If any other company was creating it, then I'd be very sceptical, but since CCP are gonna do it I'm pretty excited about it. I'm very interested in how it will be designed. presumably, supernatural characters would hafta hide their abilities from normal humans, so I imagine a concordesque band of human npcs roaming around cities which would sorta be like highsec. I'm also interested to see how much variety will be available. Each species in WOD has its own clans with their own innate abilities. I doubt all of them will be able to fit and therefore a lot of fans will be angry and disappointed. Still, I'm sure it'll kick ass.

I feel I should be more excited about it than I am, seeing as it's being made by my favouritist of MMO developers. But still, I'm not excited at all.
Maybe it'll perk up once we start seeing some information about it. ------

Depends how they handle awakened magic- it could easily be fantastic, but it could easily suck. Given that mages are my favourite wod superpower, their implementation will make or break the game for me

WoD has great flavor but the system itself sucked. This meant that the storyteller really was the key.
Also most of the people i knew who like WoD tended to be a little freaky, even for a group or nerdy roleplayers, too many of the heavy set female types in black with lots of makeup and skinny, pimply guys, with s&m and blood fetishes. The kind of folk that are still buying the Anita Blake books after the plot smothered under a sweaty supernatural sex fest that would make a furry blush.
so i am a bit worried about the type of community the game will attract.

Wait a minute, isn't this vampires in clans with guns and such? Wizards turning up the disco inferno would seriously put this thing out of its closet.

WoD has many sub-stories and sometimes they are combined into the same story-line. The werewolf and vampire motifs are just the best known WoD motifs; there is also changling, mage and a few more.

if thats true, ill get the demo/trial and have a look and a laugh and a quick deinstall.

The game will definitely be based on the New World of Darkness, for reasons that are obvious. Since White Wolf is taking an active roll in the development, I think it will most likely be a real-time adaption of the PnP game.
This essay best explains my beliefs: http://www.sanguinus.com/pl0026.shtml
Quote: Misconceptions: Player thought conventions that inhibit successful game play in a VtR environment
Misconception 1: It is a free country. Kindred Truth: It is a fascist monarchical dictatorship.
Misconception 2: Etiquette is optional. Kindred Truth: Etiquette is mandatory.
Misconception 3: There are no consequences. Kindred Truth: There are ALWAYS consequences.
Misconception 4: The right to life. Kindred Truth: Death and murder are a way of life.
Misconception 5: All people are created equal. Kindred Truth: There is NO SUCH thing as 'equality'.
Misconception 6: A bad attitude is a social merit. Kindred Truth: A bad attitude will get you killed.
Misconception 7: Vampires are people too. Kindred Truth: Mortal rules do not apply to vampires.

It may be interesting to see to what extent the mechanics are adapted from the pen and paper games but Anne Rice and hollywood destroyed any appeal vampires had for me. Nevermind the fact that the playerbase will most likely consist of teenagers who comb their hair over their eyes and make characters with names like sEpHiRoFf666. |

The EVE system just doesn't work in real life (which is what the WODO is loosely based on). I prefer a system where XP (gained from "adventures," RP, and simply playing at all) is used to buy skills, since it is significantly more abstract and thus more sensible.
The World of Darkness setting fits absolutely best with the system it was designed with. Deviation from the Storytelling System would require a major overhaul to the setting itself (for an example, Monte Cook's World of Darkness was not a d20 adaption, but rather an extremely different alternate universe).
CCP probably cares more about EVE than it would the WODO (they refer to it as an "action-based game" in one interview), so White Wolf likely has mostly full control over the creative direction.

I'll just lay some cold, hard truth on you... vampires and werewolves != real life
And if they do the level XP system it will suck.

very much doubt this will happen--arguably people play games for a structured experience not for their revolutionary open endedness and in the case of eve the skill system cuts both ways, attracts as it repulses ___ Eve Players are not very smart. Support Killmail Overhaul

Old WoD is much more interesting to be honest, I've not kept up to speed but it's almost like something horrendous happened and killed all the Promethean types? can anyone explain that? Where the hell are my Promethean? Damn it all..
If I can't play as one then it can get stuffed in my opinion.

If it's pretentious and disgustingly overserious, I wont care at all. If it has a sense of humor like Bloodlines, I'd have a deep affection for it and might even leave EVE (for a while) to play it.

Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to subscribe to and play more than one MMOG at the same time.
The game will be based on nWoD without a doubt, so please forget about EVERYTHING from the oWoD, because it won't be there (except possibly as an unrelated remake). The main difference between the two is that nWoD has no metaplot (giving you much more leeway and freedom, along with no "end of the world" scenario) and no world-spanning Illuminati (meaning that you can run and hide from ANY enemy, because ALL supernatural governments are localized and perpetually separated into "cells," and trapped that way).
