I was talking about all sorts of things this morning in chat with my corp mates and I suddenly had a silly idea that on second thought was a really simple and evil way to nerf MarcoMiners.
- Any can that remains in one spot for longer than a determined time limit(CCP decides) is moved 4km in a random direction. Just out of opening range, regardless of which direction it is. Real players will just move over a little bit and ignore it, as the change is still within the range of their mining lasers. Bots will have a massive headache.
- CCP can also do this randomly and note which miners automatically pop out a new can instead of moving to the new one.(the random direction is critical) Or they can do it on an instance by instance basis and see for themselves which are acting like bots. I mention this because CCP could also do random game-wide can bumping throughout the day. Or in a region as well if they don't want to track each can's timer.

You realize that the only way to "move" a can is with a tractor beam? Good luck fitting that on a mining barge and not losing productivity. (hint: A barge doesn't have any extra high slots, so you have to lose a strip miner to put one on). Since the range of a strip miner is 15km, 4km will easily make it so that you can't hit the roids and lose the 6 minute cycle of the stips.
All this will do is nerf legitimate miners and destroy productivity of legitimate miners. Perhaps try mining and then come up with ideas?

people macro mine with cans? I'll have to find those dumb ones and park my impel next to them.
Even if this is the case all they have to do is make it so they dock after they fill thier ship instead and you just annoyed everyone who is activly mining.

These are the posts that destroy the game. You know the carrier cargo nerf started with a post like this. You CAN NOT penalize people who don't macro with a macro fix. If they find a solution, it has to be an intelligent one. Our corp labels cans with timestamps to make sure we know how long we have to haul it. We mine in hulks, and they are extraordinarily slow. Mining is tedious enough already, lets not even talk about implementing something so ill conceived. Last thing I want to have to do is redrop my can every time my strips cycle. Clearly, this poster has never done any serious mining. --------------------------------- Let's make CLONE VATS useful! |

Sigh.
NEWSFLASH: Macro Miners in EVE are rare.
NEWSFLASH: The players you see probably belong to a sweatshop operation using human labor.

I think this guy is quite right.
If by macro you define someone who may not answer when convoed or reply to calls on local, gets bored when someone bumps him out of his spot or would move his can, I'm one.
Anyway, I no more mine, I kill things.
Annoying miners more will not help with the quite rare macros. Approaching a can is totally within their reach.

You realize that both macros and real miners will simply pop out another can? Jet can miners pick it up later in a hauler, and we don't particularly care if the can is full or not if it's going to take us 16km from the rock we're sucking on to get to it. All this really does is annoy people. -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |

I don't see what this idea is good for.
I would simply set my ship on aproach to the can. My ship would perma aproach, even if I am already there. If the can is pulled away (or my ships would be transfered 4km away from my old spot), the ship is simply re-aproaching to the old point (can).
