For high sec runs in and out of jita with valuable cargo. Would it be ignored as a target or would folks try? And what type of adversary would it take to gank one before getting concorded?

No matter what ship you are in, if you get scanned and carry some good stuff, they will try. Only way to avoid it is to
STAY THE HECK OUT OF JITA!!!

Depends on your cargo. If gankers can get more from your cargo then what they lose to concord (what isn't really much) you a target. So if you have a few billion worth of cargo they will bring the numbers to kill you.

Assuming you are properly fitted, it will take quite a bit of firepower to take your bustard down. Stay out of main trade routes and you should be just fine.

They will scan you, so put lots of useless stuff in the cargo hold - like 500 bookmarks, by the time they have found anything of value, the chances are you have warped off.
Of course, taking it one step further would be if anyone sees you have 500 bookmarks in the cargo hold, you probably have something of value, and will pop you anyway.

i have found that the best way to avoid getting ganked is to use a ship that they would not even consider scanning, a retrofitted Armahauler (Armageddon with t2 cargo expanders and cargo rigs)works for me ---------------------------

Being a very experienced suicide ganker I've found it is extremely difficult to kill a transport ship without a large group and even then it's hard because it's next to impossible to scan you if you're fast and IF we do manage to scan you in time you'll already have warped off by the time we have found anything decent. So another group ahead at a different gate would have to gank you.

A little off topic because it's not a serious suggestion, but when you are going afk for a while, buy a badger and name it "BankMobile". Throw in some empty secure containers and name them "t2", "faction", "named", "zydrine" or alike. Set it to autopilot through the nearby systems of Jita, back and forth. If you're lucky, you will make someone swear a bit after seeing your loot. And get some kill rights $ When repeated often, you might earn the status "fake hauler" and be ignored in the future ganks :P

Well, as has been stated, no matter how tough your ship is, there is always a force capable of destroying it before CONCORD asplodes them. Even if you were somehow able to haul everything in a Titan, there is a theoretical force capable of destroying that Titan before CONCORD comes to save you.
That being said, I just used EFT to create a setup for a Bustard which gives you 50k effective HP (against equal distribution damage types). 2x Large Shield Extender IIs, 1x Invul Field II, 5x PDS.
Should be able to tank a BS or two in time for CONCORD to lay the smack down.

Nighthawk with 1x Invul and 4x LSEIIs...for when you really want to haul safely.
Make it 1x Invul, 1x EM, 3x LSEII and 2x Core Extenders if you're feeling really paranoid.

WHen carrying semi-high-value stuff afk with an low-sp alt, I use a tanked Rokh. With my main, I use an inty or blocade runner, and never do it afk. For bulk I use a freighter. ------------------------------------------

You can maximize your odds of survival by:
A) Actually being there (this one is the most important) B) Fitting a passive tank (shield extenders, hardeners, plates, damage control etc) C) Fitting stabs D) Fitting mods to increase your agility E) Not putting everything you own into the ship
Check youtube for a video called Karma.

exactly. Ship scanner won't show you if something is in GSCs or not. It'll just look like an empty hauler. Warp to zero and align relatively quickly and you're probably fine. I'd say 4 gank BCs or 2 gank BS would be able to take out almost all deepspace transports. I wouldn't carry more than 100-150mil in one, tbh. -----

And sadly T2 BPCs are now common from invention and don't make good bait.
But I know (of) someone who pre-invention used to do exactly that with T2 BPCs in a faction tanked iteron 5. -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? GMP and TNP |

Well thats not exactly correct.. I've ran a tanked Mammoth with 3 med extenders 2 invul and 4 wcs and it lolz at a 4 bs low sec camp.. By the time I warp away they *might* eat into about 1/3 of the shields.. Add resist rigs and pds in the lows if you feel like it and tank even more in empire due to Concord showing up and wtfpwning the suicide gankers.. As long as your actively warping to zero you should be pretty much immune to high sec ganking unless they simply want to overwhelm your tank and kill you for spite but they will suffer quite the financial loss if that happens..
To the op you should be just fine in your Bustard as long as you think about how you fit it and pay attention to your route and how much value in cargo your going to haul..

On Transports
The Bustard and Mastadon are the best for what you are looking for, due to the following reasons:
The Bustard and Mastadon get shield tanking bonuses, and both have 3 mid slots and overall good resists (Bustard has one 0%, but that can be mostly fixed by one T2 hardener. Mastadon has a better spread of resists, so a T2 Invulnabilty field is good...). The Bustard and Mastadon can run a pretty decent shield tanks AND be fully expanded "at the same time".
Occator and Impel are both bigger (if fully expanded), but they are crap tanks compared to Bustard and Mastadon UNLESS they sacrific several low slots. (If they sacrific all their low slots they probably tank better)
However, even if you haul in a Tanked T2 Battleship, if you put enough value in your hold, it will STILL be profitable to kill you, and there are folks out there that can and will do it if you give them a chance. Dont go afk in such situations, and use "warp to zero".
Play nice while you butcher each other.

Vagabond. No suicide-ganker I know of sports a web, so if someone even tries to screw with you and manages to lock you before you warp off, just MWD.
That said, it's a spectacularly-poor option for AFK hauling, given its vulnerability to kinetic damage.

If you could get one there, I am pretty sure it would impossible to suicide gank a (tank fitted) Titan in high sec -- simply because the number of ships you'd need to have x number of Concord showing up = node crash.

The reason I like Nighthawk for hisec secure hauling is also because of its spectacular cargo hold.
Really, the only thing that beats it would be a Marauder.

unless you had hps via extenders or whatever, you are not all that hard.
I onced suicided an afk occator in 0.7 with only 10 base t1 fitted destroyers, mostly thrashers with arties.
the occator popped before concord popped the first destroyer.
