I was curious what would be best for solo pvping for Caldari, preferably with cloaking. Not much luck with the SB :/

Caldari/Solo/PvP
Pick two.
TBH, though, there are a few things you can do. Crow, some Drakes, possibly a gank Raven, all possibilities. However, Caldari PvP is generally group-oriented.

Edited by: Radcjk on 15/12/2007 15:44:50 Yeah, Acoco summed it up pretty well. Caldari set ups and bonsus scream team work. With cloaking makes it even more difficult.
Falcon - With 2 missiles and 1 gun ( or vice versa) and a cloak, you'll deal more damage throwing rocks. And its paper thin if that ewar fails.
Rook - Used to be able to do what you are asking, but now its either 4 missiles and cloak, or 5 missiles and no cloak. Again, light on the damage.
You really dont want a cloak on a non cloaking ship for solo work due to the increased lock on time. Also it would help if you specified what ship class your interested in as well. Intys, AFs, Frigs in general, cruisers, Battlecruisers, etc.
Also, how are you fitting / using your SB ?

Crow, Drake, and Raven those are the common solo pvp choices for Caldari.
The onyx will no doubt be popular once prices drop.
Most Caldari ships will suffer from fitting tackling equipment, this means they will tend to be a little less effective than armor tankers with similar fits. However this is balanced by the advantage that these ships have as soon as you bring a separate tackler or two.
Solo PvP with cloaking leaves only a single ship, the Falcon, which while viable is a little expensive for chance based PvP.

Rad, basically something I can do some solo stuff in when the mood strikes me. Something where im able to get around without hitting a gate camp which im sure to do, which is why im a fan of cloaking.
I'm probably better off finding a pvp corp for the stuff I'd like to do though, ganking haulers, scouting out people in missions in lowsec.

The OP didn't ask for a perfect caldari solo pvp setup... He didn't even ask for a good setup. All he asked was which caldari ships would be his best bet.
That's ofcourse near impossible to answer as we don't know his situation, so people just generalize...
I'd try these:
Stealth Bomber (already tried) Harpy w/ blasters Caracal Drake Rook Cerb - I'm a nice guy!!
But hook me up with some pew pew, because I'm really bored... |

Skill hybrids, crosstrain to gallente.
Of course you can pull it off in Caldari ships, but in most cases you're putting yourself at a disadvantage against ships of the same class.

For T2 frigates Im a fan of the Crow and the Harpy. Crow I havent played with post trinity. Harpy I like to slap 150 railgun IIs on it. Mwd, 20 KM fleeting scram (for cap use), small shield booster, passive EM hardener. In the lows i run a mag stab and cpu mod at the moment. Havent totally tweaked it out. forget the sniper harpy, load faction antimatter and watch cruisers / haulers cry at your 20 KM optimal. Just watch for drones as the guns dont track small fast guys the best. It isnt the greatest set up by any means but it works for what I use it for.
Cruisers The caracal is cheap and disposable. A Blaster Eagle with best fitting guns, mwd, 20 km disrupter, medium Shield booster II, Invulnerability field II, and a webber can surprise people. Toss in as manay mag stabs and a damage control II as you can in the lows and it surprises folks. Only down side is that its tank is held together with rainbows. Rainbows and hope.
I dont really solo with heavier ships as I find it a bit pointless trying to catch things with a raven or ferox or drake. Anyway mate, just throwing out some possable ideas for you.

It remains the case that a Caldari solo PvP ship suffers limitations in doing so. These limitations are such that you _can_ PvP solo, if you're lucky or good, but you're at a significant disadvantage to a pilot of similar skill, in a similar class of ship.
No, seriously. Without a web/scram/MWD you're wasting your time trying to solo, and that _really_ cuts into your ability to shield tank. So you die easily too. Whilst you can in theory fit damage mods as well as tank/tackle, your damage output is ... lower than the alternatives, too.
None of these things mean you _can't_ PvP, it just means the gallente or minmatar alternative is probably a better choice for what you want to do.
With that aside, I'd suggest as prospects: Crow Flycatcher (highslot tackle, long range weapon) Caracal ('s cheap, and not too crap) Drake Onyx.
As options worth a try.
The drake and caracal aren't great on DPS and tank, but for a 'tackle + LSE + damage mod' style of tank, they work ok, and are insurable. The Cerberus can pretty much do the same thing, just not as well as the drake, and more expensive.
Caldari ships have their niche, but it remains the case that as PvP machines, they're not 'that great'. Specialised, and able to do some really awesome things as supporting PVP gang ships, yes, but solo ownage... seriously, gallente/minmatar cruiser isn't as hard to train as you think. -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? Solo cloaking? Probably not, but the Widow may have a chance. Solo in general? Nowadays lots of ships.
In a breath... BlasterokhTorpravenBlarpyBeagleDrakeCrowNighthawkCerberusWidowOnyx and also Caracal, Hawk and Manticore but strictly for frig-sized killing.
I disagree with the "pick two from Caldari/solo/pvp" FOTM, which I believe is something... well... last month, so to speak... --- If someone else from my Corporation or Alliance agrees with me, he will say so. Assume nobody does :) --- WTB: Scorpion wing (left)

solo pvp is dead, it truly is.
a while back CCP wanted to make pvp last longer as its fun. ( good reason but has a nasty side effect)
as fights lasted longer with these new beefy tanks, people could now call for back up or have time to react and fight back. so to counter this new problem, more and more blobs started so you can kill ships quicker so they don't have time to call for back up.
well this is just my opinion
so is caldari good for solo pvp? no, hardly any ships are unless you find a lovely little newbie ratting in his 1st battle ship that he spent 3 weeks to mine to get.

For this, probably the Crow. Interceptors can escape almost all lowsec gatecamps and stand a good chance at escaping 0.0 bubbles, and the Crow is the most solo-friendly interceptor (doesn't need to slow down to deal damage). Watch targets, though, it doesn't deal that much DPS and other interceptors will eat the Crow for breakfast.
