I have downloaded and installed the client with premum graphic content for windows. I am getting the following error "insufficient privleges to install the required version of D3DX." I am running XP and meet the minimu system requiremetns and then some. Does anyone know what is causing this problem. I cannot play :(
Thank you

Look here:
D3Dx startup issue <-- click me!
But honestly, don't expect any info soon from CCP about it. I have this issue petitioned for over a week now and no reply - same with the forums postings too ...

In 4 years this has never happened to me, happened first yesterday, installed new drivers, reinstalled AND redownloaded game, tried to run game on seperate machine (with XP installed) and the game failed to update to trinity.
The trinity update is the cause of the error, CCP you owe it to PAYING CUSTOMERS to sort out this problem, there are multiple threads about this and the only support we recieve are simple suggestions which everyone should do in the first step of trouble shooting.
CCP, not impressed.

It seems to be just a problem with EVE doing a check for a properly installed D3DX.
Why doesn't CCP simply disable the check until it works for everyone?
Or provide us with a download link to a 'disarmed' version, for those who can't play otherwise!
It's 3 weeks for me now, I can't log in to my 2 accounts and my chars are sitting idle because training is finished !
C'mon CCP - get active on this!

Try this and see what you come up with, you might find than it's something simple you turned off:
Start > Run : dxdiag
this will open Microsoft's DirectX Diagnosis program. Run all the tests and see what comes up. I solved my issues with this when I realized I didn't have hardware acceleration turned up 100%.

Did you even read the thread before commenting? But yes, dxdiag is of course one of the first things one do if any DX related issue comes up. And all tests ran 100% good.

yea for your first run you have to run eve as an administrator so it can use a background installer to install some additional directX stuff or go into the Eve Directory and into the bin directory and run RedistD3DXOnly.exe as administrator. You will want to right click the file and choose run as and then type in a user/pass that is an administrator.

I know this might seem a bit simple but it worked for me after having the same problem as you. I tried everything, new drivers fresh installs of eve diagnostic checks, the works.
When you open the game and it minimized hit alt-enter and it brings it up full screen, then you can change it back to windowed mode or leave it works fine, went from having no clients to 3 running with two keys.
Hope this fixes it for you! _____________________________

Nobody at CCP seems to care about it. At least no response to my petition for 17 days in a row. It's been 5 weeks, i can not use the game now. So where is the refund, CCP ?

Thus far we've only received one bug report with anything useful in it about this issue.
We are working on a fix, and will deploy it as soon as it is ready and tested; however you can help speed things along by submitting a bug report yourself or asking anyone else you know of that's experiencing this issue to submit a bug report as well.
Please be sure to include both DxDiag.txt and a logserver file of this issue in the bug report. ____________________________ I break things.

OK, a couple of months and a lended laptop later on the time line, the issue seems to be identified and solved by the DEVs. The solution to it is announced by one of the GMs handling the connected petitions to get seeded with the next patch.
So far, so good.
BUT: the very same GMs are still denying the right of the afflicted characters to ask for compensation on the matter.
I know the EULA and reimbursement policy, which does not cover the issue we ran into here. So all I can ask for, is: CCP - make an exception for this one or extend the policy to reasonable non-server-side problems!
In the end, it all breaks down to CCP being an adult game developer, which handles reasonable problems of it's customers in a caring and understanding way.
It would be nice to get some general answers here from some CCP staff, who are not bound to odd EULA and policy terms, like the GMs working on the petitions seem to be.
