Recently I got a new hard drive for my computer and after getting it up and running my computer became very unstable, especially while playing EVE. After a bit of trouble-shooting, and cleaning 4 years worth of dust and dirt out of my 450w Allied power supply, I got it somewhat more stable but my PSU would start clicking anytime I was using an ap. that had 3D graphics.
I was running a Radeon 9800 All-In-Wonder which is based on the 9800 Pro chipset and earlier today I upgraded to a Diamond x1650 Pro card and the clicking has since stopped.
Still, I am curious if anyone knows why my old card would have caused this clicking sound and, presumably, the system instability when it hasn't done anything like this over the last 2 years that I've had the card.
The card has, mind you, along the way managed to burn the plastic on the external power plugs so I'm guessing that at the least it was pulling some pretty heavy power.

Wow, I have a similar problem. My Enermax Liberty 620W (6 months old) recently started clicking. It does it from boot, but the pitch of the clicking rises and falls with the load on the graphics card (Nvidia 7950GS).
I took the PSU back to the shop and they said it ran everything they had silently. I was using an el-cheapo Codegen 600W in the meantime and it ran silently.
I got the Enermax back, installed it and it was silent for an evening's gaming. So I carefully re-cable-managed it all again (took hours). On next boot the clicking is back. I've given up for the moment and just try to ignore the clicking now, which is loud enough to be heard over itunes.

Buy a new powersupply. When pushed to hard they start to click and does so depending on your actions at the computer... So better get a new soon, It's not fun when a powersupply fails on you Somebody set up us the bomb |
