Edited by: Chemical Castration on 09/01/2008 11:53:56 Just curious.
I'd love to see what people really want to see for a free lottery. (The next free lotto is in the planning now, beside the one already up)
Just think of something, something worth up to 100mil isk that a newer player could use. Anything and everything!
If you don't need it, let us know what you would have LOVED to have when you were a new player!
Thanks for helping out, and hope you enjoy our current and future lottos.
A note for contributing: We'll toss, say, 100,000 isk for every valid idea. So go ahead and post, if it's well thought out you'll get some free ISK. (Limited time, depending on funds of course)

I'm sure it's an obvious idea, but as a new player I can say, all I care for right now are T2 mining lasers and an Osprey. All the time I see people with humongous, intricate, beautiful beasts of space, and I keep going "Holy sh--, where do I get that!" Money is cool but it's pretty fun to make it on your own aswell, and since it comes in such insane abundance (and is so easy to get, even for noobs like myself), it'd more fun to have some fancy equipment, like a ship pre-equipped to the reciever's wish.
My second idea would be a professional's instructions in whatever the winner so desires. Assuming it's a new player, nothing's more cool then sliding around in some little frigate with a Battleship pilot next to you showing you the ropes. Scanning, cloaking, rigs and so much else is still a huge mystery to me, not to mention what goes on in low-security space (pirate raids? Moon mining? Player-Owned-Structures? T2 blueprints? Not to mention I have -no- idea how to set up my ship to be a mining goddess, with all the slots and boosters and agumentations and afterburner this warp scrambler that) and to have someone to watch over you or give expert advice is worth all the ISK in the world. ^^
--Regards,
I'm a miner, short and stout, I mine in 0.4 and then warp out. |

Good info. I'll send you 100k isk once the servers come back up.
Personally, I can walk people through how 0.0 works, (and how to get into a 0.0 corp) how lowsec works - especially how DANGEROUS is it - and how to fit *most* ships. I can walk people through the scanner, staying safe, and even how to pirate effectively. I can do so on Ventrilo and have my own personal server, so might that be reasonable?
The idea of an equipped ship to the winner's wishes has come to my mind before. However, this can vary greatly - and can turn into a 200mil ship quickly. The problem with this is I have no problem whatsoever doing this for a new player, but there's no way to prevent an experienced player from figuring out the most expensive fitout and taking advantage of CLOTO's offers by just getting the most expensive fit possible and selling all the items.
Thanks for the contribution - expect some ISK soon!

Edited by: S3XXX on 09/01/2008 12:27:55 For me instruction isnt much of a problem(GO E-UNI!). But a little one-to-one low sec/0.0 training from people who are actually from lowsec/0.0 would be priceless.
Ships I agree with.
I reckon Implants would be really good too. Obviously not for people who go often into low sec. But for the new players who stay in empire, implants can really speed up the skill build up.

Well, it's near impossible to get podded in lowsec unless your computer locks up/gets lagged - which could happen I suppose.
I'd be more than happy to explain how to avoid EVER getting podded in lowsec. It doesn't ever have to happen.
A set of +3 implants is something I've considered as well. I'll toss you 100k isk for the contribution shortly.

I think a good auction aimed specifically at new players would be a set of Advanced Learning skills (Focus, etc.). If there was something I would have had earlier my skill progression would have been accelerated slighty :).

A free lottery is always good for people and new player can get introduced to them. Great move there.
As for prizes for the lottery well how about a ship BPO / BPC. There they have the satisfaction of winning something they can use but at the same time have to work a little to get the minerals. It's not too much :)
Other Ideas include a basic fitted ships. Kitted out kessies, merlins and the other frigs and cruisers.
Learning skill sets for a new player. Missle sets. Industry sets. With a ship fitted for each skill. Helps get a new player on their feet.
I'm not a new player but that would have been nice to have. Congrats to the you and the corp.
As for experienced players if they win why dont you give them POS fuel or stuff like the ice products.

Edited by: Saint Apathy on 09/01/2008 21:24:51 Ships. Fitted ships. Most newbies can barely buy their ship, let alone put on any of the good stuff on it.
Skills. The nice skills that are needed for just about everything (like learning skills) are worth millions. It's annoying coming up with that money and then having to choose whether you can effectively fly the ship or whether you can buy the damn thing.
Incidentally, it doesn't exactly have to cost anything. You could help people by taking them out and showing the tricks of the trade (like, pirating). Most of them will be trying to figure out why the scanner is useful at that point. If you told them where some good regions are, explained to them why some fittings are far better than others (just saying this one is the best isn't really good enough, because then they only know about that one fitting- if it's explained, then they know what to look for in ships, and can fit their own ships better later on).
Implants. This one would be mainly for the missions runners, as you aren't likely to get podded in high space when you are just starting out.
Alright, I didn't realise CCP was just like Blizzard with their forums. Log you off after like a minute of inactivity. It's almost as if you are being encouraged to say a single stupid paragraph that has nothing to do with the topic and then go your merry way.
Haha, this will teach me for not reading replies before posting.

i agree with the idea here : - +3 implants are nice (and hard to get at my lvl) - Ship : i LOVE the Phantasm ship that cost around 120M (I can drive it, but can't afford it atm)
But Newbe (like me) need plenty skills that cost 3M+ each (including the Advanced learning that cost 4.5M) : * 5 Advanced learning (4.5*5) : 22.5M * Pilot skills : Industrial, Cruiser, Medium Turret, Specialisation (racial skills) : 300k+500k+100k+1M * Destroyer, Battlecruiser : 100k+1M * miners skills (Mining barge, Exhumer, Astrogeo) : 500k+28M+450k * Freighter (racial) : 75M (eventually) = 54,450M (not including the freighter skill)
Other idea is the perfect XXXXX set : - Miner set : * miners kill listed before * Full equipped miner frigate (ie Bantam for Caldari) with Miner 2, MLU and Co-pro * Full equipped Osprey * Truck (ie Badger mark II for Caldari) with best named Cargo Hold, Tractor beam and so. * Retreiver with Strip miners
- Pilot / missioner set: * pilot skill listed before + salvage skill * equipped best frigate (with best named turret, tanking device and so) * destroyer equipped for salvaging * cruiser (with best named medium turrets)
- Research / industrial set * all science skills needed (i don't know, i am not one). * all low BPO tech I with good research already on them.
I haven't done the math but i think we can go near the 100M for each set (named meta lvl4 items cost allot). Anyway thx for helping new comers

It should be a few different prizes that you can choose from (all packages come with implants):
1) Mining: Fully fit T1 mining cruiser. Mining skill books. +2 Implants (im assuming there are mining implants, but can new players use those?) Token gift of ore. 2) Combat: Fully fit T1 combat cruiser Skill books in either Missiles/Gunnery, choice is the newbs. +2 Implants (again, assuming there are combat implants). Ammos.
etc, etc. Something that can get a new player onto his feet and out into space quickly, sort of a jumpstart.
note: Can i get 5mil if i guess the first letter of your main's name? I'm going to guess its a K.

Popular rigs maybe. The shield recharge ones for all the Drake pilots out there and maybe CCCs. First prize = 3x CCC, Second prize = 2x CCC, Third prize = 1x CCC? I am only partially familiar with how you run your auctions so I am just guessing on the prize structure.
Then of course implants. There may some noobs that'd like to get their hands on a full set of +1 or +2 implants, maybe with the Cybernetics skill.
And also skill packs. A complete set of hybrid gunner skills (small, med, large and all the spec skills for blasters and rails) might be good for those Amarrians that are cross training right now.
Lastly ships, ships, ships. Faction and T2 of course. Not sure what your budget for free lottos is.

Great ideas guys.
We've already had a couple more donations.
JiuTouNiao has contributed 1 million for the next free new player lotto, and Carthem is offering a 'newbie fleet' plus a bunch of BPCs.
Maybe a good idea would be some sort of big giveaway? Combine a lot of that stuff that people have suggested, from stuff we'll buy and donations.

Edited by: IDesert FoxI on 11/01/2008 16:54:41 How about a selection of the more useful, but more expensive skill books? This will be helpful for the new guy. Or maybe you could get the winner to pick a selection of skills he needs up to the value of 100mil? Maybe the skills for the assault frigate and full rack of t2 gear (and useful support skills) of their choice, with the assualt frigate thrown in.
Edit - supplying the winner with skills also stops the resale of prizes problem, as skill books are a fixed price generally.

Hm. I consider myself a fairly new player, but just a thought; While some things, like the advanced learning skill books, may sound like a good idea in theory (and it certainly is!), "fun stuff" could also be infinitely popular - and what better way to do that than to play sugar daddy?
Really. Set a price limit, 50 mill for example, and buy whatever that person wants up 'till that point! Perhaps handle shipping and such as well, if availibility is an issue. I can totally love the idea of talking to a representative of the Lotto going all "Hm.. A big cruiser! Can I have that? Please? Oh! And some of those guns, and that, and that.."
Incidentally, it'd also be a great moment to give advice, too. If someone requests some artillery to go with their drake, it'd be a great point to mention that fitting to go along skill bonuses is probably a good idea, and if they want a webifier where a webifier is a waste, tell them so!
Ooh. I got all caught up in this helping stuff now. :3
