OK, so we now have a new and improved UI with the release of Trinity. Overall my opinion is that this is a definite improvement. There are a few rough spots however.
Automatic "nice and neat" window repositoning - NOT NICE AT ALL
Example #1: The left side of my screen was laid out, top to bottom, as follows: Local, Drone Status (pinned), Watch List (pinned), and Corp/other chats. My cargo bay window, which us usually closed and left pinned, was also positioned to appear directly above the chat windows when it opened. At one point I had reason to open my cargo bay window ... which resulted in the two PINNED windows being shrank vertically and moved upwards to make room for cargo.
Example #2: After repositioning the cargo bay to a different spot from #1 and opening the corp hangar window, one window is invariably kicked to a differenet spot on screen. Sometimes it's edge-aligned to the old window, others it isn't.
No two people will have the same preferences for arranging their UI. Flexibile UI is very, very annoying if it insists on always doing things a certain way regardless of user preference. Example #1 in particular is VERY, VERY BAD because altered pinned combat information windows that had been specificly arranged for ease of monitoring. Permitting auto-shrink is especially henious because it can (potentially) result in loss of information when you don't have time to mess with the UI. (#2 is merely an annoyance, mostly because I now have no idea what the "default" size/position for cargo containers is now.)
Minor rough spots
1. Selected Item Window
Reduced footprint on screen is good. Forcing those of us who routinely had it colapsed pre-Trinity because we never used it not so good. Tickbox to enable/disable (defaut: enabled) in the esc-menu options seems the simplest method of adressing this.
2. Overview preset selection
Please re-enable right click anywhere on the overview title bar to bring up the list of custom setting presets. While this functionality is still possible, the current form slightly more cumbersome.
3. Auto-hide button bar ... not so auto-hide.
Admittedly I'm running on the "classic" client, but ever since Trinity was relased it seems like the button bar will only auto-hide when it's in the mood to do so. (Possible culprit: Bar is right-aligned, overview pane is positioned with zero space between it and the rightmost edge of my screen.)

Nevertheless, as much as the new UI is nice, it is also annoying as hell. Have to relocate my cargo windows (ship bay/corp hangar/cans) all the time, changing ships in space also moves windows around like crazy. There must be something eating the stacked window code...
When a new window is added to an existing pinned stack by the window (aka joining fleets or opening containers) the stack turns un-pinned.

Pinned means pinned.
Don't move, resize, hide, or in any way alter a window that is pinned.

Local keeps getting moved back into my main chat window stack when I close the game client.

If you have your log window pinned and you then exit the game and return, you'll end up with a 2nd log window on top of the pinned log window. If you fail to remove this 2nd log window, neither will show log information correctly.
Also, the log window (after a period of time that seems variable) it forgets to display combat logs. I've been in the middle of fights watching my combat scroll past and suddenly the window stops updating. I'll have to cycle the Date Stamp column to get the window to begin updating again.

"Forcing".. forcing you to do what?
If you are referring to the ability to collapse the Selected Items pane pre-Trinity, you can still do that now. Double clicking any window header will collapse it.
I have actually moved mine to the center of the screen right under the damage notifications.. much more accessible, but then again I used it a lot before.

Yes, I am referring to the pre-trinity ability to collapse it. Should've been a "keep it open" somewhere in that part of the opening post.
I didn't know about the double-click thing before now. Though this particular complaint is something of a minor quibble at worst. Now that it's no longer a huge space hog, I've actually started to use the selected object panel..
