I don't think you can even IMAGINE how many problems they have right now, they aren't going to tend to your personal needs, they already have made a general post in regards to helping people out of this situation.
Well i think now more than ever they owe us some one on one support.

Originally by: Arthi DeSaule So as many people I also got this but at first I thought it was my overclocking that was messing it up so I restored it to default which apparently forced windows to create a new boot.ini.
My question is now that I have a boot.ini, is it fine? Can I re-clock it? Can I play Eve Fine?
yes.

On a more serious note. Yes this is a really really bad **** up and yes we need some high up to give an official statement/explanation for this. But guys give them some time to figure out what actually went wrong (read who to pod), most of the devs have properly been up all night to deploy Trinity. So lets give them a chance to wake up before we start lining them up in front of Jita 4-4à

I work with a group of guys that do that kind of stuff all the time. And its funny. But for the love of all that is good and holy we remember to remove it before pushing to production!
I think it the question to ask.

just checked myself using run>cmd> find boot.ini ect .
came back with "no boot.ini found"
so i restarted anyway as i only play eve on this sys and a format takes like 20-30 mins.
Any it starts restarting , then just before the windows loading screen i get "invalid boot.ini" , but it carries on loading and here i am still.
so do i leave it as is or what?

Jeez - you expect them to read all your trollin? Yes it works. This isn't the best place to complain or get comp specific advice, a petition is better. Also if they haven't yet responded to your previous posts why think that they'll reply to the same question in CAPS? |

Edited by: Gaven Blands on 06/12/2007 12:44:56 Quite how an EULA can say "we accept no responsibility, despite being blatantly obviously responsible for it" is beyond me.
If I was to visit CCP's offices and render all the computers inoperative, and simply say "I'm not responsible" are CCP going to take that lying down?
I should think not. --

The best option would be to recreated it using the example in the original post - if your PC boots fine without a boot.ini, it means Windows XP will be in the default location (as per the example).
After you save the new boot.ini, use msconfig to check that the windows path is correct. See my post #100 in this thread for full instructions on using msconfig. -- The cake is a lie! |

Quit complaining and read the topic!, Why reply saying "Please Help!!!11one" if you havent bothered to read the topic and follow other peoples advice, it was an easy mistake (i have done similar things several times) and if the Test machines were running Vista (which they probably are) this wouldnt have been picked up.

Girl girls, really stop hammering on the poor guys from CCP, this is really a quite normal computer disaster. What CCP could learn from this,is to have a beta tester group for the patches that is able to recover from disasters like this without the need of external help. I bet lots of people like to do this .
What we as a community could do, is taking people by the hand that arent able to help themselves, may be if someone lives in city XXX he could help people who lives there also.

It was quoted to work by every one else, but the dev said you do not have to go to such lengths (ie. lose data due to a rollback), so it was up to you, the dev did state other alternative methods to repairing this issue.

A system restore has worked for other users, however it may not be necessary to go to that length. As stated in the original post of this thread there are numerous knowledgebase articles and ways you can fix the single file (boot.ini) that is causing the issue.
ty for the reply thats is fact. i wasnt willing to tinker with boot menue as to cause more damage wasnt willing. Now do I need to unistall the game and re download it?

For everyone out for blood ect.
News
So CCP have made a news announcment on front page of website and offer there apologuies for the mess, now lets let them come up with fix's for everyone instead of making this thread the biggest whinefest ever, sure people are allowed to be annoyed but turning this thread into a whinefest is only making it harder for people to try find information needed when they have to sift through hundreds of useless posts.
And yes I was affected also and had to rebuild a boot.ini file before anyone use's the you were not affected reply.

Oh this is worrying.
Im not at home but im pretty certain i updated b4 4am.
I am concerned as some people (myself included) do not have a windows XP disc since retailers do not include them in prebuilt machines (such as pcworld, staples, currys or whatever).
Does this bug prevent me from booting to windows or something?
If am in this situaton and have no xp disc, how can i create a boot.ini file?
Im just concerned that i may potentially have to go out and purchase a copy of XP which will cost alot of money, whilst i appreciate that problems may happen on patch days and as such, may not be able to play for a few days as eve is down, is part of mmos'. What i am extremely displeased about is that this has effected me and ME personally. If i cannot boot my computer, well, i cannot do anything. alot of my RL work is obviously conducted on my computer, my family use it for various tasks.
I have never heard of anything like this happening before, ever.
However, i may just be jumping the gun and its nothing to worry about :D
Thanks in advance anyone who answers.
