we all remember the homeworld missile destroyer, it was tough and it was hell on corvettes and under (speaking of which eve could use some more AF loving).
Now imagine T2 assault destroyer, hardened armor or shield, lots of missile mount , with bonuses to missile range and speed.
The idea of course is that it can stay in sniping range( for small ships that is - at least 50-80 km) and use missiles. Due to the increased speed of the missile themselves they can actually reach that range.
It can defend itself through range, speed, and by killing drones and missiles that attack it. Oh and of course tanking.
it's not a nano ship, actually it's a response to the nano ships(including interceptors) it's missiles fly fast enough to catch up with anything but the fastest ones out there.
example: light missile is 3500 m/s speed and flight time of 5 seconds. double that...and you get 7000 m/s x 10 sec. Now add bonuses from skills and you get a missile that can hit pretty much any contemporary nano ship.
Of course my numbers might be a bit too powerful...but certain twinking and adjusting might give folks a very nice small ship to play with :)

Explosion velocity is more of a limiting factor than missile velocity.

I fully support his idea - Even BS's have more T2 versions than destroyers, and this sounds like a fun idea - Gallente need a good missile boat ======

It will be deployed VS ships that are unreachable due to their high speed or ranged setups.
Since the salvo is 7 or 8 light missiles with high velocity and I guess explosion velocity :)(thx man)it will have a pretty nice punch vs a single ship but the 50% slower ROF will make it's overall DPS the same as say a kessie with normal rof and 4 launchers.
However it's longer reach will allow it to stay within the protection of the gang while taking out the small ships that pester the gang :).

lol. I was thinking the same thing. (although I was thinking a caracal)
A Caracal would be a pretty good comparison to a Tech 2 Destroyer class missile boat.
Fit 5x light missile racks, you get the benefit of the cruisers range and also bonus to kinetic missile damage. Price wise, a Caracal would be similar to a T2 Destroyer.
Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of diversification. But the practicality of it is that it probably wouldn't get considered for implementation because of the Caracal.
The other thing is, the Amarrians would probably whinge that they have to train Missile launcher operation skills, and how unbalanced the game is for them.

Not even close, Caracals are cheaper than dirt, and the anti-frig setup for them (Assault launchers, MWD, Ballistic Controls, Target painter, etc) is peanuts as well. Add in the fact that it takes obout forty-five minutes to train for one, and there's no need for some fancy-pants destroyer variant.
Besides, T1 destroyers can already be juiced up to slap fast frigs around, and if you're feeling good about it, the Flycatcher or Heretic can chuck some missiles.
