Edited by: Cpt Branko on 03/01/2008 13:12:42 Well, something like this: Highs: 3x 150mm AC II 1x rocket launcher
Mids: 1x 1mn AB (cold-gas or T2) 1x web (patterned is OK for missions) 1x cap recharger (obviously replace for a scram if killing people)
Lows: 1x SAR II 1x 200mm rolled tungsteen plate 1x EANM I or DC I
Will breeze through L1s and a similar fit is useful for PvP (just with a scram). Plus you'll learn a bit about Rifter piloting in general.

Edited by: Cpt Branko on 03/01/2008 13:24:45 EANM is a Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane, gives you armour resists across the board. The DC is of course a Damage Control, gives you shields/armour/structure, but less armour then the EANM. Handier if you have to warp out and are taking too much damage to handle though; if you are certain what you're doing, a EANM serves you better.
SAR II is a Small Armor Repairer II. 200mm RT plate means 200mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsteen plate, which is the best named plate and better then T2.
If you are unfamiliar with using the SAR, well, essentially, do this: when you start taking armor hits, turn it on (or pulse it by turning it off and on); turn it off at about 30% cap and pulse it after that when you have the spare cap.
Rifters gank the hell out of L1 mission NPCs, so tank is not much of an issue. Remember do load up on high-damage ammo (EMP S / Fusion S / Phased Plasma S are all good with EMP doing the most raw damage).

I started out with a rifter too for L1's and some L2's too. I used a passive shield tanked fit, something like:
[Rifter] Gyrostabilizer II Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I
Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction M51 Iterative Shield Regenerator
150mm Light 'Scout' Autocannon I 150mm Light 'Scout' Autocannon I 150mm Light 'Scout' Autocannon I 'Arbalest' Rocket Launcher I
Should do any L1 with no trouble at all, and some L2 missions are doable too, atleast once you got above average skills. You can probably pick cheaper shield relays if you're short on cash or afraid to lose the ship, without affecting the performance much. Also you can try rat specific passive resistance amp instead of the recharger, which might give you a slightly better tank at times. Also another option is drop 1 relay for another gyro atleast for easier missions, or until you reach L2.
