I notice that very few of the wide variety of ships are listed on the website.
There is a distinct lack of frigates, the ship class most accessible to new players. If new players are going to browse the ships, they should be able to find ships that they can have a reasonable expectation to fly relatively soon. Tech twos, Tech threes and caps are great, but they probably won't be flying those for at least a year if not much longer.
Are there any plans to include the rest of the ships to that page? |

I am more wodnering why some browsers cant see the ships at all but they can see the engine trails instead.
Most of the openGL websites work.

Most of the openGL websites work.
One reason: HTML 5
Edit: and maybe 30 other HTML 5 errors within that page.
I realize you do not need to have an error free page to work on most browsers, p*ss on i.e. 5 6 7. But if you want to reach an as widest audience as possible, you should be very careful introducing new stuff like HTML 5, a lot of old browsers have trouble with. That it works on your laptop doesn't mean it works on your neighbors laptop. You have to cut the ops team some slack, trolling the player base with made up downtime estimates is the only fun they get around here.-á(CCP Nullarbor) |

He, I wish I could. Sadly some people still live in the dark ages using IE 5, or 6. :3
Edit: already happy my mom uses on most occasions FF. She doesn't understand why, and feels no need to use a different PW where ever she needs a new PW. She just keeps using the same, easy to guess one. I can stand on my head and stamp with my feet, but it won't change nothing.
Only MS could kill the abomination called IE... You have to cut the ops team some slack, trolling the player base with made up downtime estimates is the only fun they get around here.-á(CCP Nullarbor) |

I dropped fire fox when the bad advertisers (the ones that try to upload virus or fakeware to your computer) brute forced over the add block and destroyed my OS for a few days. IE 505'd the page out somehow and UAL the hell out of the request.
Though i have yet to experince anythign similar with chrome yet.

Back to what the OP said, I am a bit conflicted. I do think that there could be more ships of more classes but I think before that happens the navigation needs to be fixed a bit. As it stands right now it is really easy to get lost in that series of numerous single-item tree branches. Yes, you can switch to a flat list but that provides no context for new people and is thus mostly useless.
I'm not sure what the best way is but I think moving the ship info or something so the list has the full height of the page is a start. If you're going to only have one ship per category, why even have multiple levels there, just add the ship name to the right of the category. Either way, that list needs love before more ships are added.
Also, adding something that gives the viewer some sort of scale between the ships would be really helpful to convey an aspect about EVE that is rare even in other space MMOs. Right now you can't really tell that a battleship is smaller than a titan unless you read the tech details. |

Give em some time bro, it's an accomplishment to get that high quality of a render in a browser in the first place.
More will come, you can't expect it all to be there right off the bat. |

More will come, you can't expect it all to be there right off the bat. That's not the half of it. I actually have some questions about that so I'll just put them here and see if anyone can answer them...
Gogela wrote:The ship viewer on the new site is awesome. I was wondering if I could make something like that happen on my silly little IGB site (links in sig) but I have a few questions before I get started:
- Is it OK to use CCP's technology here? It looks like some kind of skin file is pulled onto the model frame... is this skin taken directly from the in-game assets and if so where might I go to read up on how this is done?
- Barring the technical problems with me actually creating additional models to support unpublished ships, if in-game textures are required to finish these models would that be in violation of CCPs licencing?
- Textures aside, did CCPs web designers have to re-create all the volumemetric (essentially re-build each model!) in the .cube file? Are you using some variant of Jmol to do this? Do I even know what I'm talking about? (probably not...)
- What are you using to compile the finished .cube file?
- Should I just forget about this?
Any thoughts, even trolls, are welcome. Looking for a starting point or a stop order....

Yes! The current sites are just a first step, though an exciting and big one. More content and functionality will be added in the following months.
Please keep feedback and questions about the new Websites in the official feedback thread, thank you. CCP Phantom - German Community Coordinator |
