If they thought the game would have any staying power, we'd be seeing it coming out for PC. No, not really - PC games are too easy to hack / make (aim)bots for; And in an FPS that is utterly gamebreaking.
Console games are easier to moderate in that respect. Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

Sad but true. The thing is, as much as I hate to admit it, consoles are an ideal platform due to the controlled environment. The only downside consoles ever had was lack of mouse/keyboard control for FPSs. Now it appears CCP is going to fix that.
Outstanding.

I'm not holding my breath until I see either a PC release or a PC variant of Dust 514 for us EVE players.
Oh and an assurance of no micro-transactions too.

Willing to bet the mouse speed will be limited to stick speed first of all, which means using a mouse in dust will be just like using one of many third party products you can already buy to use a mouse and kb for FPS on consoles.
This translates into counter intuitive mouse use for a FPS, small precise twitch movements wont translate into the same action as in a true FPS. With the adapters such movements translate from what would be a sudden 180 turn into the cursor barely moving causing players to have to use long exaggerated movements rather than small precise ones.
Mind you it will probably still help with aiming for the stick impaired but don't expect a true mouse driven fps experience. The advantage of a bad memory is that one can enjoy the same good things for the first time several times.
One will rarely err if extreme actions be ascribed to vanity, ordinary actions to habit, and mean actions to fear. |

I agree and think they should release stand alone versions of Dust 514 on the consoles and keep the full thing on the PC, it just isn't going to work otherwise.

Why would you think that? Other PS3 FPS's have used mouse/keyboard controls that act no different than PC controls since 2007.
There is no reason for them to gimp the mouse/keyboard scheme for Dust.

They'll do it because there will be a bunch of complaining customers about how they're getting pwned because they haven't bought a mouse like everyone else, halo 2 did cross-platform support and to fix the problem they gave console players auto-aim so it meant all the PC players were at a complete disadvantage since they actually had to aim in order to get kills.

Yeah, that all sounds great but CCP have previously said the the Keyboard and Mouse will have full support for CORP CHAT CHANNELS. So I won't be holding my breath until either CCP says the Mouse can be used for aiming ( which this article does NOT say ) or we get our hands on a beta key. |

The only reason they're making Dust 514 is to make money out of gullible people like you when it's obvious just how easy it would be for CCP to make the game for the PC as well and release it as an expansion.

this way they get both. pc gamers will usually drop more cash on a gfx card (when it's time to replace) than what a ps3 costs. if the gameplay is any good i can see pc gamers buying a ps3 just for dust.

In every iteration of FPSs attempting to pit PC against console gamers, the PC gamers roflstomped the console gamers due to the advantages of the mouse/keyboard. |

that the question I wanted answered. How sure are you about this, because it sounds awesome. Although just how I can play dust on a ps3 with a mouse in the living room is a question. I think this will need some DIY work - [yellow]English only please. Zymurgist[/yellow] |

100%. Baring some dev with a vendetta out to cause damage deleting all the code allowing this on the day before it goes out, it will be there. If you look at the original article (the one of dust514base, not Joystiq) we've got some confirmation from CCP. Alternatively you can look on twitter for CCP Jian, the executive producer for DUST 514, who tweeted to confirm that it's in after people didn't believe me. (To be honest, I didn't know whether to be offended or be happy that they might have a chance at surviving in EVE).
As far as mouse in the living room, I haven't tried it but I would assume that wireless mice work perfectly well with PS3s. Same with wireless keyboards. Even more so if you've got a Bluetooth mouse/keyboard, as the PS3 has a built in adapter (it's what the controllers and wireless headsets use). http://www.dust514.org - the unofficial forum for everything DUST 514 http://www.dust514base.com - the blog site with everything else DUST 514 you need

My guess is they'd seperate the two methods.
You cant have 1 team using the standard controller and the opponents using KBaM, its crazy to even contemplate it.
If its all being played out on a single server - tranquility - they cant seperate in the true sense, but they would be able to limit lobbys to only KBaM or only Controller. http://roxwar.blogspot.com/ |
