I am a starting player. So to make a little ISK, I salvage and loot my wrecks and sell the parts that I do not need or want. I recently sold an item that was really worth about 30000 ISK, but somehow the person bought the item for 10000 times 30000 ISK. So my questions are: Should I offer to return the money? Should I tip the person half of the money back and let that be a lesson learned for their mistake? Or just keep it and use it to advance myself?
The reason I am asking this from the community is because since I am new to this game, I do not know what the proper etiquette is. I feel that I should feel blessed to have that much ISK for just starting out. Thank you.

You got a free $300m based on another users error. If the person has sent you mail by now, just be happy with the money. If that much really meant a great deal to the person, they would want to know how they lost $300m isk on a item whose market value is only $30k

I'd suggest submitting a petition, in case it was an isk farmer trying to sell off his isk to someone else, and got you instead. Better to have it removed from your account now, then later after you have spent it.

Keep the money. Use it as you see fit. Someone else's mistake is your good fortune.

Yes, $300m and no emails from the person. I am assuming they know they made a mistake and rather take the loss.
Jolaqa: That would not be fair. I am being honest by playing the game as intended and not cheating (buying ISK from ISK farmers). Besides, I do not see a point in buying ISK for real money, what is the point of playing then?

Besides, I do not see a point in buying ISK for real money, what is the point of playing then? I will petition for "just in case" it was a ISK farmer giving me the ISK in error. But I have spent some ISK on skills already.
Shadarle: I will do that. I have been buying skills with the ISK.
Jeremy Paxman: What is the norm for a trader (if I was a trader)? Do not divulge your trade secrets? Sorry.
Honestly, work something out with the guy if he asks, but otherwise, the ISK is yours, as he (apparently) paid what he wanted for the items.

Certainly do not offer him to give back his money, as you would probably embarrass him by offering him ISK that is now yours. I've lost 600m by a typo and I didn't even think about asking the ISK back.

I had the same thing happen to me just recently. I filed a petition (Suggest you do the same.) and am watitng for a GM reply. The ISK is yours to keep for sure if it was a mistake by the buyer, but as there's a possibility it was obtained by illegal means, you're better off telling a GM about it than having your wallet put 300 million ISK below zero thinking you're a part of a money laundering operation.
Out of curiosity, what were the buyers initials?

Keep the money... I mean worst that can happen is you make some new enemies and that's part of the fun
300 mil isn't that huge thing for long term players ...
I guess there are different types of players ... some are way too honest, some try to be honest to a degree and some just go and steal everything from their corporation. Most people agree that Eve is cold and harsh realm where only thing that matters is looking out for yourself. Only thing that returning the money might do is prove that your honest and fair player... This might be useful if you're into some sort of business that benefits from good PR. Regular player is better off by keeping the money. If you can live with yourself that is.
Even tho you now got all this money that you could use to buy bigger ships (battleship for example) I suggest you still play with the smaller ships in order to properly learn the game. It takes long time to get skills learned and without proper skills the ship isn't that great especially in PVP situation.

I had this a few times, too. GM reply on one very high transaction was, I could keep that money or give it back, it were my decision.
Some use this way to transfer money from a throw away test-account. It has not necessarily to do with money laundry. Often people are not paying attention to the way the market works and use regionwide setting instead of station only and/or simply right click on one entry that is ridiculously high, but the lowest supplier catches the deal then.
Petition it to be on the safe side.
Keep the money, if the person does not contatc you on his own. Someone not missing 300m proably doesn't need it. :-) If the person does contact you, decide on how polite the request to give the money back is. If the person threatens you, keep the money in every case. You can hire mercenaries to protect you with that kind of money, and learn some PVP this way on the fly. --
