Edited by: Tienn Xyns on 30/12/2007 18:17:27 Hi..
I've gone through most of everything on these forums now but I'm having a little trouble figuring out exactly how well it all works at this point.
Can I get an update on the issues that are affecting everyone at this time and a suggestion which way to go(either wine or official). And if there are any patches for wine that are still needed at this point...
Also how playable is EVE really? It's hard to tell because I don't know if people are having issues that can be explained by some local error or if these things are all related and I can expect them as well(particularly the crashing.. what's the deal at this point with wine/cedega).
I'm seeing some sound issues.. have these been resolved but there are still a few people with some local problems or are there any global sound issues?
That's about all I can think of for now... Oh and, I'm sorry, I know this post seems like I'm too lazy to read but it's a bit hard to sort out which problems can affect me and I just wanted a little summery here.
(on a side note, please don't post all the issues that have been reported... I'd like just the serious ones that STILL affect everyone even with the latest wine+patches and whatever...)
Thanks!

Ok.
Issues in using Wine (0.9.52 aka latest version). Premium. Large objects don't always display properly, this could be a station, stargate or freighter (oddly enough the Caldari one I docked at does display but the Minmatar and Gallente ones don't... meh). Normal. None that I've noticed.
Issues with Cegeda. Premium. Doesn't work. End of. Wait until Q1 2008.
Normal. Can be a little crash happy, seems to be related to Cegeda's JPG/PNG generation routines... this could be a red herring though.
Using Ubuntu 7.10 on my Dell XPS laptop I've had no issues with sound, frame rates are steady at 35fps in premium with HDR & Bloom turned on. No patches are currently required for wine but it is sensible to run the game in its own window using a command similar to: WINEDEBUG=-all wine explorer /desktop=EVE,1600x1080 "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe" just so that if it all goes horribly wrong you aren't locked out of the desktop.
Personally I'd go with Wine, however if you want official support and official patches the Cegeda wrapped client is the only way to go.

Just one more thing.. how's the crashing under wine/cedega for the normal/premium client? I see a lot of improvement in the wine part.. is it stable now?

I'd say that Premium under wine is as stable as it is under Windows.

Just a touch ;)
I was in a round-a-bout sorta way saying "It falls over occasionally just like Windows does".
