Hey there.
I've spent a good week or two browsing this forum, reading guides and trying my hand at playing regional markets with about 10 million in starting capital. I've had a series of small successes (slow and steady is better than nothing), but I'm having trouble finding enough markets to invest the bulk of my funds in order to double it in a realistically timely fashion. Investing in particular really fascinates me, but it wouldn't benefit me until I have an incredible amount of working capital!
I realize that this is the sort of knowledge that largely comes from practice, experience and mistakes, but as all of you probably know, time's money, and I don't want to spend more than I have to. For this reason, I'd like to put myself up for sale. If a more experienced trader would be willing to help me learn a few tricks of the trade in a practical environment, I'd be happy to run a variety of goods for them around the starscape for a very small service charge (5% or less, negotiable).
If trust is an issue, we can set things up with contracts that have collaterals. I have an alt that can transfer me money to cover larger loads if need be, though I'd like to avoid it if possible - starting small after all. The knowledge is infinitely more valuable to me, and I'd be delighted if someone might share theirs in a place less public than this forum - I've come to know that many of you are touchy about this, and for good reason.
I would prefer small volume cargo, as the character was designed as a trade alt and not as a training character. However, the opportunities presented by trade seem immense, and so I'm willing to suspend my main's training to teach this character how to use a large industrial (I imagine if I ever become very successful, a freighter will be desirable and worth the traning time). It would only take me a day or so, if I remember my character sheet right. I currently have trade V, retail IV, marketing III (50% to IV) and Procurement I.
I hope someone will be willing to extend their hand - I'm looking forward to working with you!

I don't really have the time to mentor anyone but feel free to convo me in-game for a few tips.
Here's one for free:
Disconnect hauling and trading, they are two different things. A trader does not need an industrial and a hauler needs no market knowledge. Personally, I havn't been out of my ketsral in months yet I make around 1 bil per week trading. (It's got no guns, just I-stabs and cap batteries )
That's not to say you should ignore hauling or avoid it, just be aware that they are two separate things and there are LOADS of people out there who will happily haul for you via the contracts system.

I understand that they're different - but I imagine some stations work better than others for selling things, which is why I offered. I have a friend who hauls professionally and makes a modest killing at it, so I figured there are ways in which the two could be related.
Yes, the docked trading bit is what I've been attempting. When you mention billions, my eyes water - I can barely manage a million in a day, and that seems to be largely luck related. I'll keep plugging away at it though, to be certain. Thank you!

What you are really seeking is a corporation to join. That's where the mentor'ing is going on mainly.

This idea intrigues me, and I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter =3
Would you have any advice as to finding a trade corporation of moderate renown? And would they accept someone like me? ^_^

Hey Bro,
As a fellow rookie trader, I can sympathize with the feeling overwhelmed. I however seem to be having a bit more luck then you, so Ill give you a few pointers from the rookie point of view. This is what works for me, and may not be the best way to work, but it has gotten me from a five mil investment to fifty mil in just a couple of weeks.
- Read the guides, everything you need to know is in there. That being said... - Forget hauling. Havent hauled anything, you dont need to. The money is in the buy/sell order gaps. - Use small buy orders to start, on cheaper goods with a good margin. You want to keep your money mobile. - I would get your trade skills up so you can sit a few systems outside of a trade hub and still trade there. This saves you a lot of lag, and frustration. -Spend lots of time browsing the market for items that are profitable. Use the history tab to make sure there is enough volume so that your money doesnt sit still. - Ignore the talk on the forums about billions a day profit. Its a ways off. But the profit rate goes up as you make more money, as you have more to reinvest. Just make sure you reinvest everything you can.
There we go. Hope I dont **** off any of the regulars by giving out anything, traders are a secretive bunch :) But I enjoy trading, and once you get the hang of it, you can be happy in the knowledge youll never be broke again.

I can give you a few trade routes near me that will tenfold your current cashflow for a good few hours hauling, plus you wont need much cargo capacity to do it.
There ideal for new traders/couriers/haulers looking to build up capital, but profit generally becomes limited once you reach a certain threshold due to supply and demand.... still, you can drop me a line if interested and I will give you details...

Though not exactly of moderate renown, you can come by our public channel Taggart.
