Avatar portrait or the Avatar of Ultima? In case of #2 I can confirm that you'll get to make a new one when Ambulation hits us as you'll have to make a full body one. Before that you can always create a character of same race and gender and pay us some moneys to swap that with your main. In case of anything else, I don't know. You'll probably have to take #3 up with whoever is actively ruining UO these days and #1 isn't in my ballpark.
Hmm, could this be the first post of mine this weekend.. that's rather disturbing.

Question - this full body, will it have a start based upon what you allready have (ie a computer thought on how my face avatar would be extrapolated onto full body with its current settings) or will it be a blank avatar for me to start allover?

Having the starting one resembling your old one would be ideal. However, I doubt it will be properly possible as there's not a snowballs chance that this will be a one to one mapping. You ''might'' get something remotely similar but seeing as it will just be remotely it's perhaps not that useful.
But I can't say for sure, we're talking so far in the future that this has either not been decided on or not made it down the grape-wine to my ears. If there is any way to make a decent mapping I'm sure we will opt for that, but if it turns out to be garbage most of the time it's not very productive to waste time on that.

I really hope we will be able to at least take an approximation of our avatars into the ambulation version of EVE. I've become quite attached to my character and his looks though i can't say the same for my alts .

Thanks for all the replies, i have just played this char for 1 month and already starts disliking my avatar.(the downside of achura) even it's in the far future, but at least there is still hope for us to make ourselfs look better sometimes later. espcial thanks for the dev reply that just made the confirmation more believable.

It surprises my liver which, up until now, has been a very neglected organ.
And you can change your Avatar if you're really unhappy with it (that is, make a new avatar and swap the portraits of the two chars). ..We just charge you for it.

Edited by: Rooker on 02/12/2007 18:38:40 Does this change our portrait here and on our "showinfo" ingame as well? Or does it apply only to the ambulated (assuming that's a word) character wandering around the stations?
Some of us spent quite a bit of time tweaking our portrait before finalizing it. I spent about 2 hours trying to make an Achura male that doesn't look like a zombie that's wandered into a toxic waste dump (and still wasn't all that successful).
If it is going to force a change in our portraits as well, can the "portrait changes must be to the same bloodline and sex" rule be tossed? You have to spend as much effort making an ugly Achura female as you do making a non-horrid male.

I have the distinct memory of Torfi explaining on the panel question session at fanfest in great detail how it would be possible to map the existing face onto the new ambulation body and then Oveur intervened and got Torfi to just say 'yes' in answer to the question.

What... how far in the future is "far in the future"? We'd better get Ambulation in 2008, or... I'll be sad.

Might be a bit too early to be asking this, but worth a try:
When ambulation hits, will we be forced to re-do our avatars as soon as we select them, or can we still log in with the old avatars and do the "new look" at a later time?
I'm asking because I log on pretty much every day, but only to change a skill, respond to a few e-mails, and get a few industry jobs going. It's only at the weekend that I have the time for something as lengthy as an avatar creation. (and trust me, it would take a while, I'm a perfectionist!)

I just hope my pretty face isn't going to be turned into horrible mess by rusty tools. Other than that I'm looking forward to spending hours in the DIY operating room hacking multiple clones into bloody pulp (with kitchen knives and meat mallets?)until I get something I can live with, only to lose it because of power outage (=client crash). |

Maybe I'm just thick but since you can design your new ambulation character from scratch you will be able to design your new avatar to something that will resemble the old one.
Isn't this a win win situation? If you don't like your current one you can redo it. And if you like the face you currently have then just save the avatar picture and copy the main features to the new one. It might take a bit to try and get them lookalikes but I'm sure the end result will be good. If you can't be arsed to take your time to redesing your new avatar to look like the old one, then I guess the choice is yours to take. -------------------------------------------------
