Edited by: Eightyseven on 08/01/2008 01:16:11 Hi. I'm really new to this game (like 2 hours playing time new) and I was wondering if it were possible for some of the players in this community to link any beginner guides that would be of help to newbies? Like this whole corporation thing, whats that? And what is the purpose of it? And where does everyone go to hang out? Am i making sense? Perhaps not.
Anyway, if there are any guides that could really help, please point me in the right direction. Thanks!
P.S. I've read the beginner guide on the forums but if theres anything more, you know. Thanks

Have you done all of the tutorials? I can't emphasize how important they are for learning the ropes of the game. ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |

(1) READ THE POP UP WARNINGS
(2) Don't cry, it's only a ship; you'll get more.
(3) Don't accept gang from anyone you don't know.
(4) Join a corp and get out of hi-sec before your first month is up.
(5) If you don't know, ask. (I'm still doing this after 15 months)
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

Do the tutorial first.
Then read this. It is chock-full of helpful information for a SEASONED EVE PILOT. It does not contain informative nuggets on how to make TONS AND TONS of money your first day.
There is no magic 8 ball in EVE. And if there was, I'd have it. _________________ Burn. |

You might want to check out Hammer's Eve. It may be a bit out of date but you'll likely find some good info there: http://hammer-eve.blogspot.com

Try flying around and exploring. Dock at stations. Fly to asteroid belts, look at the pirate ships (rats), and run away before they shoot you. Mine veldspar. Chat with people on the Corp and Local channels. Do the missions from the first agent your tutorial sets you up with.
To answer your question: corporations are organizations of players. The smaller ones just do things together, such as running missions and mining. Often you can make more money if you cooperate, for example, a couple people mining while the other fights off rats. The bigger ones may have organized finances, starbases of their own, and diplomatic agreements with other corporations.
When you begin the game you are in an NPC corporation with other newbies... though some are experienced players using their 2nd or 3rd account. The Corp chat channel can thus be a useful source of advice. I recommend looking for a corporation to join after your first few days. They will show you the ropes and involve you in the things they think are fun.

Do the tuts.
Ask polite questions in the newb corp chat channel (not rookie help. Rookie help is full of bears. Bears will eat you.)

There is only one step you need to take and that is:
When you are in-game open the channel "Help" and start reading what others have typed. When I first came to this game I had a lot of question but no one to answer, then someone told me to head to this channel and I did.
Now I'm one more step to becoming a Advanced Newbie.
Have to warn you though, you might see the same question been asked over and over again.

What! Never compare to WoW? Hrmmph! In WoW I could sit on a bird and fly around, looking from side to side and viewing all my surroundings in beautiful colors!!!
Since no one has mentioned it yet.... understand what skills and attributes do. The higher your attributes, the faster you learn skills. You might consider starting your character with all attributes around 9, except charisma, which is not as important as the other four. I started with 3 charisma and 9 in the 4 others. Each skill is based upon two attributes, one more important than the other. I suggest you understand all of this at least somewhat before you settle into your character. Many players concentrate early on learning the Learning skills, as these boost your attributes which means learning all the other skills will take less time.

Join the in-game chat channel Eve University, ask your questions in there; you might want to join the corp going by the same name as well. It's a good place to start. It was for me, at any rate. That was a long time ago, but I'm sure they're still going strong.
This will help you more than anything.

-Do the tutorials, it's for your own good and most people will flat out refuse to help unless you show willing to help yourself first.
-Trust no one and assume everyone out here is just in it for the money and the chance to kill you, paranoia = survivability.
-Don't fly what you can't afford to lose and get used to loosing ships often.
-Lowsec really isn't that bad provided you're paying attention and take some precautions.
Also, well since I'm part of EvE Uni it's required I plug this place to at least 5 new people a day or face 50 lashes.
Anyway EvE uni is a training corp set up with the sole purpose of training noobs like us in how to play the game (or just run missions, depends if you hate yourself or not).
If you are interested you can join the ingame chat channel "Eve University" just open the channels and mailing lists button ingame (it's close to the bottom on the neocom list to the left) and click the join button then input the name minus the quote marks. The channel will let you ask about the uni and how to play and better yet unlike rookie help your questions do get answered occasionally.
