Say you fit two damage mods of any type. How exactly does the penalty apply?
Does the first module fitted get the full bonus, and the second, the penalty?
Or are they added together and then penalized? |

Yes I believe thats the case the 2nd module takes the % penalty hit and then should you apply a 3rd mod that takes an even greater % penalty hit.
eg: 1st mod 100% bonus 2nd mod (25%penatly) so you get 75% bonus of mod stat 3rd mod (50% penalty) so you get 50% bonus of mod stat
so in effect its 225% of 300% bonus u get
^ thats just a made up example of % stats for how it penalises you when using more than 1 mod

I think the formula is more complicated, but goes something along these lines, assuming a module giving +10% bonus:
First module is normal effect (x1.1) Second module is halved effective (x1.05) Third module is a quarter effective (x1.025) Fourth module is an eigth effective (x1.0125)
Kinda. Like I say I think the forumla is a lot more complicated, but the end result is something like that. I haven't tried that many because quite simply put I think its incredibly sad. Hey, it works for some, but personally I think people miss out on a lot of other potentially useful modules and configurations doing this. You are also hard hitting but normally extremely susseptible to target jamming leaving you almost no defense either, as you are configured for all offense.
All your eggs in one basket kinda thing.

Does the stacking penalty apply to the Module Type or does it apply to the Module name? Just curious if 4 different mods would invoke the same penalty as for mods of the same name. Also how does it calculate which mod gets 100% and which get the other penalties. Does it go by slot number?

Nope, the stacking penalty only applies to modules of the same class when it comes to damage mods.
i.e 1 projectile dmg mod + 1 hybrid dmg mod would give their full bonus to their respective gun types.

Ok, so the important part is the order in which the modules are fitted.
I wonder if bringing them online in space in a different order makes a difference. |

I don't think the order in which they are fitted makes any difference.

I think the stacking works like this...
(mod_1*mod_2*...*mod_n)^((1/n)^0.25)
examples: 2 EM hardeners: (0.5*0.5)^((1/2)^0.25) = 0.31169 (0.25 without penalty) 1-0.31169 = 0.6883= 68.83% resistance.
3 tech 2 damage mods: (1.1*1.1*1.1)^((1/3)^0.25)= 1.24x damage mod. ( 1.33 without penalty) (0.895*0.895*0.895)^((1/3)^0.25)= 0.776x ROF mod. (0.717 without penalty)
