Hmm. Do you think that's why he is a Pirate? I'm not certain, but I think I'd remember getting the "Pirate Handbook" out of the library...
...and just as an aside, his tactics seem sound.

True true that piracy doesn't mean that we have to play by the rules, BUT it does ruin the other pirates who stick to their word to get a ransom paid. Less and less people pay ransoms because I guys like that. If you are going to pop the guy don't ransom.

So, you're saying there's a tiered version of piracy, then?
"First, your return to shore was not part of our negotiations nor our agreement so I must do nothing. And secondly, you must be a pirate for the pirate's code to apply and you're not. And thirdly, the code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules. Welcome aboard the Black Pearl, Miss Turner."
While it may ruin other pirates' fun, and may lay shame on the term "pirate" as a whole, it's all in how you live your (in game) life, now, isn't it? If you're a heartless bastard, by all means, promise safe passage after paying a ransom, and then burn the ship and toast the pod... ...just don't forget about smack-talking it up in chat.

I guess that works too... I myself don't ransom never have and probably never will. I lock and kill that simple. To each his own...

Honoring ransoms is the only hard and fast rule among pirates. Your word is the only thing you have that's worth anything to your victim; ransoms are the bread and butter of a pirate's income, if no one believes you are going to let them go if they pay you, what reason do they have to pay you in the first place?
And thus, you have every reason to honor your word, as if you do, people will take you at it far more often, et voila, a nice padded wallet :)

Yep... if I get money without asking for a ransom... I consider that a gift towards the cause. And I make sure to notify them that they have just funded terrorism ____________________ Hi. I'm not an alt :)

My main character - if by that, we mean the first one I created - is being deleted. (You can check if you'd like - I've been playing this for about 14 days now, just out of the trial, and finally purchased the game. Yes, true noob here.)
I built it poorly, and clicked delete a few days ago, and just found out it takes 10 days for it to disappear. (His name was Kaaleb Dahhn, fyi, if that means anything.) I'm not hiding behind an alt - this is going to be my Main, as soon as the 10 days runs out.
I would challenge that a pirate might have ANY hard and fast rules. If that were so, there wouldn't be as many poddings, or as many characters complaining of the treatment that OP has, as above.
I will, of course, bow to everybody's opinion, as I went over this with a buddy of mine yesterday, who's helping me as I learn my way around the game. I do "get it", but if every once in a while, a pirate has a bad day, and decides, "forget this, I'm taking the money AND the ship", who are we to say it can't happen?
Y'arr.

Wow... Grammar is terrible, spelling is worse, and the concept of pirates with honor. You win the "Wont someone please feel sorry for me, because that other paying customer isn't playing the way I want him to" contest. Congratz! He did not break any laws or rules. He should not be flagged if he was only salvaging.
Originally by: Chakasul i made the misstake to think i can kill him. he returndes with an hyperion and scrambeld me.
So you aggressed him? He did not have a ship obviously with enough fire power he had to come back with another ship?
Originally by: Chakasul i treadet him the 20 mio isk to save my schip, but he doesnŠt stop, till i blow up.
You gave him 20 mil to save your ship...first off did he ask for a ransom or did you just give him 20 mil in hopes he would just go away?
Originally by: Chakasul so donŠt wonder when pirates have a bad credit
Are you sure he was a Pirate. The guy shows up salvages your wreck. You aggress him he come back and hands you head on a platter after you give him 20 mil. You know it sounds more like a ****ed off garbage collector than a pirate.

Yeah he was probably in a dessie with 8 salvagers on it and no DPS what so ever.
Now that you tore his post apart I agree he deserved to get popped....

Seriously, why are you even posting here if you're 2 weeks old? Why? What could you possibly have to contribute other than the Pirates of the Caribbean quote that you probably Googled anyway?

QFT...
Those of us who have been piratng for a spell in "this" game know a little bit more about the moral do's and don't of piracy (moral piracy: ironic I know). Dishonoring a ransom is looked down upon by most pirates, for the simple reason that we pirates need to get isk, and if me and mine have a rep for not honoring ransoms then we don't get paid.
Hang out in here for a bit and get a feel for how things work before you start jumping to conclusions or putting forth your 2 cents (that while valid) do not pertain to our (eve's) pirate code.

It's a concept of honoring your word and the basic distinction between pirates and scammers. You can be a pirate and a scammer - blow up other players and lie to them to seek more profit for yourself. Or you can be either a pirate or a scammer - either blow people up while honoring your own word, or lie to players and profit at their expense without blowing them up.
And the two don't always come together.
