Edited by: Urrorur on 18/12/2007 11:19:51 Imho, this expedition sucked.
Here is my story.
Found a radar signature. Scanned it down hoping for a hacking site. Turns out to be this motherload.
Warp in with a Mega and a Domi fit for spider tank. 7-8 BS, plenty of cruisers, frigs. Kill them all. Acceleration gate to stage two. Same thing, about 3 or 4 spawns of these guys.
Get an expedition. Sends me 7 jumps away. Get there...same plex (2-stage, several spawns, but this time I get a Guristas Scout Commander...drops 12th Tier Overseers Personal Effects...10mil).
Finsih it up, sends me 6 more jumps. This time...holy wow. "Guristas Fleet Outpost" staring me in the face plus a token spawn of 4-5 bs plus support. Cool, I start blasting away.
BOOM.
Ship incinerates instantly. Turns out it was a Thor Torpedo that did well over 40k damage. Cool. Scratch one mega with rigs.
Total Cost: 100mil (after insurance payout)
Total Payday so far (loot plus bounties): 70mil
Friend shows up with a plated-to-all-hell Mega with a logistics ship.
Boom. Death.
-200mil.
We try to speed tank the torp with an assault frig.
BOOM.
-220mil.
Hauler full of shuttles to try the age-old "wtf?!" tank.
-221mil.
1 rifter because...hey, maybe we had the range incorrect?
-221.4mil
Ultimately we beat it and got 22nd Tier Overseers Personal effects for our trouble.
Still 60-odd mil in the hole. No dread spawns (in the DREAD GURISTAS Fleet Staging point...interesting), and no loot on the "omfgkillyouintheface" outpost other than the overseers garbage.
Ultimately, this complex is fail, and it took 6 guys to finally do it. 100mil split six ways is not worth the 36 hours spent to scan, run, fit, refit, die, rebuy, refit, and win.
Don't do it. CCP, is this bugged or do I just suck at life?

No Thor torps appear in alot of Guristas plex, stops people being lazy and only fitting kin/therm tanks.
Also its lol. Bring logistics in future and tank EM/KIN/THERM.

Edited by: Ontaku Oroa on 18/12/2007 12:06:33 What do you think? Personally I would *love* to get my hands on a torpedo that does 40k damage. That would be very useful indeed. Who needs titans and doomsday devices, eh?
Several other people have already reported this insta-pop torpedo attacks from PvE stations. My guess is they somehow borked stuff and we're looking at the same "insta-pwnage" 0 sec rate of fire bug that was reported on some player-operated dreads. Basically you get slugged by a krapload of torpedoes all rolled in one.

No its an intended feature of Guristas plex (some of them) it was first found in "The Maze" plex and requires you to have remote reps on the tank to survive. Also EM hardners. The Guristas stations fire a Citadel Thor Torpedo every 30 seconds (iirc) and yes its alot of damage. Suck it up, petitioning it is silly.

From a sheer risk vs reward standpoint, I'm still disappointed. Perhaps there's a random chance that something decent drops and I just happened to be the unlucky one.
However, good to know others have had similar experiences with these torps from hell. I think a Wolf or Jaguar might be the answer to the torp.

Aye, this is indeed a HUGE letdown in terms of risk vs reward. When i did it we got a pith A-type ballistic Deflection Field and a 22nd tier overseer. This Overseer sentry shoots Thor Torpedoes (citadel class) 180k DMG untanked. The trick to tanking is to plate and harden a BS to hell with a logistics (4x large remote armor reps). Worked 7/7 times i've gone up against thor torpedoes from the guristas fleet stronghold / HQs.

Found the same complex Angel version. Sent me 24 jumps away, 10 in hostile territory, still we went there 2 BS and a scout Typhoon / Dominix.
Finally the Fleet outpost : shooting Doom torpedoes ; 900 dages only with appropriate resistances but oh wait ...
With 2 BS we just couldn't break the shield regen ... Woot so what should i come with a dread or 5 pple just to do it as the whole escalation was doable by 2 people ?
Once more Exploration shows the lack of love ...

Anyone happen to have any recent experience with this?
This original post doesnt mention that there are Energy Neutralizer Sentries in the first two stages (second stage was a lvl3 one that i required a corp mate to come help out on), did the expedition get changed or were they in there before as well?
Also not seen a single Dread Guristas throughout any of the stages thus far which is given the name quite the dissappointment...
Also I got hit 'lightly' by the Fleet Outpost for 4.9k damage and ran like the chicken I am... I didnt dare go back in without a logistic which ill do tonight...
Did anyone try using defender missles against the torp? Does it work?
Cheers! - - -

I can tell ya that you can kill this nightmare with 2-3-4 dreads, not one... and 5 BS seems to be not enought for this...
If you remember, some situation was in the 8 / 10 angel complex, but difference is 8's citadelle battery can be killed with 3 BS... -------

Did the plex recently, and its really not that hard. For step 1 and 2, we used a nighthawk as tank and a damage dealer (any will do). Take out the 2 neuts first and u should do fine.
Problem in third stage: while shooting the station, more and more rats will spawn and aggro everybody besides the tank , so taking out ships first makes things easier. Especially the neut III is a pain in the ass, so it needs to be primaried as soon as it spawns. Used a deimos (2x 1600, EM + Kin hardeners and EM + Kin rig) and a logistic ship, deimos never drops below 90% armor. Golem and NH had an easy time taking out the ships and the station, golem had also a cap transfer fitted to keep the hardeners on deimos running.
Station dropped pith a-type SB and amp

Yup made this plex again, angel version. Lost a Dominix when Energy netutra tower popped and basically sucked the domi dry in 5 sec, no good reflex to warp out in time, bybye.
Setup a new one, brought in a carrier, and then again 1 carrier and 2 BS weren't enough. 2 more allies BS went to the rescue and the struct went down leaving only a 23rd tier overseer thingie.
Strange thing though we waited a bit in there nothing happened but the expedition stayed in the journal, strange.
The 8/10 plex is a pain in the ass with the last structure randomly megatanking ; did it 4 times in a few days, looted only once ... but some nice things.
Oh well Exploration is frustrating but sometimes it's ok.

Tanking these exploration 'plexes isn't the main issue... the main issue is the chance for a good drop is very low. Given the effort and time required, I think it's reasonable to reliably expect some very nice rewards.
That's not the case.
They're 15/10 difficulty, with 5/10 rewards (unless you get quite lucky).
That's silly.
If Eve pve is about risk vs reward, why shouldn't high risk equal high reward? A fair bit of exploration content is *not* in line with the rest of Eve's Pve. That's broken, imo.

Loot reward is definitely broken for the insane time to find these plexs and then run them. However all you can do is direct it at CCP cos no one else can sort it.

We flight this Plex with 6 BS supported by 2 Shield Sup.Ships. My Ship sunk after the second strike from the Thor Torpedo (first with 3800 HP, second with nearly 33K, on 60% EM resis at 16k SP.). At this moment my ship got heavy boost from the shield sup.Scimitar.
What the hell, they are thinking? And sure, i¦m silly, take a ped. And the answer.. this is game mech. lol

OK... Two rigged Ishtars down (last one petitioned as it went down while in warp o.0) I gave up but for those that run into this massacre plex here's a couple of tips:
1. Yes, it's named Dread Guristas Fleet Staging Point but all you will encounter are Pith. 2. First stage is soloable in an uber anti Guristas setup. 3. Second stage has a lvl 3 neutralizer in it on the second stage (yes second stage of second stage) which will kill any active tank; so bring a logistic friend or a passive tanked ship. 4. Third stage has a sentry gun named Fleet Outpost that will shoot Thorp torpedos at you, one every 30 seconds. You will also get webbed very heavily by the frigs. In theory you should be able to do this with an Ishtar (med: 1x t2 EM active, low:1x med rep, 1x em active, 1x therm active, 2x 800mm plates) and an armor logistic ship on your tail using medium shield drones. Kill the webbing frigs first. However I'm not sure if you are able to do enough dps to kill the Fleet Outpost Sentry. Personally I'm not gonna bother next time unless I have a carrier pilot or dread pilot nearby willing to drop on it.
That Thorp Torpedo is just out of whack and most definetly not fun imho. - - -

Just to clarify for people, I just ran this and it is easy if you use a capital. The third escalation site has no acceleration gate so you can use a suicide cyno pilot to open cyno field for your capital. A single dread is ur best bet. One cycle of siege finishes off the outpost quickly.

We ran a 10/10 "The Maze" last night, and it ended in the same room. Before we finished, we lost a nighthawk, a domi, and an ishtar (ok the ishtar was an accident). No capital ships allowed in here, the gate won't let pods/shuttles/dreads/ms/carrier/titans/freighters through.
The last room, what you need is a T2 minnie ship with a buffer shield tank, and an armor tank that's high on EM/KIN/THERM. The thor torp hits for a lot of damage every 30 seconds (i think, might be 15). It's damage is 100% em, and against a 93.5% em resist, it hit for 6,000 damage. We ended up doing it with a Munin tanking, a Scimitar and an Onerios boosting him, and a couple of ravens / a phoon for damage.
You won't be able to speed tank it, there's at least two stasis web batteries. You won't be able to rep the damage yourself, there's too much. Kill the batteries and the frigs first, then the cruisers. When we did it, there were 5x "Dread Pith" battleships, but SHOCKER they dropped T1 crap (best drop from any of the 5 was an X-9000 cruise launcher, no kidding, and one of them was EMPTY).
Anyway, after you clear the room, at specific trigger points on the stronghold's HP, it will spawn more stuff. I think it did this 5 times, maybe a total of 30-35 BS and whatever frigs over 5 spawns (getting more difficult as they went). We had to warp out every spawn, because they would target the logistics ships, and run the entire maze for 20 minutes to get back into the final room.
Helen's right, the way to do it is a T2 minnie armor tank with resists and plates, and two or more logistics ships. But... read on...
Once the stronghold went down, guess what we got?
1x 23rd tier overseer's effects. about 4M in bounties x 8 people (over the course of the whole plex)
That's it.
Risk vs. reward indeed. No dread guristas loot, no pith ?-type anything, no rattlesnake BPC's, nothing of any value whatsoever, and that overseer's effects doesn't even begin to cover the losses we took, much less the time we spent doing the damn thing.
I've filed a bug report about it. But, seriously, whatever CCP did to the loot tables a couple of patches back (revelations, i think?) where the loot dropped by NPCs has been made DRASTICALLY less valuable, and for deadspace NPCs (exploration, plexes, missions), it's so much less valuable it's not worth doing.
I mean, seriously, NOT EVEN COUNTING THE LOST SHIPS, we could have made MORE MONEY doing level 3 missions. Including the value of the overseer's effects, and considering the time it took us to figure out our strategy, run back and refit several times, call for more help, run the maze umpteen times, call for more help, figure out our strategy some more, and warp out/run the maze/warp out/run the maze/warp out for each spawn in the last room, I think we spent 5-6 hours on this piece of crap. Value of loot divided by people involved? Maybe 30M per player. Before ship losses.
In 6 hours running level 3 missions, between loot, salvage, bounties, and LP, you can make more money with literally no risk in a noob-fit drake.
High-level complexes are worthless. Don't waste your time or money.

You got the overseer's effects, the only guaranteed loot, deadspace loot is the awesmoe bonus that you have a chance of getting. The risk wasn't worth the reward this time, if all you're worried about is isk, go run the missions risk free. Some of us enjoy the complexes because it's something we had to find to run and you don't get to do it everyday (unless you're a scanning god with luck on your side). Enjoy the experience, it's sad you didn't get loot but that doesn't mean it's broken

No, I agree with you; and believe it or not, even with the ship losses, I did have fun, and if we found another one, we'd know what ships we needed to do it, and could probably do it first run next time. Knowing is half the battle and all that.
I didn't petition, I bug reported, just to make sure they knew that their loot tables weren't dropping any pith stuff from a pith 10/10 complex. But, more so than that, the "Risk Vs. Reward" wasn't at all balanced. For all the risk we took doing the plex (out in 0.0 space, with NPCing ships, and especially with "the maze" because you literally have to fly out and back in to the entrance multiple times leaving you vulnerable where other deadspace missions would only leave probers at the entrance gate), the reward was in no way balanced.
These things are supposed to be the hardest PVE activity eve has to offer (or maybe 2nd hardest after lvl 5 missions?). Well, this one was massively hard, requiring lots of coordination, strategy, planning, etc from multiple corps and a team of 8-10 people to get it done. It's just not balanced versus, for example, empire mission running, or running through 0.0 belts in stain/venal/catch looking for estamel and gotan.

Actually, I just got a reply back on my bug report, and the word is that CCP didn't know that the plex could drop no pith loot. They don't say whether or not it's an intended game mechanic that this could happen, but at least it's good to know that they're not aware of it.
They said they'll look into it. So maybe it's supposed to drop more, and if I find another one it'll be fixed or drop better loot!
