Greetings fellow space travelers.
I've ran into alot of trouble lately with L2 missions like "Gone Berserk" and "The Blockade". I simply CANT do them. I've tried in my Retribution (didnt work) and then in my Maller (didnt work either).
What am i doing wrong? It shouldnt be a problem for me should it? I mean the thing thats kicking my ass in "the blockade" are those ******* Tracking Distruptors.
How do i counter those? Using Missiles? Well what ship should i fly then?
ANY feedback would be nice.

yes those tracking disruptors are nasty.
you can try a vengeance whit missiles... light missiles should work great against them. and retri has a quite good tank aswell :) ---------------------------------- Seems that there's a new game that seems to be very popular whit whiners these days. Its called EFT Online.

Use a missile based or drone platform if they are using mainly tracking disruptors.

yeah mate, as long as you're getting Disrupted, your turrets are just fancy appendages :( see if you can sustain the tank - don't waste energy firing at them while you're disrupted - once you can see that they're not disrupting you anymore, do your damnedest to take the guilty beggar down before he gets another cycle in.
Pay attention to transversal velocity too - you can usually *force* your guns to hit if you can get a really low transversal value - either by flying parallel, straight at or away from the target. Easiest ways to do this are to
a) Chase, b) try to match speed (if he's orbiting you, then you'll fly parallel) or c) flee
A) is probably the best and most agressive option, as you close to your now gimped optimal range, and he flies directly away from you, giving you 0 transversal.
Now, once you have this near 0 transversal, try to close the range to your now-gimped optimal range - and no closer - as this will make things more difficult for your guns to track. shoot the beggar, you should score some hits this way.
can someone link this fella to the tracking guide please? if he hasn't browsed thru it already that is :)

Well, a missile-based ship would be the easiest solution, if you're running into heavy tracking disruptor spammage. Fortunately, you're in luck since the Amarr now have some nice missile platforms. Sure, they are close-range, but they do work for missions (yes, tested them on missions myself :).
If you have the skillpoints and cash for a Sacrilege, it's very nice -- but it's likely you can't fly one yet, and in any case a HAC for lvl2s is serious overkill.
My suggestion would be to use a Vengeance, with rockets. I've done a pile of lvl3 missions with it (though I do have a ton of skillpoints, which helps). Doing lvl2s with it should work out fine.
Fit rockets (t2 if you can), armor tank, and rocket type to match the NPC weakest resists. Go in and orbit at very close range (1-3km) and spam rockets. It works, and like I said is doable with lvl3 missions too.
The only problems I had were doing some mission which had stasis webber towers. That was nasty.
If you don't have missile skills yet, don't worry. The basics are fast to train for, and you'll find use for them on lots of other ships too.

Arbitrator loaded with light and medium drones, drone link augmentor, missile launcher and 2x beams with long range crystals works very well. Aggro the NPCs on your ship with your launcher and guns then unleash your drones on them. Use tech II drones if you have the skills and micromanage them during the mission so that npcs don't kill any. Rats pop rather quickly from tech II hobgoblins and hammerheads and all from about 50km range (max lock range on my arbi is 52km, drone control range is 60km with the link fitted). Tracking disruptors aren't going to be that much of a nuisance because most of your damage will come from the drones.

Yes, Arbitrator is another good option, if you want to go the drones route.

I havn't done lvl 2 or 3's in ages, but here is my old old Maller setup.
High: Focused Medium Pulse. Med: AB, Web and cap. Low: Mar, Sar, hardners and more cap.
Trick is to fly towards the enemies, you can sustain the tank + ab and tank + guns. When you are in range, web them and eat them alive. Works best against cruisers. If they are to fast, move in parallel with the rat (assuming you are not webbed) to reduce transversal, fit long range crystals so you can reach them and then kill them. Go for the TD ships first ofcourse. I don't think the Maller setup works anymore, as it's pre revalation. But the tactic still works.

Edited by: Flurren on 28/12/2007 19:27:45 Tracking disruptors only reduce your tracking and optimal range by a percentage, if you have a web and limit your transversal by flying towards and away from your current target you still shouldnt have a problem hitting the rats and you will still maintain some transversal against the ones you arent shooting.

Use a drake with assault launchers.
I tried and tried and tried to best a Caldari ship with an [insert race here] ship for missions, and just couldn't.
Drake w/appropriate missile types will spank all level 2 & 3 missions easy.
Overkill FTW. Just don't use a Battleship in anything less than a lvl 4 it'll actually be harder and slower. -- Support fixing the EVE UI | Suggest Jita fixes

Here is where you go wrong: you are not using a drake. As said above with proper skills, proper setup it eats trough lvl 2-3 missions like they're chocolate cookies.
Well for one I am caldari so I have the advantage for already being more specialised towards shields/missiles but with my drake I can do the blockade lvl 3 effective quality 38 without a sweat... In fact last time I did it I remembered I had to go the the toilet so i did, while all those nice battlecruisers were tossing missiles at my well fitted passive drake.
The only mission I have had problems with is Kidnappers case 10 of 10 last pocket, you don't really use a drake against battleships, it wont die, but your dps wont quite cut it without proper missile skills.
But also I sense a nerf comming up as many people are whining about the drakes passive tanking capabilities.

For the last pocket of Kidnappers you aren't intended to kill the battleships there. I just kill the initial agro and then get close to the central structure, blow it quick, loot the cargo and warp out. You can even come back later and loot/salvage your initial agro kills in this room without trouble. Truth is Truth |

From your character portrait, it looks like you are Amar. I'm down around Tash-Murkon and Kor-Azor regions. Convo me in game and I'll be happy to give you a hand on those missions.

poor amarr, a caracal with hardly any SP can do level 2 missions sleep walking :(
if you want to run missions a lot simply train caldari, it's easy. ________________ the way back home is always long, but if you're close to me i'm holding on. |
