I'd prefer some type of auto-fit a loadout on a ship and have that export/importable for external tools like EFT, etc.
Sort of like it buying things from a inventory station back in Tribes or Tribes 2.
You'd select, hit apply and it would pull what it could from the hangar you're at.

I would like this:
- All overview settings in a file (something like "overview.ini"). - Overview settings shared by all accounts/characters in that client. ________________________________________

YES, definitely. Every time after a patch I have to re-set containers all over the world. It's annoying and needless. -------------------------------------------------- I'm a rich person. How I know? I can afford to be a miner. |

Overview settings are the most important, because they get constantly broken and take like a half hour to reconstruct.
Next on the list: window positions and settings.

The simple fact how often the word "patch" appears in this thread speaks for itself... sadly!

QFT. I seem to only loose the setting on one computer though... odd.
/me knocks on wood that my main computer doesn't loose all the overview and container arangements next patch.

I would prefer a prioritised list...
In order from my most preferred to not-so-most preferred:
- Bookmark folders
- Buddy folders
- Overview filters
- Overview states
- Window positions (now including overview positions as well)
- Drone groups
- Settings -> General Settings
- Settings -> Message Suppressions
- Settings -> Keyboard Shortcuts
- Settings -> Common Graphics Settings

While just rclick->fit ship like this may seem like a good idea.
...I cry at making it into a 'Use this fitting, here take this xml, buy the stuff in it and it will auto fit to your ship upon rclick and youll have the uber fit, cant go wrong, no worries.' and would consider it a bad idea due to further 'this is the setup you should be using, nothing else realy works' homogenisation(sorry for spelling). Part of the fun is learning to fit your ship on your own.
While saving client side settings like overview settings, window positions(possibly a 'arrange my windows according to my 'fleet bs setting' would be cool), drone folders, bookmark folders(!!!) and general settings(gfx settings/audio/shortcuts/etc) to make it easy to switch from 'Good looking mode' to '15bit graphics fleet battle' settings in the blink of an eye.

But what about server-side settings, such as ship fittings, which would allow you to re-fit a ship by importing an XML file? You could also more easily brag about your setup by posting the XML file.
Just do what people need and leave the bells and whistles for when you have time later. Were talking about repetitive tasks, which ship fitting is not.
Give us -Overview Settings -Window Position and Size -Drone Windows -Bookmark and Friendlist folders -Hardware settings (sound on/off, turret gfx on/off, occluded ships, fullscreen.) -Message suppression
Cover those and you will never hear people complain again. - - - Originally by: CCP Garthagk While these forums may not give you everything that you want, they will usually let you post.

I was just thinking about this the other day -- it would be great if you could save your ship fittings, but one important component of that would be the ability to buy a fully fit ship: select a fitting, hit a buy button, and get presented with a final bill listing all the items and whether they're available in the local station/system/region. For bonus points, add an optional checkbox to have it take into account modules you have in your hangar.
Beside this, the only other setting that I'd love to see saved is Overview settings -- configuring that thing is painful, and it would be great to be able to share preconfigured setups.
Most other things seem pretty easy to quickly configure (graphics settings, window positions, etc).

Yeah, but part of the not-fun is buying 3-4 identical ships and fittings and having to fit them each manually. People are already looking up fittings here/scrapheap/wherever and just copying blindly. All you're saving is having to manually fit each module to your ship, which seems like a good thing given that blowing up ships is a large part of this game... ---- Isidien |

Folders in peeps and places, overview settings, window positions, drone groups (if that's client side) - all of it
If nothing else an easy thing might be to just make a backup of the client side data set on successful shutdowns, since it is just a directory and some files. Although XML or simialr would be nice so corps could share overview settings and what not for wars and such and we could import/export them.
I have waited since late beta for a button that would save the clientside stuff. I have lost count of how many times I have had to re-do everything.
To be fair, I did play from a netcafT a while, and that REALLY opened my eyes to the PITA it was...
Can we please have a "SAVE" button, or possibly an export button. Would also help IMMENSELY if I could simply have an XML-file I could use to share my overviews.

Funny, had this conversation with a corpmate last night. Not being able to store settings server side used to be a minor issue. But with so much being fixed already, this is more important now.
I would like to be able to store folders, overview settings, my responses to those stupid popup questions, and uh.. market quickbar? _______________________________ Complex Fullerene Shards; why God? :| |

These are definitely the primary things I'd love to export/import. Especially since lately my Local window keeps resetting itself after logging off then logging back in and I can't reproduce it, it seems to happen randomly. :( __________

While I didn't read the entire thread to see if this came up already. I skipped to the end when I saw something about settings XML files to import and export fitting kits people might use and lose a lot. I was thinking the other day during a fleet fight, why can't we reload an entire rack to the same ammo in one go. It's a bit of a pain to have to reload 6,7,8 guns depending on BS, in warp, with system load and stress from having 400+ ships in a system. Then have to reload sensor boosters and tracking computers based on these short/long range setups. Why can't we make a charge load out so we flip one switch instead of 11 or 13 depending on how many mods we have active.
p.s. no this isn't my main.

Absolutely secondary.
I think that better information about what *should/has* to be saved on the client would help a lot of people.
If you want to save your folders, weapon layouts (not weapon loads, but things like moving modules to others slots), log ons and all that client stuff, then you should tell people to save the contents of "C:\Documents and Settings\{logon}\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings".
The OP didn't ask about an import/export of load outs, why try and even push it that way, all he/she asked for was a simple way to save client settings and restore them.
Stop trying to push features that you might think are cool, but no one is asking for. --

Are weapon layouts really client-side? Doesn't that sort of thing have to be on the server?
And specifically, I want to get the hell out of the M$ Hierarchy. I want to be able to have all those settings saved, preferably automatically. I want it be one place, and I want it to be a place I tell it to go. It used to be trivial; I would just make a copy of the EVE folder when I was done playing.

I'm going to say that it counts as an implicit request on my part. I was particularly frustrated about the issues in my original post, but I have buckets full of UI issues. When we're in-game we should be in-game, not fooling about with the interface. I am glad to have any dev in on the topic of UI upgrades.

The load out is on the server, but where you move the modules to in space, i.e. their position on the display is stored client side.

I whole heartedly agree with what you want, 1 button press and like magic there is a file with everything in there. Maybe something like a simple zip of the settings folder and the restore button to do the same thing in reverse. --
