i gotta stick my oar in on the twice as fast argument.
i agree that having one highly skilled pilot in a pimped out ship paired with a less skilled pilot in a t1 or t2 fitted ship, when both are fitted to solo, will take longer than half the time for the pimped guy.
but i find it very hard to believe that the pimped out solo rig will find a slower than half completion time when paired with a ganker. you tank, i gank, and between us i'm sure were gonna finish the mission in under half the time.
try flying with a team mate in my patented "ceptorthron", its got 7 t2 neuts, 1 t2 ab, 3 webbers, 3 t2 dmg mods and 3 speed mods (was nano's in RMR, not looked at if thats changed yet), and 1 low and 1 high slot spare for what you want. oh and all the rigs spare, they didnt exist when i flew this baby.
that ship when i was using nano's was just as agile as a deimos, and could web the pesky spider drones down to under 10m/s, they pop kinda fast at that speed when you hit em with the neuts. of course with the gank fitting the BS's go down very fast too, and you can hit everything in between and move about the mission with speed and agility.
now, i dont know about the speed/agility thing since Trinity, i heard nano's wern't the same. so maybe its a choice of speed or agility. but the gank will still help the pimped out soloer kill things a lot faster and bring the completion time down by more than half. well, assuming the cepterthron doesnt use the gate first and have to bug out
so, trust issues aside, when two players pair up and compliment each others ships then i'm sure there will be the opportunity for faster completion times. i know when i wasnt soloing in my dual repped apoc and had a wingman to do the tanking missions just flew past with my cepterthron Because sometimes you just have to go back to your roots: [2005.02.20 01:08:03] (combat) Your Civilian Light Electron Blaster perfectly strikes Serpentis Smuggler, wrecking for 20.3 damage. |

I should clarify the group running thing. I run missions very fast; most missions take around ten minutes to complete. I'm not looking for other players to help me out. Not anymore, anyway. But I've travelled along with other players and I know their dps is way less than mine.
My irritation is therefore that there aren't any large and active corps full of mission runners co-operating until they are able to solo l4. There are a number of noob corps, and eve-uni as the largest, but they tend to be focussed on PVP. If people co-operated from the outset they would get much more from Eve in general. I see people who have stayed in the original NPC corp since day 1. Man that must be painful.

Have to say that running missions together with alliance/corp mates (and getting to know them over TS) really helped with a little war dec we got a few weeks back. The core of our PvP crew was the Lvl4 mission runners; we were used to each other and accepted FC direction etc. as natural casue we were used to it from mission running.
OFC we used radically different ships and setups for PvP, apart from one unfortunate who lost his faction fitted BS on the 1st night of the war, prompting some of the best local smack i've ever heard

I myself have 3 chars that have been in original NPC corp since day 1 and it is not painful at all I assure you. Quite the opposite, it would be painful if I did NOT have them ;)
There is no 'n' in turret There is no 'r' in faction There is no 'a' in Scorpion There is no 'e' in Caldari There is no makeup in rogue drones |

Obviously I wasn't counting those who have another account with an alt. It doesn't matter what corp that character is in. I mean those real life people who have played eve for years and never joined a corp.

This is my main, more than 2 years in STI - the starter NPC corp and it isn't hell by any means. There are people there I've know since I started, or they did. We help each other out with missions, gear, knowledge, etc. No, I don't trust everyone there, don't even talk to most of them except to answer newbie questions. However, there's a core group who do trust each other, do help each other out. Every so often one of us wanders off or a newbie sticks around and joins the "old farts". It's a long, long way from hell for those of us who don't want to deal with war decs and corp taxes and CEOs bossing folks around but still want to have friends in game.
I also have 5-9 RL friends who play (depending on who's playing this month - sabbatical happens) and we help each other out and gang up for missions, mining and industry.
Check my bio for missile and drone BPCs in Caldari space. |
