So, I was playing with the table included in the Tracking Guide on this site, and overall, as far as I can tell, there would be no real reason for me to go to medium turrets, unless I'm missing something here. The chance to hit and DPS over a 200mm was far superior than something like the 425mm in almost every instance. I'm a complete noob here, but does anyone have any recommendations or advice as to when I should upgrade my turrets to a larger size, or when they would be more advantageous?

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 19/12/2007 21:42:52 Medium turrets will outdamage small turrets when used against cruiser class targets and larger in most cases. An Enyo with good T2 blaster skills will outdamage T1-fit cruisers fairly easily but that's an exception.
Generally speaking though if you fly a cruiser, most of your weapons should be medium turrets or heavy missiles since other cruisers and battlecruisers should be your main targets.

Small turrets = Frigates and Destroyers Medium Turrets = Cruisers and Battle cruisers Large Turrets = Battleships XL turrets = Capitals
Larger ships can use smaller guns.. but you really wouldn't want to And you dont want to mix types either.. go all for the same type ------------ This is not War... This is pest control - Dalek Sek

Let's not forget range...
Large artillery turrets have like 4 or 5 times the range of small artillery turrets. It makes quite a difference, compare shooting stuff from 100km to slowboating 80km (really really slow, once you're in ships which can fit large turrets) and then shoot stuff from 20km. =AFK=

Also, larger turrets have a native damage increase over other turrets. Small ammo do 1x damage, medium ammo do 2x (I think) and large do 4x (or somesuch). I think there's something like that, so Large turrets do far more damage than small, while still keeping the same damage modifier in the info panel.

don't forget, bigger ships have more weapon high slots.
larger guns have better range.
so yes the dps might be the same with smaller targets but you have to get into range. so you have to be fast.
smaller fast ships have less weapons.
so less guns, less dps.
but yes eve is wonderful becuase even small guns do good damage!
